Enough about 5-Stars, who's your favorite 4-Star? EDIT: This video was about CBT2 of WuWa. Most of the issues I have in this video (Calcharo Intro, Lingyang voice, worse-feeling movesets, etc.) were later announced to be getting fixed. This is why we must criticise what we love 👍
There isn't much appeal or incentive to get 5* gameplay-wise at the moment. They have a problem with balancing values across characters and all 5* have some sort or caveat or jank for some reason. Not to mention a lot of their really good functions are paywalled behind Sequences (dupes). Calcharo's cool cinematic extra attack is locked behind S2 for example. As it stands I would rather just use high sequence 4 stars to get the job done.
Basically they should take notes from PGR, who gives enough love to their A ranks(or in this case 4 stars) but still make the S ranks feel like S ranks. Take Crimson Weave for example
All standard S rank in PGR were mid. Lee got push in the trash the day Alpha came out, Liv S was less interesting than her B rank version for physical team, Nanami S was almost useless without Karenina S that was good only to cover the fire stages. The only good one was Camui but again mostly because he was the only dark char available. If Alpha was available day 1 in PGR, no one would care about the other S rank except to cover a different element stage/boss
@@prisciliaflora actually I don't agree, especially when talking about the new gen S ranks. We have Karenina Scire, Lee Hyperreal, Bianca Stigmata, Alpha Crimson weave, and the Nanamech who I think you're talking about, etc and from their designs to their interactions, they are truly deserving of the title of S ranks. And in the future global will see the likes of Noctis, Hanying and Teddy who while are A ranks are still really visually appealing and generally cool characters. Hence my point.

By Lee they meant Entropy by Alpha they meant Crimson Abyss (who made Entropy useless) by Karenina they meant Ember (Fire Attacker) and by Nanami they meant Pulse (old Fire Tank). They're not saying recent S ranks are mid, they're saying the S ranks that came out with release are mid, and they're right. All of them are just not that unique or useful. Liv needed to be leaped to be good and the rest were just begging to be power crept.

And in my opinion they look way better than any standard chars from other games (except Verina maybe but she's a healer anyway)
Agreed. I also really hope that they don't do the genshin thing and confine characters to certain regions for the main story, but instead have a few older characters tag along with Rover if appropriate. I would honestly think it's better to see the chemistry between newer and older characters outside of events, especially if they happen to be ones that people miss. Not to mention, it can probably spice things up more in the main story, like PGR's space watanabe, for example.
no that just gets stale playing pgr and seeing the same 5 characters with the same exact colors is really awful and the story isnt any better than games that dont do this
@@AKA87807no they don't, Pgr has one of the best story telling of all time lol, you definitely never even put effort playing pgr, hell i can guarantee you didn't even read the whole chapter 13. Many versions of the character are literal development of that character, The story dedicated only to that character, Every Character in pgr have a chance to Shine. I can guarantee most player would love a Small roster, but every single Character are fleshed out, polished, rather than Huge roster, but every single one of them get wasted every new patch came in.
They were trying to make it like PGR where certain aspects of a char's kit is locked behind dupes and sig. Now it's tolerable if you can get one dupe from something like PPC in PGR, but that's not the case in WW. I'm sure they were pushing the playerbase to see how much monetization we would tolerate. Everyone treats kuro like they're saints but they're a gacha developer after all. Better than most for sure, but that's a low bar to clear. By drawing players' attention to such a major issue, everyone seems to forget that the gacha is basically genshin's, but less trash. The most significant upgrade is the weapon banner but F2Ps usually don't have enough to pull for weapons so that benefits mainly spenders.
@@WadeWontson can't you buy dupes of characters from the wish shop though with enough of the material that you get whenever you do pulls? least that's what i heard. so while yeah it would be a grind you could guarentee get the standard units to those dupe levels, similar to star rail with the standard light cones. but its still lame that they locked the animations behind it.

