I really like this sort of RP they are doing, the lack of meta gaming is very new and interesting to me to sell their characters. If a player can remind the DM about say, the additional damage from Melf’s Acid Arrow, why can’t the player also remind the DM about the injury table. The game isn’t about beating the DM or vice versa, it’s about having fun, and people using the DM’s forgetfulness against them to cheat isn’t fun

As sad as it is that *that* happened, I’m not all that surprised. Playing an Aarakokra(?) with an inability to fly is a very brave move and I respect Tom for that but, seeing as flight is a big part of his race, it was inevitable that something would go wrong at some point.
From what I've seen of 5e the way Injury Table rolls are called for made it inevitable that something would go wrong. This isn't a slight against Mark, it just seems PCs going down regularly is almost expected by the system.
Yeah, giving up flight as Aarakocra is really REALLY ballsy, but at the same time it does give the character a more developed feel. Also I'm FAIRLY certain that if Tom didn't want to lose the arm, Mark would've probably said no to playing one. I mean being stranded in the middle of nowhere suddenly loses all meaning when you've got a party member who can literally scout ahead without worry or just fly to the nearest sky city and request help.
Xiuhnan I idk you can get around that easily. So he wants to scout in the air? In an area full of wild elf archers? Yaaaa. Ok he gets to the city now he’s their alone, the party’s down one member while being attacked and there’s no guarantee he will find them in a thick winter forest when he goes back. Banning a race simply for a racial feat is kinda like say he isn’t a good enough dm to plan for player choice.
Honestly, flight as a racial feat is pretty overpowered for the first five levels or so. Not that it's impossible to deal with, but, well there's a reason it's not allowed in Adventure's League.
Oh how sad, I didn't realize echo was an actual killable thing. I thought it was like some sort of spirit or spell kind of like a familiar that she could call back at will.

Great episode! Very harsh but it was more a series of bad rolls and only a couple of bad tactics. Hopefully the players and characters both learn to be more aggressive, not run in the wrong situation, always heal the downed healer first and better tactics in general. But hey that's how we all learn! It's a great character growth moment for the whole group. I hope they continue to get better and better these trials tend to bring people closer together as a group! As well there are artificial eyes, and high level restoration magic to save towards. Maybe now they won't be too insanely generous and save their money as they will NEED for better gear items and healing! I mean donate some... but really they are going into battle and risking their lives and magic gear and healing is expensive! The better gear and healthier THEY are the better they will be to go fight and save others in danger (rather than just throwing money at problems). Those injury tables are rough but add drama! @@the1asianpersuasion Its always possible, but Kim did imply it would be someone from Critical Role, and Mark guested on their show back at the beginning of summer I think, so it would make sense.
I'm new to 5e just playing a tinker gnome wizard and on a one-shot, a halfling sorcerer but my automatic reaction/thought was to retrieve Quill's eyeball and mend it. Not sure if that would work but I'd give it a go. I'm enjoying hearing the different interesting decisions. Love the roll playing.
Deanne Kellogg no no that’s not how mend works. Seriously for fixing a body part they have special healing spells (heal major/minor injury) but that’s kinda critical with may need a full regeneration spell.
Yeah, and if you notice, Mark is basically, as he often does, telling her to use it as he perfectly lines up the two Brownstone kids and plant creature all in a line.
You’d think mark would show SOME mercy since they are technically down a player, as long as he lets them get echo back I can forgive the cruelty but only then!!!
I really like the injury table, I think it gives players and characters more of a backstory, but in my opinion it shouldn't be AS devastating. Rolling a natural 1 should have serious repercussions (like gouged eye, amputated arm/leg...), but a 2, 3, 4 or 5 should only be things like broken bones or torn tissue. I think as it currently stands having an injury table this powerful (with only about 50% of not getting an injury) just might be TOO powerful.
I mean.... that is what the table currently is. ;) Most of the results are temporary problems, with 1-5 being things like broken limbs etc. Keep in mind, for all the checks we've made we've only had 2 injuries because the DC is quite low in most cases.
I really like it honestly, considering that the only people in this campaign that are really like, used to fighting are Aila and Sentry. Nova's just a nerd who found a sword. Quill was a recently injured messenger. Lucius was a rich elf raised in luxury and security. The only reason theyre in this adventure is because they were unfortunate enough to have been in a crashing airship. Compared to Jiutou, Trell, Cam, Reynard and Elora, who were a rebel slave-turned monk, a criminal drow warlock, a rogue-ish gypsy running from his past, an aspiring hunter looking for kills, and a druid princess with a background of feywild fighting (respectively), this party is mostly just a bunch of civilians. So It feels really organic that the freakouts are often, and made way for some amazing character development following their first engagement (the wild elves). But already we can see them growing as adventurers I think its all cause theyre really getting a good feel for their characters, and the fact that Mark's setting really brings out the power in the party's dynamic. But thats my opinion
Ha me too. it's so hypocritical because I do nothing but criticize everything they do and yet all seen all of Campaign 1, dead reckoning, and uncharted territory
Timezones are brutal. Ao badly do I wish I could be watching live. As a dragonborn who might lose an eye, limb, or more. The loss of an eye and leg is quite a hardship. Also, I have been looking at the dms guild weekly, hoping to see and maybe bring to the dm of our group the injury table that is used. Or even to have something handy for possible deployment to make things interesting.
According to massive damage rules lucius should be dead at 59 minutes. After being left at 3 hit points after the last round of combat taking 16 damage (19 hp total) the next attack dealt a total of 23 damage which would've meant - 20 hp. greater than total=death

