While I like all of your content and I understand that you need to balance algorithmic demands and other considerations, Your book reviews have a special place in my heart ♥️
Starter villain I enjoyed because it's just ridiculous and hilarious to think about. I liked it up until the ending, which to me felt like a cop out. It literally went from a 4 star read to a 3 just because of the ending. I could see where Daniel is coming from the flow wasn't the best, but I enjoyed it for the laughs.
The audio for DCC brings so much more to the characters. I usually hate audiobooks, but this series is better with the audio when it’s already a damn good series. Donut and the Game AI make me laugh every time they talk
I really love this type of video to get an overview of the books you read without going into it to deep. Keep up the amazing work and hope your wrist feels better soon😊
Book 5 of DCC has one of the best donut moments of the series and it happens off page. Carl and the reader are left just stressing about whats happening while you get no info. I was walking my dog as I was listening to it and screamed out loud. God i love that series.
That sequence was outstanding. Donut in book 5 also has the most impactful and emotional confrontation of the series to date imo. Jeff Hayes was struggling to get through the recording on the livestream when he was doing the reading
Ken Liu is great. Reading Death’s End, which he translated, and looking forward to checking out his own work soon. Also finally finished Mistborn Era 2 and loved it. Thanks, Daniel! Will have to check out Dungeon Crawler Carl too.
I want to thank you Daniel for putting Dungeon Crawler Carl on my radar. My first time hearing about it was also that community cover award, and after your review I decided to check out the audiobook. I also am now in the middle of book 4! I usually try to alternate between fiction and nonfiction books (eating my peas and carrots I call it), but I've just been going straight through the series without stopping. Turns out if you want to write a book that's "just a lot of fun," what you actually need to do is nail your story construction and fundamentals. Fun has to be earned. These books are great! Genuinely funny too.
See, I really enjoy scalzi’s work. (Interdepency trilogy especially) and can’t wait to go back again and re-read kaiju preservation society and starter villain while I am enjoying dungeon crawler Carl, it’s going to be a one time read.
Fully agree that DCC has some of the best audio narration out there. Also, if you like the earlier books wait until you hit book 5 - best in the series thus far IMO. I’m really surprised I love the series so much as I’m not a fan of LitTPG as a genre but DCC is just standout regardless of genre. I’m glad audible wouldn’t stop recommending it to me and that I took a chance on it. It’s now one of my all time favourites.
Im pretty excited to hear your thoughts on Priory of an Orange Tree when youre able to get into it. I tried reading it twice and just could never get hooked by it. I got about a third of the way through before I DNF'd, and it was the only book last year that I couldnt finish, but so many people seem to enjoy it im wondering what, if anything, i missed that resulted in my aversion to it. Also, if you keep giving Dungeon Crawler Carl such high praise, im GOING to have to read it x)
You are not alone, friend. I swear I only saw glowing reviews until after I DNF’ed. I couldn’t believe people liked it, it was just so boring and honestly such a waste of a good idea for a world, I wish I could read someone else write the same story.
Something cool you may not know about DCC. Matt occasionally has polls on his patreon where the patreons can vote. Sometimes these polls are for the l Fan Boxes Carl and Donut get in the series. So the real life fans are literally participating as the fans in the story. I’d like to also say that these polls have HUGE impacts in the story. It’s not like Matt gives a couple options and the story doesn’t change much. In book 5 the entire plot changed because of our loot voting in the patreon
Get a rubber band from the Brocolli heads at your grocery store, put your fingers inside of the hoop and stretch outward until your wrist gets tired. Exstenser training saved my wrist after I had a bad break, 100% recommended
I want to try The priory of the orange tree again. I dnf only 100 pages in but I think that is because I was in the wrong mindset when trying to read it the first time. When I got it I was reading the Expanse so it was quite jarring to switch between those two.
Yessssssss I’m so happy to hear you’re loving the DCC audios. I was so skeptical of lit rpg in general but DCC and Hays really won me over, and books 4-6 were really some special reads for me. Not perfect, but special all the same.
I'm loving Dungeon Crawler Carl! I started the series as a way to break up the Cradle series...and that was a fun experience..2 Cradle books 1 DCC book. It really feels like elevated Lit-RPG...while at the same time...we've got hilarious banter between a cat and a possessed sex-doll head...
Between you and Merphy hyping up The Grace of Kings I think I need to pick it up. This month I read The Outsider by Stephen King (which I started in February), The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang, and I just started Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy.
Absolutely adored Grace of Kings. The sequels are considered even better by the fans of the series, but I didn’t enjoy them as much. They are written in a much more traditional novel style but the “fantasy world empire founding myth” style of the first book is what I loved so much.
I haven't read dungeon crawler carl yet, but I really hope it hits similarly to he who fights with monsters - I absolutely love that series (heath miller is *chefs kiss* as a narrator)
If you’re enjoying DCC, check out Beware of Chicken. It’s a cultivation world slow life on a farm and is ridiculously easy to consume. Plus it’s narrated by the great Travis Baldree.
I don't know what it is, but there is something about Priority of the Orange Tree that makes a lot of people have a hard time finishing it, even when they are enjoying it. It's just so common.
Bryce O'Connor's Storm Weaver series is one of my favorite because for the most part people actually communicate with each other. One of my biggest pet peeves for lack of a better term is people who lie to their loved ones or refuse to communicate when things aren't driving well and just allow bad feelings to fester. Having a book where people actually talk to each other and work through their problems is a breath of fresh air. My wife and I communicate about absolutely everything and if something gets on our nerves we actually talk about it rather than just letting negative emotions build and fester.
What? It's a bullshit teenage drama romance masquerading as a serious military novel. The way they talk, the useless filler where nothing really happens and Viv dating the bully who beat up her only best friend she grew up with. NOTHING turned her on more than seeing Rei get beaten. Also, the author forgot about other science fiction stuff that usually comes with sci-fi. Like a child not wanting to eat their veggies 😂😂😂.
im so sad that i cant buy dungeon crawler carl in switzerland.... ( amazon doesnt deliver to all parts of the country, and bookshops wont order it). i even tried to email the writer to ask how i can buy the book.