If there's any consolation, it's that the English voice actors haven't been revealed yet so they're still subject to change. I think they're all pretty good with the exception of Lingyang, and even then it's not so much that his voice actor is bad, but rather the casting and voice direction doesn't fit which isn't the voice actor's fault. Feedback like this is probably a big reason they haven't recorded any of the story in English for this test. I will hold out hope for Lingyang fans 🙏
It's a gacha, not surprising really. You can expect a lot of paywalls everywhere in gachas. That being said, they did make it a part of his default kit now so that's good news. And buying dupes sucks, it will likely take an F2P at least half a year to save enough for one dupe, and it's only a dupe - you cannot buy it and get the character, you must already have the character to use the dupe.
I'm going for male rover on my main account and female rover on my no-pull alt account. I like female rover's design more but I always take the male protagonist out of principle.
I'm conflicted. I definitely see your point but I'm not sure it's a bad thing. The only characters I was interested in at the launch of Genshin for example were 4*s. Fischl, Beidou, and Ningguang who to date are still some of the few characters in the game that have an entirely usable kit and I'd rather play them than any of the launch 5*s even today. They were enabled obviously by the gods who were also other 4*s. I'm more interested in Kakarot than I ever was in any of the standard 5* or initial S ranks in PGR. The first two characters I HAD to have in PGR were Alpha and Veritas. Luminance, Entropy, Ember, Pulse, and Tenebrion were all just OK. I actually installed the game for Ayla. She was the first character I loved her playstyle and her design. Unusually strong girl with huge weapon gets me every time. TL;DR - the reason I think it's a win in these games is because the launch roster needs to be there but not oppressive. I'm imagining having Balter, Crimson Weave, and Lamia as launch 5*s and my wallet is sweating just thinking about it. And not being able to select them, I'd feel like I was "behind" right at the start of the game, which I'm just not sure is great. I still have a hard time recommending PGR to my friends right now because it feels like they would start NEEDING at least 3 limited characters. So, it kinda seems like a win to make the characters people will want the most at launch the most accessible (4*s). So, everyone at the beginning feels up to speed without so much pressure to spend. My spending in Genshin at launch went to c6'ing the 4*s and I pretty much ignored the 5*s.
I also think there's a good reason to have the STANDARD 5*s have an incentive to get dupes. Because of the 50/50. If I get a Kakarot, it's an L technically, because I was pulling on a limited banner. It's less of an "L" to get dupes if those dupes make that character more awesome. Unlike the 9 Qiqi's I got. So, I can see the value only in the case of the standard 5*s to make it rewarding to get dupes lessening the disappointment of losing 50/50s. Still I'd rather the 50/50 just went away. And the standard characters become farmable like the amplifiers in PGR. The amplifiers become much MUCH better at SSS and people still spend on their banners because why not. However, since they can be farmed and are worth it, it's completely a convenience to spend, which feels better imo.
Lastly, I'm wondering if the simpler characters are to avoid the effort of massive bug testing for the open world. We all have PGR gen 2 characters in our heads, but, I imagine it would take an incredible amount of testing for such complex characters not to break various mechanics in open world exploration and combat. Once the game is more stable, surely, we'll see the 5*s matching and surpassing gen 2, but first they got to make the game work. Just all the reasons I think, while you're right about the assessment, it might not be as bad as it seems for the launch of the game to be this way.

couldn't agree more. At launch I think it's important for people to really not feel like they're behind from the get-go. It makes a lot of sense for the 4 and 5 stars to be more equally balanced. Genshin is a good example, Bennet, Xingqui and Xiangling are staple characters to this day and when the game launched I never felt behind people despite not really having any 5 stars for a long time. Personally I don't think I'd still be playing Genshin now if I'd felt compelled to spend a tonne of money in the beginning to get a 5 star because the 4 stars were nothing. Now I do actually pay money into the game, and I don't think I'm alone in that... Genshin became the biggest gacha game and broke the barrier for gacha in the west for a reason imo, and having a great launch with a tonne of free stuff to offer was a big big incentive.
@@BulletSponge71436Most new gen 5 star char. in PGR are all broken anyways, most of new gen has alot of gimmick especially about i-frame that can make them spam attack compared to old 5 stars that relies mostly on dodge to avoid getting f****, but theirs a reason why the new bosses also kinda invalidate those new gimmicks like having counter,faster etc while if you use the new gen on old bosses you're simply bullying them cause of how slow they are and no counter what not.

But i think sometimes its harder to get certain 4* than 5*, since a specific 4* isn't guaranteed, but theyre given randomly. If you have bad luck, you get all the other 4* on the banner, except the one you want🥲 i saw someone use over 100 pulls to get kaveh, but didnt get him💀
As F2P, not at all. Personally, it's really disappointing. A big thing about being F2P is the gratification you get when you pull a 5* and see the good damage they do. Getting my first limited 5* in Genshin (Alhaitham) after completing all the content in game with 4* and seeing the damage he did was the most elating feeling ever.
I think Kuro took a page out of Genshin. In Genshin, some of the 1.0 4 stars have been meta for the past few years - Bennett, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Sucrose. By having very powerful 4 stars from the get-go, Genshin was able to allow F2P players to enjoy the game and compete in the meta. Meanwhile, whales could swipe for the cool new 5 stars who made gameplay easier. If the 1.0 4 stars in Wuthering Waves are also strong (but require some more skill to beat end-game), that will allow more F2P players to continue playing the game.
Part of the conflict is that being a more team-focused game, those 4* are supports or off-fielders in Genshin. All the DPS from that very early era have been surpassed. With Wuwa's bigger focus on giving characters field time, it's not great that the characters with most impact are your MC and a 4*. But I suspect the standard 5* have been made intentionally underwhelming at S0 to try entice whales to pull for extra copies. I just hope future 5* don't end up feeling too underwhelming, but Kuro seem to have that balance between fun A ranks and better S ranks working in PGR so I'm not too worried.
Don't worry, even in G game, many 5-star characters still look like 4-star characters. It's not just about design. But the gameplay too Almost every ult and skills is just a circle area.

