Qualcomm _does_ have SoC design expertise but in general they, like Samsung, use standard ARM designed CPU cores. This is the biggest reason not to seriously invest in ARM Win - there is no guaranteed future going forward. Really there are only two ARM processor design houses: ARM and Apple. Apple was one of ARM's founding investors, way back when ARM grew from a tiny British Acorn. Apple and ARM have enjoyed a long relationship, and it's rumored that ARM designed AArch64 (ARMv8) at Apple's request, a completely new ISA from ARMv7 which contained condition code instruction components which left ARMv7 unoptimizable and unable to sustain long and deep out-of-order instruction pipelines.
That deal is set to expire soon between those two companies apple said that m1 macs are capable of running windows but it’s up to Microsoft support them
It dosnt worry Microsoft attall. They have 80% of the PC market across all processor types. Apple have a tiny percentage. The ARM side of things is Apples great lie. However, my kid needs to use Microsoft Team and OneNote due to school, and he occasionally have issues with Mac specific version. I am thinking about getting a M1 Max Pro MacBook Pro for him, but I am also thinking about just grabbing a PC Laptop. You are obviously more knowledgeable in M1 Macs. I watch some of your videos, they were presented in a very informative way. I am surprised to see M1 Macs running Windows games so well, but I just need to know, if you run it along with those PC apps using Parallels, are there drawbacks? In addition, based on the screen you have presented, when running Parallels, which requires the user to preset CPU cores and RAM. How much performance degradation when switching back to running Mac apps, and if I don't use Parallels, will my RAM and CPU be reset back to maximum?? Sorry for the long paragraph, appreciate if you can add me a line. Thank you
Parallels is pretty solid I think, however I haven’t tested Teams or OneNote. Both those apps have solid browser versions, I would just run them from Chrome on macOS. I sure hope Boot Camp will come back. It's really the best way to run Windows because it would be full native support. I bought the Intel iMac 2020 because I am a Windows gamer and will stick with it until there is a native option for M processors for Windows.
In order for boot camp to work on a 'M' series SoC, Microsoft would need to support Apple SoCs directly - something I _don’t_ see Microsoft doing. This would be a tremendous undertaking requiring drivers for just about _everything_ (and this for a _very limited_ Mac audience). Not only that, but there’s that whole TPM 2.0 thing ... Methinks the best you can hope for is the continued ability to run an ARM Win virtual machine.
@@vernearase3044, with Intel's newest chip running faster than the M1, most people aren't going to buy a more expensive machine and slower machine to run Windows. @@TimothyFish That's a _very_ subjective call. I always preferred macOS because of much fewer maintenance headaches. Old(er), 2020 MacBook Pros still have the advantage of performance and efficiency, and have the advantage of retaining performance off the wall plug. I'm not buying a current gen of Mac Studio, but when it comes time to replace my speced out 2020 iMac 5K, I suspect it will be replaced by a Mac Studio. Hopefully by then Apple will have added hardware ray tracing to their GPUs, and I expect process shrink and the Apple Silicon Team's annual performance cadence will have overcome x86's ability to boost clocks and still keep the chip viable. x86's fatal flaw is that they can't probe deeply into the execution queue due to x86's variable instruction length. Firestorm high performance cores can probe 690 instructions into the execution queue looking for opportunities to reorder instruction execution and run up to eight instructions _simultaneously._
@@vernearase3044, no, I don't agree. I've seen multiple cases where software that has been developed in parallel for the Mac and for Windows was run on the same hardware and the software performed better on Windows than it did on Mac. Some software appears to be developed in parallel but the developers seem to have trouble getting it to work with Mac, resulting in a loss of features. NDI 5, for example, has a ton more capability on Windows than on Mac. x32-Edit, great on Windows, but constantly loses connection with the mixer on Mac. So, no, I don't agree that it is subjective.
