  • Ever wondered what a tunnel boring machine looks like up close and how it works? T2D's Senior Engineering Manager Frances McNulty walks us through the model TBM, currently stationed at the Community Information Centre in Hilton.
Tunnel Boring Machines are very large and complex pieces of machinery. The TBMs we will use to construct the T2D tunnels will be around 100m in length and 15m in diameter.
Plan a visit to our Community Information Centre and learn more about TBMs and the T2D Project.
Opening hours: 10am to 3pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 9am to 1pm every first Saturday of the month.

I know I'm only dreaming, but when the South Road tunnels are done, I'd love to see one of these dig a tunnel for freight trains from just south of Mitcham, all the way through to Callington. (Sigh... a man can dream)🤔😁

And once they're done with digging a rail tunnel through the hills, they should then use it to create one from the bottom of the south eastern freeway, to link up with the north/south corridor so you can seamlessly transition between the two without any lights. Then a tunnel to finally get some rail between the Adelaide Airport and Adelaide Station.
Perhaps after all that they could even make the Adelaide Station a through station and finally get trains to the eastern suburbs. Maybe by the end of the century Adelaide might finally have a sensible transport system.

@@EngiocGames Cool Ideas. With the Airport though, I'd run the underground railway straight up the center of Adelaide, with a station under the Central Market or Victoria square. Then I'd split the track with a lime out east, and a loop around to the current station, and one at Rundle Mall, near Pultney Street.😁

I was actually researching about this project. I was impressed with how ambitious it is, but then I looked at what the other states are doing. Compared to QLD, NSW, and VIC, our project is like digging a little hole in comparison haha