1:10 To be fair, as long as you get lucky & pull him once, all the standard 5 star units have at least two purchusable copies for dupes in the shop that seem to always be there, so getting the last two dupes for him is easier than you'd think if someone wanted to full send Calcharo, lol. You just gotta be patient for a bit as you grind the currency overtime. Me personally though? I'm only using them shop dupes for limited units. Haha.
@@zamirroa 5 star dupes in the shop cost 270 rainbow coral each. 4 stars give 3 rainbow coral per pull: When you summon 90 4 stars you will have enough for one 5 star dupe puchase in the shop. 5 stars give 15 rainbow coral per pull: When you get 15 5 stars you will have enough for one 5 star dupe purchase in the shop. & when you lose a 50/50 on the limited banners you will get an additional 30 rainbow coral on top of the usual 15 you'd get from the 5 star summon. Basically it's a type of consolation for losing the 50/50. So you get 45 rainbow coral total for losing a 50/50. So that means if you lose 6 50/50's, you will have enough to buy one 5 star dupe from the shop. So all in all, it's very a generous shop system & very well done imo.

For the entire beta I used Yangyang, Rover, and Baizhi. Yangyang was my favorite character going into this and I never had a reason to use anyone else. As for the Rover being strong, that makes sense if they are supposed to be the hero of this story. The mc in genshin running around saving the world while in gameplay being a joke always felt weird.
We as a community should always be transparent to the game and always gives out constructive criticism, AND not just straight-up doomposting like in Reddit 👀
honestly I think this is amazing, that 4 star characters feels this good when the game releases, ik this is a gacha but having 4 star characters being this good in the start and the 5 stars not being made so op that u want to spend all your savings on it, is only positive for me personally
For encore specifically, back in the tech test she had a mechanic where after each basic attack, she would have an indicator which if timed correctly, the next basic attack would deal more damage, and it applied to all her basic attacks. If they were to bring it back, I would hope it would apply to ultimate and resonance skill as well maybe.
Its better to put their main weapon to have a secret intro skill animation, and create a coatings for every character in WW that would be change the game.
Combat: They just the do same attacks with diff animation in practice. its either basic af attack u can parry or u have to tap to dodge out of the way and wait... or just use taoqi and parry everything regardless It´s hilarious how uncreative they got with wuwa bosses considering u do have access to wall running, jumping as well as the grapple and a few other gadgets. but all u end up doing is standing still waiting to parry or occasionally dodge out of ur 1 spot that ur standing still in. The combat (before i used Danjin) it is just stand still as taoqi and auto parry it gg. Not like it matters, the rewards from doing hologram are bad anyways. Atifacts/echoes I guesssed it was gonna to be similar to pgr where the memories are farmable and with not rng stats... but i know that was not going to happen Echoes..... are in 2pc + 5pc set bonuses. You cannot equip dupes for its effects. they got 2 rng primary stats that are a % based stat and a flat main stat and then seperately afterwards u gotta manually add rng substats to them later. Its just a way way worse version of genshin artifacts basically. The game's version of artifacts are just god awful!. each peice has 2 pc and 5 pc bonus and each one also has 2 main stats , up to 5 substats... Wha were they just thinking?! You have to grind material to get sub stats independantly too. The worst part is the thing that's needed to level up to even farm echoes of higher rarity is a completely seperate progression system, that's just god awful to raise up. The range of stats and rng even worse too and same peice can be at diff rarity, so its gonna be a very very painful grind. Oh and if it makes it sound worse, u have to manually grind mobs for an upto 20% chance to maybe get something For casuals they will quit once they learn about echoes man. they won't make it anywhere near Rexlent did, because the main gimmick of the game is too hardcore for casuals. its basically like what people did during wow legion in maw of souls mythic + but worse
There is no better explanation than saying "They're going from the G game route", in this case as well. They're going for more of a grounded character kit design, with less flashy stuff. Yinlin is the only exception here But yeah I hate this, they should be more flashy. Maybe not at the level of PGR, but it should be flashier
i hope this video doesn't backfire. They might take this feedback and start producing bad 4*s in the future so that the 5 stars can feel more premium. At the moment i actually love the 4 stars in this game and don't want that to change. Otherwise it'll be genshin all over again ugh. Please be very careful when you release such content and think about future implications. You might be dropping the hammer on your own foot (and ours) with this video. And yes, Kuro DOES listen to feedback religiously and we don't know how they'll interpret this
If they try to fix an underwhelming part of the game by downgrading the rest instead of just trying to make it better, the fault is 100% on them and their mediocre practices. Somehow trying to pin that on creators that cover the game and rightfully point out shortcomings its pure stupidity lol. They arent dropping a hammer on anyone's foot by discussing it and pretending otherwise is just a poor attempt at shifting responsability from the people that actually have it.
I like the idea that a 4* can be as cool to play as a 5* I do agree that they should add more mechanic to the 5* to make them at least as interesting to play as some 4* But other than that, I like it that way
To be fair those are regular 5-stars similar to how first gen s-ranks in pgr perform, yeah they mathematically more efficient than an a-rank but mechanically they are very similar. This is good if the game is fairly young and I'm betting my first 50/50 that after a year or 2 we would have such different characters that we would be considering them similar in pgr where we seperate them by generation.

