Your welcome. I still have the coating on after 2 1/2 years and the emblems are still near perfect. The wheels look about the same as in this video except for where a shop did a wheel alignment and they clamped the equipment to my front wheels. In some areas in went through the coating.
Very excited about this and the original video. I have a gen 5 SR5, and like these wheels, they look so good in black! Question, I assume you are off-roading regularly as well? Curious how these hold up with the roughness of our desert here in AZ.
Yes, they look excellent in black. They have held up incredibly well, 3 years later. The only real damage done was from the alignment tools they clamped on to my front wheels after the lift. There was a little delamination on the very outer edge of some of the wheels, but that wasn't for a while after application. They key is prepping correctly and thoroughly and applying enough product and it will be extremely durable, even with the AZ off-roading.
I put bronze plastic dip on my Subaru Legacy 4 years ago it's still strong! Yes, some are peeling but only where the guys use the tire machine. Other than that I realized you need to clean them at least once a month since there is def some brake dust and grim built into them but not noticeable unless you put your face right in front of the rim. Honestly watch a video, make sure the can is always straight up and down, plenty of smooth layers, and keep the cans in warm water for no bubbles and drips. Cheers!
I recently used Plasti Dip Gloss. Very tricky stuff, it'll come out textured if you don't put it on thick enough and will run if you spray it too heavy. Plus i was battling the outdoor elements. I think i'm the only person without a garage lol.
I'm impressed! The spots on the wheels where you see little bits of degradation are no different than if you had anodized wheels. Besides, a 4Runner doesn't look right if it doesn't have a few chips and dings and "Arizona Pinstriping" here and there. If it needs to look perfect, you've got the wrong vehicle. Get a Prius. :)
I agree. ~14,000 miles driven, multiple Auto car washes, hand power washes, and off-roading done, it has held up well. Thanks for always watching and commenting.
I did a video of me removing the lug nuts, check it out below. The biggest concern is if someone else does your tire rotations and they man handle the wheels. You have to be careful when handling the coatings on the wheels when remounting them. The answer to your lug nut question is here: ruclips.net/video/2UnvQ9pRUcE/видео.html&ab_channel=AZOverland
They won't ship to Alaska either. I cannot get this product in Alaska unless I have a specialty shipping company buy it, and then truck ship it up here $$$. DYC only ships UPS and UPS will only ship (the five cans) a package of that size and light weight by air, which isn't possible with aerosol cans. So, no dip for me either. 😥 My only option is plasti-dip at Walmart or Home Depot. But they never seem to have a color I would want on my wheels.
Hey thanks for the video. I was looking for a not freakin expensive method to get my wheels all black (ram rebel 2022). I've called around and repainting the wheels is around $800 to $1000. I might as well buy new wheels LOL. But the issue with new wheels is that I don't like the design of any of them. There is a $30 Vinyl wrap method but risk getting scratches and having to redo the wheel every time etc.
How would you recommend using this product on an emblem that doesn't stick up, but instead is pressed into the metal? ie: a mustang wheel center cap. Is it even possible to use this type of product with that kind of application??
You most likely will need to spray the whole cent cap. If you are really good with masking, you would probably be able to spray just the emblem, but you you would need to cut around it with a sharp blade after spraying or it will peel up with the tape. Let me know if this makes sense.
Did you rotate your tires during this time? The lug nuts were covered in your video too. I’m wondering if they have held up to the impact/socket for removing the wheels and tires.
Did you dip with the wheels on the car? Do the lug nuts get torn up when you rotate the tires- meaning do you have to re-spray each time you get the tires taken off for something?
If you prep and apply it correctly and keep the pressure washer at the correct distance and the wand is kept moving, then there will not be an issue. I have pressure washed my vehicle plenty of times without issue
Still diggin' it. I have no complaints. Since I am short and sit low in the seat I have no problem seeing the clock. A taller person may have some of that view restricted, but it works for me. After some very rocky, bumpy trails I thought the magnetic phone mount they have might not hold up, but it did. they say not for off-road but my phone did not budge.
Yes, I do it all the time. I use a 1700 psi pressure washer and don't concentrate it on 1 spot for too long. Keep it moving and you're good if it was applied correctly
Using 4 cans is fine. 5 doesn't hurt and would be needed for big rims but 1 can per rim is about right. I know they give 5 but they give enough so that no matter your wheel size you're good
Not for close to a year. I still have the coating on after 2 1/2 years and the emblems are still near perfect. The wheels still look very good with the exception of where the alignment shop attached there gauges and gouged the front wheels.
It's like a smooth rubber. Not sticky, but can easily run a soft microfiber cloth over it without snagging. If you haven't seen my original video, check it out in the link below for some closeup shots of the initial application. I think it may give a better idea of what I'm talking about. ruclips.net/video/DQ1MWaZait0/видео.htmlsi=P4zvZtqzCQO8CM7j
On my 4Runner front bumper, I used spray on truck bed liner. It is really durable and easy to touch up if needed. I've also used bed liner on my tow vehicle's front grill, both bumpers and it has held up really well over many years. My tow vehicle also does limited off road treks too.
