This is one of my most requested videos. In this incredibly vulnerable and quite difficult video to film, I talk you through my history and background with alcohol and why I decided to stop drinking. Grab a coffee because this is a real chatty one.

Thank-you for your transparency, you are a blessing to so many. I quit drinking at age 27 and have been sober for coming up 44 years. I'm 70 now. The best decision I ever made. Thank-you Carol
I'm 28 and decided to quit recently. I admire your decision and wish you all the best!
One week sober today 🎉
Update 39 days
Well done - hope you’re still doing well. Kudos to you! 🙌😊
I am tired of a nightly glass of wine before dinner. I feel so sleepy and it effects my food choices. I don’t feel I have a problem per se, but I don’t like how loose my tongue gets after a few drinks at a party. Glad to have this conversation with you.
going from "I need a glass after work to decompress + of course I get drunk with friends on fridays" to "I will get 1 cidre because I genuinely love the taste, and then I am happy and satisfied and I don't need to get drunk" has been lovely
I love that; "Is this bringing me closer to, or further from my goal?" Really inspiring, as always. 🐆
You are such a breath of fresh air. You're the most relatable RUclipsr I've come across x
Thank you so much Maebh xx
I get a lot of grief from relatives (Irish) because I choose not to drink. On the once in a while time I decide to enjoy a drink … they cheer. It makes me mad and I still smile. I then fight off food and most often lose my fight with food. However, I believe now, because of you, I will seek mental help!! So there!! ❤️❤️ 🐆
So many shattered lives from this. Glad you've found your balance. Soooo important... 💯👍
Thank you for sharing, Carla! ☀️🐆💋
Thank you for sharing your story. So inspirational! 🥰
Thank you for sharing such a personal story. I can relate to so much of what you said. I was a blackout binge drinker, making the poorest choices of my life in those moments, but have cut way back on drinking in the last few years. A lot of it had to do with finding the "sober curious" community that's largely based in the UK (Sober Dave's One for the Road Podcast, My Alcohol Free Life Podcast, William Porter who wrote Alcohol Explained etc.) but also the US (Annie Grace who wrote This Naked Mind, Holly Whitaker who wrote Quit like a Woman). Being able to question your relationship with alcohol without having to label yourself an alcoholic is so liberating. 🐆
🖤🖤🖤
Great content! Thanks for opening up. 🐆

Thank you Gena 🖤
Thank you for sharing ❤️ I too have used alcohol as a social crutch for way too long in fact most if my adult life. I consider that I have also been in a co dependent partnership with my drinking partner. My health now is the most important thing to me but I can still enjoy a drink. I am off in a cruise soon healthier than I have been in the last 3 years and will definitely be trying a couple of cocktails but the over indulgence no longer appeals J ❤️
Thanks!
So happy for you that you feel so comfortable in your skin! I'm getting there! 💋
I'm so happy for you Jennifer 🖤
🐆👄 great video! Thank you for being so honest!
Just wow. You are SO inspiring. 💋
Thank you Tamara x
Thank you for sharing. Im complete sober since 2016. I used to say that I only had problem with alcohol when I was drinking it. But still there was problem…
Thanks for sharing your story. It's so helpful and moving to see your journey with alcohol, mental health and your view of it. As someone who has seen what alcohol addition can do to your mental and physical health I'm so glad you've found a better place and know who you are and don't need it as that social crutch anymore. It makes me very happy to see how comfortable and happy you are with the place you are that you've worked so hard to get to. You inspire me every day! Only 0.4kg away from 20% lost, gonna get there before my holiday 🐆👄🖤
Wow Deni!! You’re doing so well 🖤
This is just the best video, thank you.
Thank you Deirdre 🖤
Thank you so much for sharing. I can totally relate to using food for numbing and alcohol to lower shame for functioning socially. You're inspiring as always! And I am so happy for you that you don't need those crutches anymore. You're definitely inspiring me to be more grounded and stop numbing out. I think another issue with intentionally numbing out is not only do we numb the pain but we also numb the joy. Really enjoying your maintenance journey as well. Please keep the amazing videos coming! 🖤🌞🐆
That's so true Shannon, we also numb the joy, how well put. 🖤
I love how self aware you are and how you work to understand and improve yourself. The world would be a better place if everyone was like you ⭐️
Awe wow thank you, it’s not easy but worth the work 🖤
Great video Carla 🐆💋

Carla - real as always
You are so wise and strong! 💋🐅
🌞🐆💋thank you for always inspiring me!
Thanks ! this is a wizen video!
Thanks so much for this video...I drank heavily pretty much daily for several years until this past January when my mom died of alcohol related issues. I currently still drink every now and then but I've realized I don't need it and don't really want it either. In the past I thought that alcohol was helping me with my social anxiety and depression but it actually made it so much worse. Wonderful content as always, your channel has helped me out a lot! 🐆🐆🐆
Thank you for sharing Sui, I’m so sorry for your loss 🖤🖤🖤
🐆💋Great and important video!!
👄 Thank you for sharing this, I always learn something new or a new way of looking at things from your videos.
That means so much Cheryl 🖤

Love your channel Carla. Have just stopped drinking at 66 and find your insights very helpful. I did have a laugh when you said what the Irish are known for😂. I don't like potatoes at all 😂😂😂😂

Here is what I got from your video-
Our health is our #1 priority
Our bodies are beautiful vessels to live our lives
Mental health work changes everything
Thank you!
I really like that round up! 🖤
Excellent video!!! Question for you , I don't know what is "normal" in Ireland. Are you going back to work soon or are you already back at work or is this now your full time job ?
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫
Lost my father to drink 11 months ago only 4 days before his 60th birthday. (Northern Irish family). As much as it is part of the culture here, it can be devastating for people.
I never drink now, glad you can live happily without it also. X
I'm so sorry to hear that Lauren 🖤🖤🖤
I’m so sorry that you lost your dad at such a young age 💔
@@jacquelinemartin9124 thank you. Yeah was only 26. Sucks.
🐆💋 Thank you Carla. A question that may be a bit too TMI, but during your weightloss journey did you find that your body odor changed?
It didn't no Laura x

Hello Carla! Can I ask, how many steps do you do in your 1 hour morning walk?
Thank you for your inspirational chats 🚶♀️😊
Between 6 and 9k the faster I go the less steps 🖤
@@HalfofCarla Thank you! Shall aim for 6 here on out! Helpful to have a target! 🧑🦳
@@liannemary4678 I’d focus more on the length of time you’re out and then your speed 🖤
@@HalfofCarla OK! Good idea! Thank you 😊