I can see the developers watching this video and reacting like "Okay, we'll nerf every 4* character, as well as the starter 5* character. That should solve the problem".
Lets hope that Kuro doesn't do that. I would rather them go the Genshin route of having great four stars and only okay five stars since it would allow me to save for a year more easily.
Verina is literally the most busted 5* due to her buff/heal mechanic. CBT Testers are literally aiming to re-roll for her on launch just because of her value in every team comp. But yeah her animation sets are boring. I agree with the other points in this vid.
I got Encore, Jianxin, and Verina in my time playing. My team I play is Rover/Taoqi, YangYang, and Sanhua. They are so fun to play. It does make it easier to not want to reroll
1:40 Well we don't know his age, for all you know he could be 12 or something. As for why he is so muscular (which i don't think it's even that bad) he is a trained martial artist and carries a furry on his shoulders for half the time, of course he is going to be more muscular than the average 12 year old
They need to add more survivability to 5stars such as Calcharo and Jiyan, they hit hard, but they are hard to dodge when they are in ult state, Calcharo especially. That gimmick that Danjin has, that if you do series perfect dodge and other attack you get ever-increasing damage, should be added to broadsword 5stars, so that the dodge does not take away from their DPS. I'm not sure about Jiyan's ult, but Calcharo loses damage when he dodges amid his ult. Dodge and parry are a big part of all characters' kit in this game, unlike genshin where dodge is always dps loss, so they need to design future characters without overlooking them.
You can get 5 star and 4 star dupes not only by summoning on the banner ,but there a store page in game that let u get buy them using a currency only gainable by summoning.
To me, it feels like they regressed to the early PGR days where the 5 stars (S ranks) feel okay but not that remarkable specially when compared to Gen 2 units in terms of gameplay and aesthetic design. Point being, I dont want to wait for "Gen 2" units in WW when I know they already have the blueprint in PGR and can implement it early in WW. As Lina have suggested, enhacing their Visual Effects design and adding more depth in the current 5 star roster is the first step and will go a long way in attracting more players and the promoting the longevity of the game. Overall. I hope someone from Kuro watches this vid as I feel like not many from the community hold this opinion.
Tbh I love everything about the game so the 5S don’t really matter cus they are still something special in my eyes other than YinLin she’s jus built different

I agree, I only care about YinLin and the 4 stars so far. My favorite 4 star is Baizhi. She Gorgeous and I find her sexier than anyone in Genshin. Shes sexy and classy and we get her for free.
That's good, i kinda want to save up and not just spent all the gacha coin like i do genshin, and because some 4 star sheathed their katana like sword, that alone already satisfied me, now waiting for samurai dps characters and hoping its wouldn't be disappointing likee ayato Cause the gam3 is high pace i dont jeed to wory about the character having slow normal attack animation (i honestly can't belive how slow ayato normal attack was)
I don't like 5 stars having a significant power increase honestly. I DO like when they're given extra love in innovative design or innovative gameplay change. Sure they should be stonger, but I don't see the need for them to be 40%+ stronger than a 4-star in that archtype. I DO agree that if the 5-star feels WEAKER than the 4-star its very sad.