@@TimothyFish I have no idea what NDI or x32-Edit are - obviously niche products who probably don't have many folks in-house who know anything about the Mac. IOW, they managed to port the code (or get someone to port it for them), but probably didn't know how to optimize it the way they did probably for at least a decade under Windows. Apple has done something no one's done since IBM in their mainframe days - done a complete stack from silicon up through all the way through the OS, and done it for form factors and energy envelopes from a watch up through one of the most powerful desktop consumer computers available, and while IBM did the full stack they never ran in such a diversity of devices. Especially for niche software, you have to consider how many developers each company has dedicated to each platform, and I'm sure you'll find the number dedicated to Windows and the Mac for each of the products to be wildly disproportionate, and the number of developers they send to developer's conferences to take advantage of the latest hardware and software for each platform will also be wildly different.
Random question: do you know anything about the legacy feature DirectPlay? It can be enabled and installed within Parallels, but it doesn’t seem to actually work. There are some old games and mods that work great on regular x86 hardware with DirectPlay enabled. I’ve also had no issues in Paralles running on an Intel Mac. So maybe it is an ARM issue? Any thoughts?
Hey Andrew! Thanks for all your work with windows/gaming on mac. I tried running Win11 on parallels 18 but I can't use a standard windows keyboard with it. The windows and L.Alt keys seem to be reversed. How can I fix this? Help much appreciated. Thanks!
I got PD 18 for my M1 chip 16GB macbook. I am wondering how everyone use this app? I have the major apps like Chrome, Adobe reader, word on my both my Mac and PD windows. I feel it is kind of wasted but I am not so used to coherance model.
I only use windows for certain critical programs not supported by iOS. Otherwise I use what I can on windows. Parallels is a good alternative but has issues. For example Google drive can't be installed but luckily can on ios. Not sure why it won't run on windows through parallels. Won't even install. So I hope people don't think this is the perfect solution because it's not.
I got a free product key and was able to activate my Parallels VM. And here in Italy, where I live, you can find product keys at extremely low prices, even under €5, completely legally.
Parallel for mac does not support a genuine product licence on windows 11. Parallels is using fake product key licences it seems. Windows will detect it if its genuine or not. You can use Windows still but customising it is limited.
Really, you shouldn't have to buy a key if you bought Parallels. Parallels gives the impression you get the full windows software you don't. Unless you buy a license key which can be costly. Very misleading.
I have the Product Key of Windows 8 Pro de-activated from Windows 10 Pro and now transferred again to Windows 11 Pro IP. But even so, I can’t run another VM because Parallels Desktop 17.1 doesn’t support Nested hypervisor and WSL can’t install Ubuntu. Fusion neither.
You could request a refund. Did you? I bought an XPS laptop and I upgraded to the Pro version. I ended up returning the laptop and then reached out to Windows and explained what happened. They refunded me.
Could someone tell me when Microsoft is going to release the ARM version of windows so bootcamp on M1 Macs can be done? The deal is expiring though so I hope not too long.
bro i am sorry to inform you but... its the end of the road its been 2 years since bootcamp died and i dont see microsoft spending billions to bring it back, all in all...its the end of the road...

Basically, you are advocating using Windows without paying the developers. Even if you are right about the legal issues (which I don't think you are) what you are advocating is immoral.
If they start with code compiled for ARM, then a lot of the commands are just pass through, while a few may require some tweaking. If they start with code compiled for something else, then all of the commands have to be interpreted, requiring more time to run.
Since when is VMware Fusion compatible with M1 Macs? That's part of their FAQ: "With exception, the following Macs are not supported: Macs based on Apple Silicon CPUs"

thats true. but activating it without an officially purchased key IS illegal. finding other keys to activate without an officially purchased license is indeed illegal.
I bought an activation key for $9. Works fine so far
I am always interested in Parallels, and I haven't used Windows for decades.
If the Microsoft environment is necessary for your son then there’s a very good argument for buying a simple laptop which will be a fraction of the price of the MacBook (plus considering Parallels costs $90 per year extra).
