This is universal, nobody is happy with their jobs, corporate, IT, Business etc 99% of people are not happy because it's not the job or the field that makes you happy, it's your perspective towards life in general that does it.
But at least there you can change your job, where will you change your job in IAS. It will be always like following orders of politicians whether they are good or bad. You don't live your own life, if politicians want you to provide a monstrous solution, you will even have to take that to save your job

Otherwise once if u don't enter in any career field, and keep researching careers, about temperament, personality, passion, time will fly, age will be passing and u will be sitting on bed analysing others. May it be any career options ( IIT, IIM, Reasearch Scientist, Politics, AIIMS doctor, IAS officers etc.), people once get in and evolve with situations. Nobody knows everything from birth. No government service nowadays including IAS don't justify the efforts one has to put on it....

1. You can't implement your own idea,
2. always under influence of big politician.
3. Have to tolerate the taunts of some minister. (Ex Raghuwar das, Himanta B Sarma)
4. The system question you on your competency even after doing good job (ex: Ashok khemka)
Dear folks who think themselves smarter then others, just have some experience in abroad, gether wealth, build connection, ....then come back and start your business....
Government services never change the society.
And smart people don't do jobs, especially government jobs.
It might be true at some level ,,but the point is many of the aspirants belong to the tier 2 ,tier 3 city and lower middle class family so they don't have enough network or so called connection to reach abroad ,,so they choose government services and mainly upsc because if you want to give back to society from upsc you can be able to touch the grass root level of India and at least give them basic amenities to them
