I'm so happy to see you so happy and excited over a new to you vehicle again! I really felt like I was hanging out with you while you were just messing around, although I think I'd be a bit motion sick in that with zero suspension lol. Can't wait to see more! Oh and yes, I cried again seeing the pretty landscape. I swear I fall more in love with your state every time I see it ☺️ Thanks again Chris ❤️

When I bought my 06 in 08 with approx. 30k miles from New Country Lexus in Latham NY. A few weeks later all my dash lights came on. I research it and leeds me to evap canister. I tightened all the fuel vapor hose clamps and man it's gone all the lights. I concluded that after factory assembled these veh, after a few heat and cold climates makes all the fuel hoses and fuel vapor lines shrunken. So a little tightening up does the magic. Lol

Having an lx470 and gx470, I echo what you say about the LC suspension. The AHC feels amazing and the GX feels kind of crappy, stock. Not being able to lift the front is annoying, as well. I also found the GX considerably more nimble than the LC, but you cant go wrong with each. The LC/LX has a far better build feel, but the GX is fun for the money.

I got a black 06 GX a few months ago - looks just like yours. Has 178k and runs solid. I’m coming from German cars (VW and BMW) and would have never imagined buying a rig with such high mileage, but these have such a great reputation. Mine had the timing belt, radiator, and alternator done within the last 7k so that’s a relief. It’s a great surf mobile 😎🤙🏽🏄‍♀️

We have a 2008 that we got in March 2020. We put over 30000 miles on it in about a year and a half. Yes! 30,000 miles. If you reset those codes even briefly you’ll get your A- trac and will make a big difference off-road. The truck came with a 2 inch lift and sits on stock wheels in stock highway tires. Amazing what these things will do in stock form. I removed the side steps and I have an RCI skid plate so somebody else remove the old stock skid plate!

Your lights/CEL/codes could be associated with either; Oxygen sensors, Cats, or as simple as a gas cap(Leak)..... Hopefully you have searched and purchased a "Techstream/TIS" Software for your GX. Which is simply what the Dealership uses to scan anything and everything wrong with Toyota/Scion/Lexus from the late 90s, to NOW... Cheap insurance if you own these rigs...
You can find the software with or without the OBDII cable anywhere from Amazon to eBay...

I have an identical (but beat to f*ck) black on tan 09 with almost 230k on it that I picked up off someone’s baby mamma via a Dealership’s trade-in straight to auction trash pile. She never serviced it, let her little kids use it as a playpen, and then after she put it through a (apparently very well built) fence in a blizzard ..continued to limp it around until the front tires were bald.
I traded an 01 3rd gen 4Runner with a bad T-case and $500 for it, so we’ll say I payed roughly $4k for the GX. It’s ailments included those bald front tires (but worryingly for the center diff/T-case had full tread at the rear), a leaking rear bag, half a front bumper and grille, the dash was lit up with CEL/TRAC warning lights, it had a bent tie rod and was 110k miles overdue for a timing belt. Oh and it smelled like sour milk and it’s blower motor was filled with Cheerios. Friends thought I was nuts for buying it.
That was a year and a half and 20k miles ago and it’s turning out to be the most reliable and cheap to run 4x4 I’ve had. A gas cap fixed the warning lights, a $50 air spring off of Amazon fixed the rear suspension, a tie rod and $12 worth of sway bar bushings cured the front and I had $650 worth of 4 basic all-terrains fitted and had the belt and water pump done for $850 which brought it back to being mechanically mint. My plan had been to then fix the body work and flip it but once I got rid of the child dander/Cheerio bullshit (kids are f***ing gross) I literally fell in love with the GX. It spends most of its time on fire trails and camping, or plowing through snow, yet nothing else has broken, it’s never gotten stuck and yeah it still looks like trash but I love it.
Given the abuse mines shrugged off while still running better at 230k than most Benz/BMW/AUDI SUV’s do at 60k, I think GX’s are worth their weight in gold.

Explain the VSC light and when is should and shouldn’t be on. No A-trac could really get you stuck looks like to me.

    • @j_freed

Both the GX470 and the FJ Cruiser have a shorter wheelbase than the 4Runner which is handy for not getting stuck on rocks and rises.