How do you find the time? Reading, writing, YouTubing, editing...holy cow. I find myself struggling with time management. I've got too many projects I want to accomplish. Focusing on a few things is best, but it's very hard to do.
I've got a huge problem with books like The Grace of King's. As a reader who has ADHD if a book takes to long to drag me in and grab my attention it tends to sit at the same page as I keep bouncing around mentally doing, learning other things and they then strangle my reading as I'm one of those people who can only be reading one book at a time, I've had to learn to restrict myself like that otherwise I can be trying to read 4 or 5 books at a time and not really progressing or getting the full impact of any of them. So I've had to learn and be strict about the one book at a time rule and when a book that takes too long to get my imagination going full out I basically stop reading for a while as I don't want to give up on the book but as I'm not 100% in it I don't want to read it either. I have to research the books I'm going to read carefully and/or read authors who I've already fallen for. That's one big reason I love this channel and the couple of others like it I follow.

Honestly, with dungeon crawler carl, I will say book 3 made not listening to the audiobooks tempting. I think critical drinker's guest appearance was so grating i had to take a break every other minute of his character being in a scene. Note: this only applies to book 3 Jeff hayes and any other guest speaker has been great so far.
Yeah, that really wasn't good.I wonder if it would even work for people who actually enjoy critical drinker's content, it was just incredibly jarring and unnatural.
@ejensen I'd doubt it. As someone who used to watch that kind of content back when I was worse, the appeal I'd more a mouthpiece "saying what everyone is thinking" and dunking on an arbitrary bad product vs the creator themselves. Plus, the critical drinker voice he normally uses is way less cartoonish than whatever he tried for dcc.
I know you probably get a metric shit ton of Manga recommendations but I'll still throw mine out there, you should check out Jojo's bizarre adventure, it can get really weird but in a fun way, also it knows when to let emotions carry, also I think you'd love Joseph from part 2
Hey @DanielGreeneReviews could you shout out brian lee durfee on your channel? He is going through some intense medical issues right now and attention drawn to his excellent five warrior angel series may help cover his medical expenses! You are awesome!

So happy he switched to the audiobook for DCC. It's almost unmatched.

The Wall of Storms will absolutely blow your mind 🔥 get ready
DCC is an instant favorite, and the narration performance is exquisite. Book 5 will be a banger, I can't wait for your reaction!
I am also in book 4 of Dungeon Crawler Carl and really enjoying it.

Jeff hays is tied for number 1 in my top narrators right next to Steven pacey performance of the first law

You should make a vibeo to tell us what your favourite books of all time is🐐
Hey Daniel, could you please talk about what Brian Lee Durfee is going through right now?
Thanks! Love your channel!
"a throbbing thank you" 😂😂
The books love me
Your copy of Grace of Kings is beautiful. Where can someone get a copy with the painted edges?
I totally agree with the Dark Tower graphic novels, Jae Lee has a very "90s urban" style that is better suited for superhero style comics; someone like Martin Simmonds (The Department of Truth) or Sana Takeda (Monstress) would be a better fit. I beg thee, my king, for any information on your journey reading Vinland Saga. I fear the worst, but I must know nonetheless.
What is Reading Wrap Up music 4K?
Ron Weasley wants his robe back sir.
Hey Daniel have you ever read an indie series called Songs of Chaos - dragon rider trope? I've heard it's pretty good
Boston?! You just never stay still, do ya, buddy? Never let ‘em know your next move 😉💜 gorgeous city, and some amazing history, if you’re into that sort of thing. 💜
DCC was the reason why I joined Patreon because I didn't want to wait for the next book...
read wandering inn please

So let's see..
DCC
Carl's Doomsday Scenario
The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook (Choo choo! You're on a train!)
The Gate of Feral Gods
Just an FYI: the background in this video kept trying to get in focus so it would bounce around a little from you to the background. A little distracting, but I still enjoyed your video.
Jeff Hayes is a god tier narrator.
Ngl thumbnail made me read it twice. Looked like Panty Reading Month
Not to be pushy but with the show out, are you interested in reviewing the rest of Rememberance of Earths Past? (AKA 3 body problem)
Quick unrelated question:
I'm about to reread Wheel of Time for the first time in decades, and I feel like taking notes.
However, I'm not used to taking notes for fiction.
How would you go about taking notes for this series?
You feel like the right person to ask this.
Does anybody know where the Malazan dust jackets, in the background, are from?
They are custom made by Daniels girlfriend :)
Will you ever read Baki the grapeler
God Dammit Doughnut!!
i think the issue with your auto focus was that the ai had latched onto your hands, rather than your face?
IDK if you noticed the issue at the time, but maybe start the cam, sit down, put your hands out of frame and sit there for a 3 count to let it acquire you, then start your spiel?

He was going for Patrick Warburton (Voice actor of Kronk) for carls voice.

I actually loved Starter Villain and Wil’s performance! And I’m really digging Carl book 6 right now.
You think you care about Carl and Donut now... just wait until book 5 of Dungeon Crawler Carl...
Best book so far.
i miss the manga videos
Hey @DanielGreeneReviews could you shout out brian lee durfee on your channel? He is going through some intense medical issues right now and attention drawn to his excellent five warrior angel series may help cover his medical expenses!
You are awesome!
You know Fire and Song is a sportsbook, it's the only thing the main character cares about, so why do you want him to go to war?