@@Andytizer Greatly appreciated your prompt reply. I have used Macs since PowerPC, but I struggle to keep up with everything. Its great to see someone like you, who seriously goes through real testing procedures for Mac users to see. Two thumbs up for your detailed videos. Thank you.
@@KingKong-he9hk I use an M1 Pro MacBook Pro for my university work and Parallels runs all the applications I need for engineering (Intel Quartus Prime, Siemens ModelSim, various IDEs, etc) without issues. My friend also runs Parallels on his M1 MacBook Air without issues. I often forget Parallels is even running in the background because of how well optimized it is, you certainly don't need the highest configuration to run it well. That being said, you are running a preview version of Windows so you may run into occasional issues with that and should backup regularly.
I think it is a bad idea if you think it is gonna run games properly.

When installing Win 11 on a Mac m1 max
Some programs are not supported such as Adobe Illustrator
Is there any solution?
If Apple had managed to stay on top for more than a couple of months, then I could see people wanting to buy the M1 for speed but running Windows because it is the better operating system.
Please make a video on Revit
Ms Windows Is not cheap at india it still cost near 200$ for Pro From Ms store or a physical key cost 160-240 (based on store)
I activated my vm with a windows vista home product key i found on a pc in my basement. Somehow it worked.
So the windows install within VM will not like expire or something after 14 days??
This wasn’t clear. If I purchase a key, what features will be missing? Will I still have the watermark?
If you purchase a key all features will be present, if you dont some features like wall paper changing and the watermark removal is not present.
It should work just depends on the game. You might benefit from using dgvoodoo to wrap the game. Also bear in mind 16-but games won’t work on ARM.
will my Mac get hang if I use virtual machine?
Hey Andrew! Thanks for all your work with windows/gaming on mac. I tried running Win11 on parallels 18 but I can't use a standard windows keyboard with it. The windows and L.Alt keys seem to be reversed. How can I fix this? Help much appreciated. Thanks!
Buy logitech keyboard that has dual mode like the MX keys Advance Wireless
Can I use the Parallels forever? Or will I have to make that $100 purchase to use it long term?
Is it possible to use OEM Keys? Please advise. Thanks
Is it fact that MSMQ can't be activated on WIN ARM Machines?
Windows asking to ACTIVATE WINDOWS via watermark when this is just an Evaluation copy of an unfinished product feels really close to a scam to me.
The only difference with parallels is literally just hardware accelerated graphics. That is why the others feel slow. It has nothing to do with CPU
if the windows are activated can it use advanced integrate on IDM? Thanks
i tried so grey market keys and they all doesnt work the seller are saying it only works normal intel versions
I got a free product key and was able to activate my Parallels VM. And here in Italy, where I live, you can find product keys at extremely low prices, even under €5, completely legally.
In che modo??
@@giusepper.5796 Parallels è da pagare però Windows poi si trova a €5
Always handy videos mate, thank you 👍🏻
My key didn’t work and a company I contacted them and they gave me a different one, they were legends
do you know how can ı make it my m1 macbook downloadin nintendo switch emulator, i want to play letsgo eevee or pikachu?
So can i install football manager and fm genie scout on macbook this way?
I own a win10 key so I used it, I look forward to MS knocking on my door asking me to uninstall it from my Mac 😂
Windows Server 2022 also it's a great option, I used with my MBP
Do Microsoft activation scripts not work in Parallels? I know they work in VirtualBox on Intel chips
Parallel for mac does not support a genuine product licence on windows 11. Parallels is using fake product key licences it seems. Windows will detect it if its genuine or not. You can use Windows still but customising it is limited.
Really? I ve the same problem But i bought a key activation of win11
Really, you shouldn't have to buy a key if you bought Parallels. Parallels gives the impression you get the full windows software you don't. Unless you buy a license key which can be costly. Very misleading.
