RUSHI PANCHAMI - RUSHI CHI BHAJI /ऋषीची भाजी
Ganesh chaturthi (chaturthi means falling on the 4th day), hence panchami (means falling on 5th day) so Rushi Panchami is the 5th day of Bhadrapad month where the great deeds of Saptarshi (7 great sages - Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadhvaja, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni and Vashishta) are remembered and they're worshiped.
As the rushis lived in the forest and foraged for food, they ate whatever was naturally available in the forest without labour (in olden days labour meant vegetables grown with the help of Ox (bullock). Hence on this day, as a tribute to the great sages, married women observe Rushi Panchami fast which includes reading the Vrat Katha which signifies that this vrat (fast) is significant with respect to menstruation.
The Rushi chi bhaji (ऋषीची भाजी) contains all the vegetables that naturally grow in the forest during this season without the aid of any labour. Also, the vegetable is prepared as would be prepared by the sages hence no oil, spices or taste enhancers are used. Infact if you buy these vegetables from adivasi women, it's a tradition to sell not just these vegetables but also the salt (rock salt naturally found in the mountains), wild tamarind, wild rice flour (जात्या वर दललेला) etc. So you're not even supposed to use the salt from your kitchen and make it 100% like the old days. One might think that it won't taste that great but these simple ingredients bring out the natural taste of the wild vegetables and makes it SUPER tasty.
It's one of my favourite vegetables and I literally wait for an entire year to have it :)

ऋषींची भाजी : यात साऱ्या रानभाज्या असतात. ऋषींचे तांदूळ, मीठ वगैरे काढताना कोणत्याही प्राण्यांचा वापर केला जात नाही. ऋषींच्या भाजी फायबरस (तंतुमय) असते.
I am not marathi but after watching this i am kinda been fond of marathi community and their foods. All we eat is rice and boil veggies ( meats are also boiled) 😭😭😭

Being in America for a long time now, I really am feeling proud that someone is trying to promote Marathi food. All over the world people know South and North Indian food. But we all need to make more efforts in promoting our own most delicious Marathi food items on a regular basis. LOVED this video. The British guy is cute and American guy is hilarious.
