Yup. Cowher changed things up this week, instead of having the entire remaining schedule when the team came into the meeting room at the beginning of this game week he only had the bears written up there as the next opponent. And they never lost another game that season
I remember this game. The week before Rex Grossman substituted for Kyle Orton in the 2nd quarter of the falcons game on Sunday Night, and then 3 years later, Orton replaced Grossman as the starter after outplaying Grossman in the preseason

As a young Steelers fan…2005 was one of the most memorable seasons I’ve ever witnessed. This was the start of the Road of the Bus to SuperBowl XL. We had to win out after losing to the Bengals in Pittsburgh and then won huge AFC playoff games all on the road against the top 3 seeded teams. Good times, nervous times…But good ones.
That playoff run in 2005 was one of the most suprising I seen in 40 years of watching the NFL --- the Steelers looked dead in the water by early December --- then they come alive and go on this amazing run for the ages and take the trophy
Steelers are the only team to beat the top 3 seeds of their own conference and 1 seed of the other conference. The packers came close in 2010 by beating the top 3 teams in the NFC but in the super bowl they played #2 seeded steelers. The #1 seeded patriots lost in their divisional round
I attended the Steelers game the week prior against the Bengals. We got hosed on a muffed punt call and lost by a touchdown. On the way out of the stadium a guy behind me said something along the lines of "Well I guess now we're in the hunt for Reggie Bush." This game completely turned the tide of the Steelers season; that Bengals game was the last game they lost, and they won their last 8 including 3 straight road playoff games to win the Super Bowl!
The moment Bettis ran over urlacher is so iconic. Side note: the steelers are what the bears would be if they ever had a decent offense to compliment their very scary defense.
My favorite season from the Steelers Jerome Bettis last ride made my childhood seeing him hold up that super bowl trophy!!! The Steelers need to get back to this type of smash mouth football and we’ll be contenders again!!!
I watched this with my Grandma who is a die hard Bears fan. And this game was the first time I saw her get super mad at them for the way they were playing. Plus that Bus trucking on Urlacher is just ironic to the Steelers super season.
You could tell Bill Cowher lit a fire in this team by the way they manhandled this tough Bears team. These Steelers never looked back and eventually won the SB. On a side note these Bears teams were REALLY lacking in QB play, but had great defenses and special teams. Seems like that's always been their dilemma throughout their history.
I think like this game should've happened in 2004 because the NFL should've redid the interconference rotation like this: 2002,2006,2010,2014,2018,2022 AFC East vs NFC East (Patriots,Dolphins,Jets,Bills vs Eagles,Redskins,Giants,Cowboys) AFC North vs NFC West (Steelers,Ravens,Browns,Bengals vs Rams,49ers,Seahawks,Cardinals) AFC South vs NFC South (Titans,Colts,Jaguars,Texans vs Buccaneers,Saints,Falcons,Panthers) AFC West vs NFC North (Raiders,Broncos,Chiefs,Chargers vs Bears,Packers,Vikings,Lions) 2003,2007,2011,2015,2019,2023 AFC East vs NFC North (Jets,Patriots,Dolphins,Bills vs Packers,Vikings,Bears,Lions) AFC North vs NFC South (Steelers,Browns,Ravens,Bengals vs Buccaneers,Falcons,Saints,Panthers) AFC South vs NFC East (Titans,Colts,Jaguars,Texans vs Eagles,Giants,Redskins,Cowboys) AFC West vs NFC West (Raiders,Broncos,Chargers,Chiefs vs 49ers,Rams,Seahawks,Cardinals) 2004,2008,2012,2016,2020,2024 AFC East vs NFC South (Patriots,Dolphins,Bills,Jets vs Panthers,Saints,Buccaneers,Falcons) AFC North vs NFC North (Ravens,Bengals,Steelers,Browns vs Packers,Vikings,Bears,Lions) AFC South vs NFC West (Colts,Titans,Jaguars,Texans vs Rams,Seahawks,49ers,Cardinals) AFC West vs NFC East (Chiefs,Broncos,Raiders,Chargers vs Eagles,Cowboys,Redskins,Giants) 2005,2009,2013,2017,2021,2025 AFC East vs NFC West (Patriots,Jets,Bills,Dolphins vs Seahawks,Rams,Cardinals,49ers) AFC North vs NFC East (Steelers,Ravens,Bengals,Browns vs Eagles,Giants,Cowboys,Redskins) AFC South vs NFC North (Colts,Jaguars,Texans,Titans vs Packers,Vikings,Lions,Bears) AFC West vs NFC South (Chargers,Broncos,Chiefs,Raiders vs Falcons,Saints,Panthers,Buccaneers) & maybe then I wouldn't hate this game.