Lol they are obviously using a temporary licence.
You can do exactly the same downloading Windows without a product key.
You can just activate with hwidgen permanantly
I never bought windows I stole a key on my dad's laptop now it's linked to my account lmao
That’s because the M1 chips only have 2 levels of hyper visor the host is and the virtual os.
You could request a refund. Did you? I bought an XPS laptop and I upgraded to the Pro version. I ended up returning the laptop and then reached out to Windows and explained what happened. They refunded me.
Why did you return it?
any updates on bootcamp for m1, I need it :((
Note Parallels costs 99$/year!
Is it possible to activate it on Lumia 950 XL?
Could someone tell me when Microsoft is going to release the ARM version of windows so bootcamp on M1 Macs can be done? The deal is expiring though so I hope not too long.
bro i am sorry to inform you but... its the end of the road
its been 2 years since bootcamp died and i dont see microsoft spending billions to bring it back, all in all...its the end of the road...
@@White_lister that’s so sad cuz i think M1 would go crazy if they optimize it for windows. btw thanks man.

thanks a lot
Get AWS Workspace if you need windows.
Interesting but I get annoyed by the use of command: “watch this video til the end” These type of behaviour is done by scammers when they say: press this button, do this. It’s already common sense that people will watch it no need for these persuasion tactics
“You should be restarting regularly anyway” 😆
I have never paid for Windows and yet I’ve been able to constantly upgrade from Windows 7 to 11 for free. 🤷♀️
This is total rubbish. As other posters have mentioned, your copy is legal you just won’t get support
Running Windows 11 ARM on non-Qualcomm hardware is against the Microsoft EULA.
Good thing I bought a Windows 11 key for *4$* , I think that's cheap for just using Parallel Desktop..
I would say, decide to go completely legal with a discounted or old version, or completely illegal with the 1€ or script. I think there should also be maybe 30-50€? "Volumenlizenzen" at the Market. But don't pay 10 for a shit key. It's not an official "indian" key ;)
Window for ARM could not support some of printer
upgrading to windows 11 will slow the performance is like having windows xp than upgrading to vista with whole lots of add ons
Meanwhile me who downlaoded windows 7, activatde it then downloaded windows 10
I have licensed Windows 10 that shipped with my laptop. Now, it glued to my Microsoft account... somehow
there are some batch or reg mods to remove the watermark
now that M2 is launching they should come up with bootcamp again
Using Parallel and did not activate as I'm not using it much
I'm curious, anyone started to get keyboard and mouse issues when installing Win 11 updates?
Mouse-pointer issues when I choose parallels gaming Option. It sets Mouse top "gaming Mode" which I can enable under VM Hardware options
Basically, you are advocating using Windows without paying the developers. Even if you are right about the legal issues (which I don't think you are) what you are advocating is immoral.
>immoral to Microsoft
Lol got any more jokes today?
Why don't you just crack the thing? There is even open source stuff to do it and no risk of getting virus

Can’t you just run the Intel version of Windows on an M1 machine in Parallels?
No you can only run the ARM version at a decent speed.
If they start with code compiled for ARM, then a lot of the commands are just pass through, while a few may require some tweaking. If they start with code compiled for something else, then all of the commands have to be interpreted, requiring more time to run.
Since when is VMware Fusion compatible with M1 Macs?
That's part of their FAQ:
"With exception, the following Macs are not supported: Macs based on Apple Silicon CPUs"
They have a tech preview which has Apple Silicon support.
Don't spend money on windows, smartest shit you've ever said

Who even buys Windows for the full price or it buys it at all these days?
Ikr pretty unnecessary video I'd say
Why would anyone activate win in a VM?
Microsoft will not add apple drivers, they just won't
Eac support information plz
windows vms on m1 mac are pretty useless. only windows 11 for arm works, and even then you cannot get x86 software or another x86 vm inside the windows vm to work. to virtual box, no linux vms.
