  • Jonathan Troost, PhD, from the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research at the University of Michigan, discusses the statistical analysis that determined if proteinuria is a viable outcome measure for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
FSGS is a rare, heterogeneous kidney disorder that often presents with proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome. Historically, proteinuria was thought to be an appropriate outcome measure for FSGS. However, the data establishing proteinuria as a viable outcome measure has not necessarily stemmed from well powered studies to date. Troost and colleagues recently published their statistical analysis in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and provided additional evidence to the literature of the benefit of proteinuria as an outcome measure in patients with FSGS.

You mean that loss of protein is not the only measure of fsgs. and a pateint with GFR less then 10 still has chances to live another 2 to 3 years without dylisis.
