Like a lot of other people, I automatically assumed this was a huge channel based on the great production quality. I almost never leave comments, but I definitely wanna add to the interactions with this video/ your channel. Amazing game and commentary!
When I was reading this I was like “what is he talking about?” Because I read the subscriber count as 1.45 million instead of 1.45 thousand and didn’t question it at all
This is amazing! Using the sensory clutter of the busy streets and the ever growing media presence to elevate the already frustrating game was brilliant and more than suitable for his situation
I always interpreted "2nd person game" as a 3rd person, but with the camera facing the face of the character. I imagine it all as the levels of a dialogue. The 1st person is obviously "You", the world seen from your eyes. The world seen from the 2nd person is how you look from your friends perspective when you talk to them. 3rd person is how it looks from a bystanders viewpoint, usually from behind since they are not part of the dialogue.
There’s a lot of different interpretations but how I see, or rather, what I know about the bases of 2nd person is 1st is the perspective of your eyes, 3rd is from another’s eyes but 2nd is “your eyes looking at you.” In a sense, it’s something like reading a choose your own adventure and the word “you.”is used a lot. Or something like dungeons and dragons. You control it, but you are also having it described to you.
I would interpret it as telling the story from someone else's perspective, while that someone else is also part of the story. For example, Final Fantasy 15 isn't really about the prince's fate, but more about the story of all the people he met along the way, and it's the way the prince is involved in the whole story that makes the story work.
@@emeralgamedev I think what would have made it better is if the phone moved slightly. It would make it more "second person" and immersive. See that Driver San Francisco mission.
@@ekinteko To me, this seems like a 1st-person game about dong playing flappy bird rather than a 2nd-person game. It would be a 2nd-person game if we were seeing the perspective of a person inside the flappy bird-universe.
Damn, i'm surprised by the number of views this got With the quality of production i was sure this was a really big channel, i hope this comes true soon
You did an incredible job. This is really an art piece, a reflection of society and puts the player in the literal shoes of the developer. I would add checkpoints, though, so people can experience the ending. Starting from the beginning every time is infuriating. Though a difficulty selector, with or without checkpoints, would allow you to keep your original vision.
this isnt second person, second person would be like if we were viewing this player from someone else's first person perspective. Like if someone was walking beside him, looking at him using his phone and thats what we saw while controlling the guy thats on the phone. Either way this was a great video, cant believe its such a small channel
Buut, you are playing as Faby (Flappy Bird) as viewed by Dong's First person perspective. So your scenario would add yet another layer to the abstraction. That's how I was thinking of it anyway. Thanks for watching and giving it some thought, it's interesting to think about!
This is so high quality Emeral!! Im so impressed. The two dudes hanging off of him were so funny to see. Knowing the logic behind it makes it even funnier. I remember feeling annoyed when I learned that flappy bird was taken off the app store . "why would he lose all that money, can't he just ignore the comments"? But getting older and having more perspective I can only imagine the amount of stress it must have caused him and probably still does from time to time. super great idea and even better execution. Cant wait see what else you do. Will try to see if I can beat it!
Aww, thanks for watching! I'm so glad you liked it. I think Dong just wanted to put something nice into the world. Good luck and lemme know what you think!
Imagine walking down the street seeing someone walking, and someone floating behind them using their right hand to play flappy bird without look, the person walking is looking, and sometimes someone floating on their left uses their hand to do something on the phone.
Extremely unique concept and super high quality video like others have mentioned, you’re definitely going places BUT this isn’t technically second person perspective but man this is creative.
Dude this is amazing! I’ve been working on a game in Unity with a couple friends for quite a while now and seeing this is a huge motivation to keep working on it and some of the resources you used look super useful (like Mixamo) so I’ll have to check them out!! Awesome work, keep it up :)
This game is so creative and tells a tragic tale plus the production quality on this video is mind blowing for a channel with 4K subs you need more recognition
I thik this is the best game I have ever seen in a youtube video. The idea is very cool. Bringing back a game I played so much as a kid but with a fun twist to make it more complicated. I also think it was awesome all the details that you have added to the game, and playing it is very smooth and relaxing Congrats!!
this feels like a 704K sub channel not a 704 sub channel good work (the fact you got through 99 pipes is wildly impressive. I've never passed 15!) Also, you remade all the assets instead of just copying them from somewhere. I have no idea why one would do that other than to flex, and flex you have.
Haha, thanks kind of you to say. I started out thinking I'd make everything myself but soon realized that would take forever. Making the mobile game assets felt like a nice compromise!
Wow this is pretty amazing, I played the original game for ten minutes and never really thought about it any more. I'm impressed the dude took it down for those reasons you mentioned. Great video!
Such a creative idea. I hope this video is the start of some amazing channel growth for you. You definitely deserve it for all the effort you put into this. Good luck man.
Found this video on my homepage, which means the almighty algorithm has taken a slight liking to this video; congrats. Very nice looking game btw; I definitely want to try it.
Really nice video in my opinion! Since the Flappy Bird release. I too, have been looking into Dong Nguyen, alot. His story and why he deleted Flappy Bird. This was a great example that you can achieve big things from a small place. Because u didnt spend thousands of hours on this game, but you achieved the most interesting Flappy Bird remake ever. Really good!
already watching you play the game in the last minute of the video was getting me so tense! great execution. (also the comedic timing of 10 reasons to quit flappy bird)
This is already a thing, somewhat. This reminds me of how a long time ago someone made an old Unity game where you had to play Flappy Bird and eat cereal at the same time. Don’t remember if Markiplier or anyone played it lol, but it’s a thing!
This isn't really 2nd person though. It's still 1st person but your avatar in turn controls a 3rd person game. 2nd person would mean you control from the perspective of another person in the scene. Say you played Doom but saw through the eyes of the demons. To make it clear: You'd still be controlling the Doom Guy but saw from the perspective of what ever he's shooting at. Ofc this isn't really a feasible control scheme, hence you hardly ever see it in games. The closest thing to a 2nd person perspective is how in some RPGs, during dialogue, you see your avatar through the eyes of the NPC your talking to. Regardless a very interesting video. I hope your channel grows, it seems very underrated to me.
Awesome video! I think you might find something like inverse kinematics interesting/useful, it would allow you to position/animate the hands statically and have the arms move as needed. Looking forward to more videos!
As someone who doesn't make games but plays them, I can't help but be hopelessly interested in the amazing things game devs can do. As a fellow aspiring dev, the tools you used in this look incredibly useful! Could you tell us what assets you used? The low poly character creator looked especially useful!
The start of the video is very much wrong. The game was pulled because the dude was making around 10-30k usd a day and the game used assets stolen from nintendo.