The designs are really not making me want to play idk why its like tof situation all over again but i hope they make them look better. (I might be biased cus hsr's designs are too good 😭)
What I can say, based on my experience with Genshin, HSR, ToF, and other gacha games, is that the 5-star characters released with the game are usually much weaker and simpler than those introduced in subsequent banners. Moreover, the most recent characters tend to feel significantly better overall compared to the early ones. So, I think it’s somewhat intentional that players feel a need to pull for the latest character. That’s my opinion, but of course, they’re not all bad; the developers do learn from each character they release with every patch and try to improve the next ones
Yep it is a common sell strategy. You release something new and people will buy it anyway. Then you release something new one but better and people are forced to spend money again.
I think they gonna gradually ramp up the gameplay for 5* as time goes on cuz they need more experience in open world combat and to ensure players want to pull for new characters
i think it's as if they spend a lot more time designing and redesigning the four stars then the 5 stars... still cant believe i won't have a kakarot anymore, i miss you akira toriyama... 😢
I hope they go right about this tho. I dont want them nerfing the 4 star characters to make ppl wanna get 5 stars. And I love that the game is giving so much love to characters making them unique and feel good and focusing on skill. I really hope they go about this right and find ways to fund the game. One source of money genshin is missing on i think is skins. I got so many skins in arknights and i never question buying them. I hope WW capitalises on skins as well as make their 5 stars better and not go nerfing everything to the ground and ruining the game
I agree to a certain extent! However, it shows that just because the characters are T4 doesn't mean they have to be bad like certain games from other companies. Standard banner characters already follow a line throughout the game. And the limited banners are more of a personal taste! whether you like it or not!
Some CC's support the 50/50 in WuWa since they feel like Kuro needs to make money. I do hope that the 50/50 gets erased for WuWa's character banner and I hope the weapon banner gets buffed by needing less wishes much like in PGR.
I feel like this is what make Genshin 5 stars more memorable, they have a gimmick or that one signature move like Raiden Shogun pulling blade from her chest or Zhongli pillar Kakarot ult should be spawning his shadow to fight with him, Verina ult is make enemies float in the air and Encore ult is maybe turn her doll into a giant and control it for short period of time Kuro did a great job with Jiyan dragon and Yinlin sexy ult pose
I mean she has vines. It would be better if her ult is a damage over time + heal over time. Basically every few milliseconds vines sprawl from the ground and pierce the enemy then heal us. Or even just summon a big flower bed that heals your character. The current ult is just meh.
1:00 that's his ultimate animation.You have to use his ult twice to trigger that.Calcharo and Yinlin is actually really strong, Jianxin is ok but other 5 star fells not that good. That i agree.
Why do I get the feeling that when Wuthering Waves' release finally comes to pass, Rover and many 4 star characters are gonna suddenly find themselves feeling a lot more weaker
Not to mention that when the full release comes in, there will be more 5 Stars coming in the future releases. And possibly more 4 stars to not only powercreep them but also would outshine the 5 stars in terms of design...and chest si- *ahem! you get my point 👀😅
Tbh I’m not surprising when Starter characters are actually feels fun and useful. I mean Just look at PGR. I’m still use Lucia: Lotus till this day. Because her playstyle is basic and fun.
They should at least put a 5-star selector in the standard banner to encourage you to pull there if you want a specific one, even if you lose the 50/50 you are guaranteed to get it in the next one, otherwise there's no reason to pull there :'b
I think the first 5-star characters should be compared to PGR's first S-ranks. Are the animations and power levels the best? No. But they are a starting point in just giving people a taste. And strong, diverse 4-stars allow more accessibility to starting players to enjoy the gameplay expectations that will drive future choices in character design.
I want to main Taoqi but it seems like Danjin is by far the best character in the game and the only character that I really should main. There isn't much appeal or incentive to get 5* gameplay-wise at the moment.
They have a problem with balancing values across characters and all 5* have some sort or caveat or jank for some reason.
Not to mention a lot of their really good functions are paywalled behind Sequences (dupes). Calcharo's cool cinematic extra attack is locked behind S2 for example. As it stands I would rather just use high sequence 4 stars to get the job done.

Basically they should take notes from PGR, who gives enough love to their A ranks(or in this case 4 stars) but still make the S ranks feel like S ranks. Take Crimson Weave for example
All standard S rank in PGR were mid. Lee got push in the trash the day Alpha came out, Liv S was less interesting than her B rank version for physical team, Nanami S was almost useless without Karenina S that was good only to cover the fire stages. The only good one was Camui but again mostly because he was the only dark char available.
If Alpha was available day 1 in PGR, no one would care about the other S rank except to cover a different element stage/boss

We have Karenina Scire, Lee Hyperreal, Bianca Stigmata, Alpha Crimson weave, and the Nanamech who I think you're talking about, etc and from their designs to their interactions, they are truly deserving of the title of S ranks. And in the future global will see the likes of Noctis, Hanying and Teddy who while are A ranks are still really visually appealing and generally cool characters.

Agreed. I also really hope that they don't do the genshin thing and confine characters to certain regions for the main story, but instead have a few older characters tag along with Rover if appropriate. I would honestly think it's better to see the chemistry between newer and older characters outside of events, especially if they happen to be ones that people miss. Not to mention, it can probably spice things up more in the main story, like PGR's space watanabe, for example.

They were trying to make it like PGR where certain aspects of a char's kit is locked behind dupes and sig. Now it's tolerable if you can get one dupe from something like PPC in PGR, but that's not the case in WW. I'm sure they were pushing the playerbase to see how much monetization we would tolerate. Everyone treats kuro like they're saints but they're a gacha developer after all. Better than most for sure, but that's a low bar to clear. By drawing players' attention to such a major issue, everyone seems to forget that the gacha is basically genshin's, but less trash. The most significant upgrade is the weapon banner but F2Ps usually don't have enough to pull for weapons so that benefits mainly spenders.
@@WadeWontson can't you buy dupes of characters from the wish shop though with enough of the material that you get whenever you do pulls? least that's what i heard. so while yeah it would be a grind you could guarentee get the standard units to those dupe levels, similar to star rail with the standard light cones. but its still lame that they locked the animations behind it.

If there's any consolation, it's that the English voice actors haven't been revealed yet so they're still subject to change. I think they're all pretty good with the exception of Lingyang, and even then it's not so much that his voice actor is bad, but rather the casting and voice direction doesn't fit which isn't the voice actor's fault. Feedback like this is probably a big reason they haven't recorded any of the story in English for this test.
I will hold out hope for Lingyang fans 🙏

It's a gacha, not surprising really. You can expect a lot of paywalls everywhere in gachas. That being said, they did make it a part of his default kit now so that's good news. And buying dupes sucks, it will likely take an F2P at least half a year to save enough for one dupe, and it's only a dupe - you cannot buy it and get the character, you must already have the character to use the dupe.