@@the1asianpersuasion Its always possible, but Kim did imply it would be someone from Critical Role, and Mark guested on their show back at the beginning of summer I think, so it would make sense.
@@silberhornj im hoping for either sam or liam, theyre my favorites
Mark is such a mean DM.
Just realized sentry never used her badass laser....
Jake Martin oh yeah wtf
she used it twice in the chasm
Yeah, and if you notice, Mark is basically, as he often does, telling her to use it as he perfectly lines up the two Brownstone kids and plant creature all in a line.
@@animalunleashed3812 my comment was from 3 years ago holy crap lol time flies
@@Smaglefop Just found the series about 3 days ago. :)
I can’t wait for what will happen to B.B.
Qillek has the eye of Horus now
Doesn't quill have lv2 life cleric with channel divinity or is he more of a bardy bird
1:56:50 is still probably one of my favourite parts
Me just yelling the entire battle: "Sentry use your laser!"
In the forest?
You’d think mark would show SOME mercy since they are technically down a player, as long as he lets them get echo back I can forgive the cruelty but only then!!!
Considering the goliath could easily have killed at least two of them if he had kept attacking them when down there was plenty of mercy given.
@@toshomni9478 He could, but not if he wanted to live, the others are still threats afterall.
Plus is heavely implied that he thought quill was dead
Lucias has died in almost every combat from the first episode 😂😂😂
Getting divinity vibes from poor Sentry having to constantly use most of her turn chasing down a teleporting enemy 😂😂
I am so glad that that burp stayed in :D
@@HighRollersDnD That is true... I'm not caught up yet so I guess I'm just fearful of what might happen.
And thus Qillek "Punished Birdie" was created
The tree lady said she could give lucius a wooden leg hmmmm..
Aracorcra has wooden arm?
when 75% of your adventuring party are soft babies
More like %60 cause Aila but in this case yeah....
But already we can see them growing as adventurers
I think its all cause theyre really getting a good feel for their characters, and the fact that Mark's setting really brings out the power in the party's dynamic.
But thats my opinion
@@midnightproductions3442 yeah but this is also the same party that screamed " no survivors!!" and killed all the elves
@@TortillaBill makes it all the more flavourful...? I guess? Hahahahaha idk man I just really like this series
Ha me too. it's so hypocritical because I do nothing but criticize everything they do and yet all seen all of Campaign 1, dead reckoning, and uncharted territory
Wow everyone lost something this campaign except ayla whose story is based upon finding something
God that was intense. (Spoilers)
Tom got really lucky then, if Quill didn't got a nat20 there'd probably be a death.
Silly Nova, for not thinking Mark Hulmes would do that
Timezones are brutal.
What an epic frigging battle!
I love the injury table
Did Mark ever end up releasing a pdf for lightfall campain?
RIP Quill’s perception
That was brutal. Mark had them fight a guy who can one hit them.
According to massive damage rules lucius should be dead at 59 minutes. After being left at 3 hit points after the last round of combat taking 16 damage (19 hp total) the next attack dealt a total of 23 damage which would've meant - 20 hp. greater than total=death
Dear lord, I hope none of my DMs EVER see this. That is beyond brutal. Consequences is one thing, but jesus. :(
So basically the injuries are all Kim's fault?......welp
Edit: to be fair, the loss of Aila left 75% of the party squishy so......rip rip rip
Well it did not help at all I can say that much. Running away and one person not there was devastating.
YAY THEY GOT VALOR BACK! CAN'T WAIT TILL B.B. SUFFERS!
Tom/Quill has really taken to the leadership role! I think the party would have devolved to madness during and after the fight without him.
Holy shit.......
Oh my god.. I can breath.. Mark.. your a fucking gangster !!
So hardcore, I couldn’t handle waiting a week for the next one soooo happy I can binge ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know yall are in the UK, but listen. And elk that size is not an elk. That is a Moose. Moose, I tell you. They are known as megafauna for a reason. Large sized creature is right, a moose could wrek your car and not have a scratch on them.
Nova: (in between sobs) EAT A SNICKERS YOURE NOT YOU WHEN YOURE HUNGRY
