    Great insight vid, would definitely be on the look out for some of those thing if I'm looking at the 10th gen F150. Can't even see a speck of rust on the paint! You can only dream of that living in the midwest! Also the reason why I'm not completely omitting the 13th gen F150, just sucks they ask a lot of money for those trucks.

    I bought my 2001 xl long bed single cab with 4.6L with 280,000 miles. Was not too worried because it was a fleet vehicle. It now has over 352,000 miles. Only large thing changed it the transmission. Best tuck I have ever owned.

    A safety item you should check is the cable that holds the spare tire up. They tend to break and drop the spare. My cable broke and the spare tire fell off somewhere when I was on the road and I surely hope it didn't cause an accident with any vehicles that may have been behind me. The NHTSA tried to get Ford to recall the trucks and fix this item but they said if you didn't tighten the cable too much it wouldn't break. The replacement cable has a spring on the end which reduces the stress on the cable. Check yours to see if it has this spring on the end. If not, you should replace it with the replacement designed cable with spring.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Год назад +2

      Excellent comment, thank you. I've thought about this from time to time wondering if these cables every brake or fail. I will definitely put this on the list. Keep your ideas coming!

    Thank you for taking the time to make these videos they have answered some questions I've had, I've got an 03 almost identical to yours, white, 4x4, Flareside and it has the optional aluminum wheels, it has a 148,000 miles and I use it for my work, never had any major issues just minor stuff like the typical leaking back window, brake master cylinder, done a few upgrades and thanks to you I'm going to install a full length console in it here shortly, you don't see many extended cab flareside's around but they are great trucks, Ford kind of screwed the 5.4 up when they went to the 3 valve as those engines had a fair amount of problems, I would love to see a video on your 10th Gen Harley Davidson model, once again thanks for your no nonsense content.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the great comment! I hate to admit I'm frustrated with Ford over their 5.4 3v, what a piece of junk. The 2v is great and can be modestly upgraded for better power and fuel economy as I show in my videos. I'm planning on doing a video featuring my HD F150. I might move that up in the queue since you asked. ;) That is my absolute favorite vehicle ever owned. Fighting with a P0455 code that continues to evade me but drives good. I agree - bucks ahead of getting a new one.(and there are even more sensors to go bad in those).

    • @sut2910
      @sut2910 3 года назад

      @@DrivingIntelligence It came up after I had put a few hundred miles on it. I put on new gas cap, replaced some rotten short hoses at a couple spots. Cleared code. Code came back, replaced purge valve on brake booster, and canister vent valve. Code came back. Not much left (2 vents on tank, and pressure sensor, some other hoses). I had replaced fuel pump and filler hose and filler vent hose when I replaced engine. Not sure my smoke machine can work on that system, lot of void to fill and would need zero wind day.

    I have a '97 F-150 4X4. Don't know if my truck is the exception, but the truck wants to wander going down the road. I've replaced every friggin' part of the frontend including the steering gear. It's been to several frontend alignment shops, but the issue persists. If you move the steering wheel either way just a little and take the slack out of it, all at once it'll start heading that way hard. If you're going down the road at highway speed feels like the tires are swimming on ice. If you have this issue, I'd like to know so I won't believe I'm the only one with it.

I’ve got a 1999 with a 4.2 L V6 and a straight transmission and both engine and transmission are in good condition. I had to go get a 2005 because on the 1999 I needed to replace the instrument cluster and I could not get the preowned cluster off of eBay to pair with the PCM of this truck. Apparently this is an issue with the 10th gens. I’m probably going to take the old instrument cluster, get it fixed and then sell it.