The only characters I was interested in at the launch of Genshin for example were 4*s. Fischl, Beidou, and Ningguang who to date are still some of the few characters in the game that have an entirely usable kit and I'd rather play them than any of the launch 5*s even today. They were enabled obviously by the gods who were also other 4*s.
I'm more interested in Kakarot than I ever was in any of the standard 5* or initial S ranks in PGR. The first two characters I HAD to have in PGR were Alpha and Veritas. Luminance, Entropy, Ember, Pulse, and Tenebrion were all just OK. I actually installed the game for Ayla. She was the first character I loved her playstyle and her design. Unusually strong girl with huge weapon gets me every time.
TL;DR - the reason I think it's a win in these games is because the launch roster needs to be there but not oppressive. I'm imagining having Balter, Crimson Weave, and Lamia as launch 5*s and my wallet is sweating just thinking about it. And not being able to select them, I'd feel like I was "behind" right at the start of the game, which I'm just not sure is great. I still have a hard time recommending PGR to my friends right now because it feels like they would start NEEDING at least 3 limited characters.
So, it kinda seems like a win to make the characters people will want the most at launch the most accessible (4*s). So, everyone at the beginning feels up to speed without so much pressure to spend. My spending in Genshin at launch went to c6'ing the 4*s and I pretty much ignored the 5*s.

I also think there's a good reason to have the STANDARD 5*s have an incentive to get dupes. Because of the 50/50. If I get a Kakarot, it's an L technically, because I was pulling on a limited banner. It's less of an "L" to get dupes if those dupes make that character more awesome. Unlike the 9 Qiqi's I got. So, I can see the value only in the case of the standard 5*s to make it rewarding to get dupes lessening the disappointment of losing 50/50s.
Still I'd rather the 50/50 just went away. And the standard characters become farmable like the amplifiers in PGR. The amplifiers become much MUCH better at SSS and people still spend on their banners because why not. However, since they can be farmed and are worth it, it's completely a convenience to spend, which feels better imo.
Lastly, I'm wondering if the simpler characters are to avoid the effort of massive bug testing for the open world. We all have PGR gen 2 characters in our heads, but, I imagine it would take an incredible amount of testing for such complex characters not to break various mechanics in open world exploration and combat. Once the game is more stable, surely, we'll see the 5*s matching and surpassing gen 2, but first they got to make the game work.
Just all the reasons I think, while you're right about the assessment, it might not be as bad as it seems for the launch of the game to be this way.

couldn't agree more. At launch I think it's important for people to really not feel like they're behind from the get-go. It makes a lot of sense for the 4 and 5 stars to be more equally balanced. Genshin is a good example, Bennet, Xingqui and Xiangling are staple characters to this day and when the game launched I never felt behind people despite not really having any 5 stars for a long time. Personally I don't think I'd still be playing Genshin now if I'd felt compelled to spend a tonne of money in the beginning to get a 5 star because the 4 stars were nothing. Now I do actually pay money into the game, and I don't think I'm alone in that... Genshin became the biggest gacha game and broke the barrier for gacha in the west for a reason imo, and having a great launch with a tonne of free stuff to offer was a big big incentive.

@@BulletSponge71436Most new gen 5 star char. in PGR are all broken anyways, most of new gen has alot of gimmick especially about i-frame that can make them spam attack compared to old 5 stars that relies mostly on dodge to avoid getting f****, but theirs a reason why the new bosses also kinda invalidate those new gimmicks like having counter,faster etc while if you use the new gen on old bosses you're simply bullying them cause of how slow they are and no counter what not.

As F2P, not at all. Personally, it's really disappointing. A big thing about being F2P is the gratification you get when you pull a 5* and see the good damage they do. Getting my first limited 5* in Genshin (Alhaitham) after completing all the content in game with 4* and seeing the damage he did was the most elating feeling ever.
RIP your dreams, Danjin is being nerfed while some of the weaker 5* will be getting buffed. Not surprised really.
I think Kuro took a page out of Genshin. In Genshin, some of the 1.0 4 stars have been meta for the past few years - Bennett, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Sucrose. By having very powerful 4 stars from the get-go, Genshin was able to allow F2P players to enjoy the game and compete in the meta. Meanwhile, whales could swipe for the cool new 5 stars who made gameplay easier. If the 1.0 4 stars in Wuthering Waves are also strong (but require some more skill to beat end-game), that will allow more F2P players to continue playing the game.
Part of the conflict is that being a more team-focused game, those 4* are supports or off-fielders in Genshin. All the DPS from that very early era have been surpassed. With Wuwa's bigger focus on giving characters field time, it's not great that the characters with most impact are your MC and a 4*. But I suspect the standard 5* have been made intentionally underwhelming at S0 to try entice whales to pull for extra copies. I just hope future 5* don't end up feeling too underwhelming, but Kuro seem to have that balance between fun A ranks and better S ranks working in PGR so I'm not too worried.