Damn I was reading your message and my iPad died The first time I use Dirtex was on a house it was a rental property so I use my contractor sprayer to spray the ceilings and in side the closet and we had dry clothes down everywhere know if this was a custom job we would not of use the sprayer since it was a rental and any overspray we used the Dirtex I never knew about their tax this was back in like 2011 and the guy I was working with he’s the one who told me about the Dirtex and how great it worked on cleaning up windows after the paint job and using a glass Glass razor knife and cleaning up the overspray around the sides where the drop clothes from where is the drop cool off from walking around and some areas where is a dropcloth I would move like it wasn’t like a custom paint job so when we were done with his head to get any overspray off the wood floor and off the glass I what is amazed how the Dirtex worked I wear the paint dry on the wood floor you spray the dirt tex on to the areas and had a bucket and wet rags I was amazed how great this stuff worked so I always keep a can I then I found out how great it really worked using it in my own home and my daughter came back Ocean city and there was bugs all over the front of the car from the drive her and she got her car washed but they were still bugs On the front of the car how do you spray the dirt tax on there you leave it sit for like a minute and sometimes you might have to do it a couple times depending on how bad and how dirty the area is the stuff took those bugs straight off the car I was spring cleaning and the windows in my home are the can you pull down and fold out toward you so you can clean them up and I was using the Windex and I was going through lots of paper towels and then the first window took a good bit of elbow power to get the window not just a glass the actual window so I was like let me grab this Dirtex and try it on the next window I was amazed I sprayed it on let it sit 30 seconds how many don’t give me wrong you have to do it a couple times but nothing like just using the Windex this stuff cleans so good you can actually use it on your TVs screen your iPad your iPhone you just missed it and you can use the microfiber cloth or or I use those Vivd paper towels The top of the fridge raider head caked of dust my wife don’t clean like I do dhe don’t have the hand power and I am very OCD about cleaning I was taught since I was young and so I’m very OCD when I clean this dust and dirt on top of the refrigerator it was really like a lot of dust so like I sprayed Windex on there and I had plastic drywall knife and the dust was not budging I sprayed the Dirtex on there it took a few times like I said you got a spray it leave it sit for 30 seconds 40 seconds that in paper towels I had to do it a few times but it took it it cleaned everything after that I was hooked I mean I was already look like I have a white wood table in my kitchen and this girl that did my daughters hair got the pink dye on the wood no matter what I try nothing will take it off Dir tex took care of it Home Depot doesn’t carry it in the store anymore because everybody does it third-party selling on Amazon and Walmart so if you look it up and you see people selling two bottles for $25 for this and that I don’t buy from those people it might even say Home Depot and it’s charging more money than four dollars a can third-party sellers I’d buy it and buy like four cans at a time You can also buy a box and mix it up with water and make it yourself but I never done that yet I’m gonna try that for like cleaning the house but I am not gonna spray my pad and tv screens I won I do that I’m just gonna stick to the Can that I buy I wear a lot of under armor and I have some gray tennis shoes and some gray like hiking boots but they’re real light I wear a lot of sweatpants when I’m home just doing nothing I don’t really wear jeans unless I go out I put the gray under armor shoes and the gray boots they had white bottoms hot and then I use the soft brush and I clean them in the sanitary tub I sprayed the bottoms of the shoes left it sit on there I had to do it a few times even the size of the soles of her shoes I tried purple power I tried simple green I tried all that stuff to clean the bottom of the shoes because they were pure white nothing worked like that thst Dirtex I was amazed My Home sits on close to 5 acres so when the weather changes and spiders crawl up in my wife’s SUV and she flips out and she was driving home from work pulled over at a grocery store or target or something like that and bought some bug spray oh my God she sprayed The windshield she had it on the windows so I went out there with the Windex and it just smeared it I mean I cleaned it a few times with the Windex and then I grab the dirt tacks so I did use the Windex because she did it a few times after that again so I did use the Windex at first to get the majority of the bug spray off the glass but it was so smeared but using the Windex got a lot of the bug spray off of the windows then I use the Dirtex I like everything else leave it sit for 30 seconds 40 seconds and I’m glad that I use the Windex first they get the majority of the bug spray off the windows but that Dirtex you don’t have to use a lot you just mist the window that you’re cleaning messed it up pretty good clean it off you probably have to do it two or three times that’s why I said use the Windex first I get the majority of the stuff off but the Dirtex works great you have to do it a few times but that’s why I say good and use the Windex first because the third tax after that takes care of business 🪰🪲🐞🐜🪳🕷🦂🦟

So I'm guessing you hand wash the vehicle to avoiding tearing or peeling the Hyperdip with the soft-cloth brushes of an auto wash?
That would be ideal but no, I've been through the automatic car washes at least 5 times since doing this. I did a video on this as well
Can you still pressure wash wheels or parts that have been covered with plasti dip?
Yes, I do it all the time. I use a 1700 psi pressure washer and don't concentrate it on 1 spot for too long. Keep it moving and you're good if it was applied correctly
looks great. i bet it would hold up even better with the dip armor coat and then ceramic coat they sell on top of that.
Thanks. I have not tried those products. Do you have experience with them?
I just barely dipped mine, the problem is i only used 4 cans out of 5. Can i add the last can 3 days later?
I would double check with the company but I would think as long as the surface is thoroughly cleaned, it should be fine.

Did the hyper dip still have the same amount of gloss to it?
I think it may have lost a bit of the gloss over the year.
Can you describe the texture/feel of the paint?
