Thanks for this series it's been a great help. Doing the same repairs that you did for the most part and it's been great to go back and look at your videos and refresh myself as I go along.
I did notice that your passenger side cam gear is backwards I almost did the same thing. Your video helped me catch it. . I feel bad pointing it out but figured you would want to know. It may or may not walk IDK. Thanks again for your help.
I am so happy this vehicle is getting the love that it deserves when you get it ready take me for a ride lol I would love to see how much of a difference it is
the tensioner isn't trash because you dropped it and the pin fell out! just re-compress the shaft and put the pin back in to install, and finally pull the pin when it is all aligned and good to go. The tensioner has a strong spring inside that allows for movement as the parts wear.
I owned a 95 2wd 4Runner at one time and always wanted to carb swap it just to say I did. Divorce forced me to get rid of it but it had the driver’s side head gasket leaking on it. I sure enjoyed it even though it was a 2wd and a 3slow engine.
Nicely done! It’s always an adventure coming back to finish a project that has been sitting long enough that you don’t quite remember how it goes back together. I have a feeling that’s going to be the case for me on the Shelby 😅…nothing quite like the slightly nervous feeling of turning the key on something you’ve rebuilt hoping it starts up! 😂
Many don't know it but the 1988-1989 3VZE used head gaskets with asbestos and had zero issues. 1990 forwards they had to stop using asbestos gaskets and ran into issues. The engine itself is BULLET PROOF with the right gaskets. If you're lucky you have a low mile 89 in this body if never into should go your typical 250k-300k miles without head gasket issues 🍻
Bad to the bone Bro. I learned some things that i questioned. I am replacing new head to my 91 Toy 3zve, my concern was the distributor setting installed back ,great video very helpful
You’re a goldmine of information. I’ve got 2 95’s that I’m rebuilding right now and I’m pretty good at all things suspension and stability related but when it comes to the engines and guts I’m half retarded.
You work on a little of everything. Like your collection of cars, definitely not biased on brands.
Yeah, I pretty much flock to junk.

Funny, I actually noticed the same thing while I was editing the video before I posted it. Had to go all the way back and fix it. Fun.

Good info, thanks!
Nice job man!
Thanks!

Carb swap would be a cool thing to do.

Man, you said it. This thing has been apart for so long that I had to actually find all the junk I'd bought for it.
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing so this was very helpful.
Glad to help!

Glad I could help!
Don't replace the starter. If it starts having trouble, just replace the contacts in it. It's easy to do and cheap.
Good advice!
where did you find you manual at?
I had a subscription to Alldata
How many miles were on that rig when you bought it?
Just north of 300K
That’s awesome, my ‘93 Toyota pickup has the 3vze at 170k miles and runs like a top.
Nice work it's a very problematic engine for Toyota I've been a tech for 13 years
That's what I understand too. I hear they're notorious for headgasket failures.

No comments, let me be the first, then!
Thanks!!
NEVER "repair" a Toyota head...ask me how I know...:D
....I think I just learned the hard way.