& when you lose a 50/50 on the limited banners you will get an additional 30 rainbow coral on top of the usual 15 you'd get from the 5 star summon. Basically it's a type of consolation for losing the 50/50. So you get 45 rainbow coral total for losing a 50/50. So that means if you lose 6 50/50's, you will have enough to buy one 5 star dupe from the shop. So all in all, it's very a generous shop system & very well done imo.

For the entire beta I used Yangyang, Rover, and Baizhi. Yangyang was my favorite character going into this and I never had a reason to use anyone else. As for the Rover being strong, that makes sense if they are supposed to be the hero of this story. The mc in genshin running around saving the world while in gameplay being a joke always felt weird.

For encore specifically, back in the tech test she had a mechanic where after each basic attack, she would have an indicator which if timed correctly, the next basic attack would deal more damage, and it applied to all her basic attacks. If they were to bring it back, I would hope it would apply to ultimate and resonance skill as well maybe.
Maybe the 5 stars are easier to use but the 4 stars mechanics ended up being too intresting?

Its better to put their main weapon to have a secret intro skill animation, and create a coatings for every character in WW that would be change the game.
Combat:
They just the do same attacks with diff animation in practice. its either basic af attack u can parry or u have to tap to dodge out of the way and wait... or just use taoqi and parry everything regardless
It´s hilarious how uncreative they got with wuwa bosses considering u do have access to wall running, jumping as well as the grapple and a few other gadgets. but all u end up doing is standing still waiting to parry or occasionally dodge out of ur 1 spot that ur standing still in.
The combat (before i used Danjin) it is just stand still as taoqi and auto parry it gg. Not like it matters, the rewards from doing hologram are bad anyways.
Atifacts/echoes
I guesssed it was gonna to be similar to pgr where the memories are farmable and with not rng stats... but i know that was not going to happen
Echoes..... are in 2pc + 5pc set bonuses. You cannot equip dupes for its effects. they got 2 rng primary stats that are a % based stat and a flat main stat and then seperately afterwards u gotta manually add rng substats to them later. Its just a way way worse version of genshin artifacts basically.
The game's version of artifacts are just god awful!. each peice has 2 pc and 5 pc bonus and each one also has 2 main stats , up to 5 substats... Wha were they just thinking?!
You have to grind material to get sub stats independantly too. The worst part is the thing that's needed to level up to even farm echoes of higher rarity is a completely seperate progression system, that's just god awful to raise up. The range of stats and rng even worse too and same peice can be at diff rarity, so its gonna be a very very painful grind. Oh and if it makes it sound worse, u have to manually grind mobs for an upto 20% chance to maybe get something
For casuals they will quit once they learn about echoes man. they won't make it anywhere near Rexlent did, because the main gimmick of the game is too hardcore for casuals. its basically like what people did during wow legion in maw of souls mythic + but worse
Well they unlocked that Calcharo's 2nd dupe ability for no dupe version so that's cool

There is no better explanation than saying "They're going from the G game route", in this case as well.
They're going for more of a grounded character kit design, with less flashy stuff. Yinlin is the only exception here

To be fair those are regular 5-stars similar to how first gen s-ranks in pgr perform, yeah they mathematically more efficient than an a-rank but mechanically they are very similar. This is good if the game is fairly young and I'm betting my first 50/50 that after a year or 2 we would have such different characters that we would be considering them similar in pgr where we seperate them by generation.

I got Encore, Jianxin, and Verina in my time playing. My team I play is Rover/Taoqi, YangYang, and Sanhua. They are so fun to play. It does make it easier to not want to reroll

As for why he is so muscular (which i don't think it's even that bad) he is a trained martial artist and carries a furry on his shoulders for half the time, of course he is going to be more muscular than the average 12 year old
They need to add more survivability to 5stars such as Calcharo and Jiyan, they hit hard, but they are hard to dodge when they are in ult state, Calcharo especially. That gimmick that Danjin has, that if you do series perfect dodge and other attack you get ever-increasing damage, should be added to broadsword 5stars, so that the dodge does not take away from their DPS. I'm not sure about Jiyan's ult, but Calcharo loses damage when he dodges amid his ult.
Dodge and parry are a big part of all characters' kit in this game, unlike genshin where dodge is always dps loss, so they need to design future characters without overlooking them.

To me, it feels like they regressed to the early PGR days where the 5 stars (S ranks) feel okay but not that remarkable specially when compared to Gen 2 units in terms of gameplay and aesthetic design. Point being, I dont want to wait for "Gen 2" units in WW when I know they already have the blueprint in PGR and can implement it early in WW.
As Lina have suggested, enhacing their Visual Effects design and adding more depth in the current 5 star roster is the first step and will go a long way in attracting more players and the promoting the longevity of the game.
Overall. I hope someone from Kuro watches this vid as I feel like not many from the community hold this opinion.

Tbh I love everything about the game so the 5S don’t really matter cus they are still something special in my eyes other than YinLin she’s jus built different

I agree, I only care about YinLin and the 4 stars so far. My favorite 4 star is Baizhi. She Gorgeous and I find her sexier than anyone in Genshin. Shes sexy and classy and we get her for free.
That's good, i kinda want to save up and not just spent all the gacha coin like i do genshin, and because some 4 star sheathed their katana like sword, that alone already satisfied me, now waiting for samurai dps characters and hoping its wouldn't be disappointing likee ayato
Cause the gam3 is high pace i dont jeed to wory about the character having slow normal attack animation (i honestly can't belive how slow ayato normal attack was)

I don't like 5 stars having a significant power increase honestly. I DO like when they're given extra love in innovative design or innovative gameplay change. Sure they should be stonger, but I don't see the need for them to be 40%+ stronger than a 4-star in that archtype.
I DO agree that if the 5-star feels WEAKER than the 4-star its very sad.
I will stick to the A-Rank like I did on PGR when I was a beginner.

@@david_ace I never ment limited 5 star. Aalto's gameplay and character design are objectively better than Verina. Taoqi is slow asf. I said almost, not all. And Danjin is a hidden 6 star lol
@@WanshiLucidDreamer i dont agree about the fact that aalto have better gameplay than verina, her slide is just too satisfying in cbt1 i saw a clip when the player almost spammed it that was just too cool and dynamic but on the other hand aalto just shoot at distance and create some effect with his wall and clone i dont see much difference between him and mortefi tbh

What I can say, based on my experience with Genshin, HSR, ToF, and other gacha games, is that the 5-star characters released with the game are usually much weaker and simpler than those introduced in subsequent banners. Moreover, the most recent characters tend to feel significantly better overall compared to the early ones. So, I think it’s somewhat intentional that players feel a need to pull for the latest character. That’s my opinion, but of course, they’re not all bad; the developers do learn from each character they release with every patch and try to improve the next ones

You release something new and people will buy it anyway. Then you release something new one but better and people are forced to spend money again.
I think they gonna gradually ramp up the gameplay for 5* as time goes on cuz they need more experience in open world combat and to ensure players want to pull for new characters
i think it's as if they spend a lot more time designing and redesigning the four stars then the 5 stars... still cant believe i won't have a kakarot anymore, i miss you akira toriyama... 😢
I hope they go right about this tho. I dont want them nerfing the 4 star characters to make ppl wanna get 5 stars. And I love that the game is giving so much love to characters making them unique and feel good and focusing on skill. I really hope they go about this right and find ways to fund the game. One source of money genshin is missing on i think is skins. I got so many skins in arknights and i never question buying them. I hope WW capitalises on skins as well as make their 5 stars better and not go nerfing everything to the ground and ruining the game
I agree to a certain extent! However, it shows that just because the characters are T4 doesn't mean they have to be bad like certain games from other companies. Standard banner characters already follow a line throughout the game. And the limited banners are more of a personal taste! whether you like it or not!
All the characters seem boring to me, but I'm still going to try this game out to see what it has to offer

Some CC's support the 50/50 in WuWa since they feel like Kuro needs to make money. I do hope that the 50/50 gets erased for WuWa's character banner and I hope the weapon banner gets buffed by needing less wishes much like in PGR.

I feel like this is what make Genshin 5 stars more memorable, they have a gimmick or that one signature move like Raiden Shogun pulling blade from her chest or Zhongli pillar
Kakarot ult should be spawning his shadow to fight with him, Verina ult is make enemies float in the air and Encore ult is maybe turn her doll into a giant and control it for short period of time

I mean she has vines. It would be better if her ult is a damage over time + heal over time. Basically every few milliseconds vines sprawl from the ground and pierce the enemy then heal us.
Or even just summon a big flower bed that heals your character. The current ult is just meh.

Why do I get the feeling that when Wuthering Waves' release finally comes to pass, Rover and many 4 star characters are gonna suddenly find themselves feeling a lot more weaker

Tbh I’m not surprising when Starter characters are actually feels fun and useful. I mean Just look at PGR. I’m still use Lucia: Lotus till this day. Because her playstyle is basic and fun.
Lotus's Core Passive feels so satisfying even now ♥
Gacha games are a waiting game. Standard banner 5* are rarely a good investment and you end up with all them on the bench before you realize anyway.
i feel like WW just want to be more f2p friendly
They should at least put a 5-star selector in the standard banner to encourage you to pull there if you want a specific one, even if you lose the 50/50 you are guaranteed to get it in the next one, otherwise there's no reason to pull there :'b

I think the first 5-star characters should be compared to PGR's first S-ranks. Are the animations and power levels the best? No. But they are a starting point in just giving people a taste. And strong, diverse 4-stars allow more accessibility to starting players to enjoy the gameplay expectations that will drive future choices in character design.
NGL when I first saw them way back, I thought Aalto, Mortefi, and Yuanwu were 5-stars while Encore and Verina were 4-stars
I want to main Taoqi but it seems like Danjin is by far the best character in the game and the only character that I really should main. We'll have to see when the game finally releases which is going to be soon so I hope that they treat five stars well and buff every character especially Danjin who needs to be buffed due to her risky playstyle.
