I came on just to see if there was anything drastically differently than what I learned in the 70s. (I have since gotten over my complete and utter disbelief that granny squares could have EVER come back into style😂). And at first I felt like a bit of an idiot for paying five bucks for the pattern on Ravelry when you have it free on your website, especially when all I needed was the schematic, but I’ll tell you what…you really know what you are doing and your teaching style is easy and professional, and I’m happy to support you. Thank you.
I often find that switching hooks, from a metal to plastic, vice versa, can solve the splitting problem. Some yarns work well with wood, but not plastic, and so on. I absolutely love this pattern!
So beautiful. I love your color choices. Thank you so much🌹
So excited to make this!
I bought this kit from Lion Brand's website. I just finished making the 54 squares, now I'm putting it together. I'm a little confused as to how the sleeves are going to work. I guess I'll just sewing it together and hope for the best!!!
Ooo what's a beautiful cardigan. How many squares did you use for your cardigan?
Could you pls show us the whole manual to craft this cardigan 🙈 I‘s beso so soooo thankful
So beautiful colours 😍 can we have a tutorial for the cardigan?🥺♥️
The pattern and assembly instructions are on my website! www.originallylovely.com/crochet/granny-square-cardigan-crochet-pattern/
May I know what are gazettes for?
Que lindo!!🌺pero como se hace la parte del frente no se vé en el tutorial😒
Looks lovely! Ive read your pattern I was wondering can I add more granny squares to make it longer without going up a size or will it mess up the whole thing?
It won’t mess up the whole thing! You definitely could just make sure to have more yarn. I’m actually making a winter/coat version now that is longer so stay tuned :)
@@Originally.Lovely have you uploaded the video for the winter coat version ?
How much wool do I need for this cardigan in pounds?
Thank you for this tutorial. I have one question. When you slip stitch to join into the second stitch, are you inserting the hook through the two loops of that second stitch or just the back loop. Thanks.
I am going through just the back loop! With anything else I would go through both but since I am turning and working another slip stitch into that corner hole, it’s doesn’t make much of a difference and works a bit more quickly!
@@Originally.Lovely Thank you!
Why go down a hook size for a granny square? @originally lovely.
Since Granny Squares are made with double crochet and have larger holes in them I think a smaller hook makes them look more uniform! The recommended hook size is always just a guideline and you can go up or down depending on the stitch and project :)
how to you join them together ?
I have written instructions and a diagram for joining on my website but not a video tutorial currently! www.originallylovely.com/crochet/granny-square-cardigan-crochet-pattern/
how do you weave in your ends?
I always go back, forth, & back again about 1-2 inches each way within the stitches that are the same color as the tail!! Some have reached out to me that their magic loops have came undone so if you feel like this is an issue possibly tie a knot there in addition to weaving it in very thoroughly multiple ways. It’s tedious but it makes it very secure. I’ve never had a tail come undone!!
@@Originally.Lovely I’ve also personally found that chaining and slip stitching to create a loop is more sturdy than doing a magic ring. I always use magic rings but for the project I’m currently making with these squares I used the chaining method. Weaving the ends is the most tedious part to me but it’ll be worth it 😂
I purchased the pdf pattern for this and it’s great to have a tutorial but I’m finding it difficult to see exactly what stitch you’re picking up as it’s not close enough. Is there anyway to zoom in?
So far I have not discovered a way to get closer to her working those corners, just took more time rewatching and reading the comments. Even the Alt print screen is not going to capture the entire movement of the hook. You can click on the 3 dots to the right of the vid menu items and click transcript. I use this a lot cause I'm hard of hearing. Searched youtube for granny square tutorials and many ties off after each round then turns the work to add a new color and shows how to use standing dc instead of chain 2or3 for the first stitch.
@@samanthaB7712 Yes, I have a system worked out now however those slip stitch colour changes still don’t seem that secure to me! All the ends woven in will hopefully secure it. 🙏🏻
Simone - what does the front look like? I can’t tell by the pattern. Thanks for whatever help you can give!
@@TheDido5 I’m still only making the individual squares and haven’t put it together yet.
@@TheDido5 The model in the pattern is wearing a small and there are many photos in the pattern mainly of the right profile side. For the small size, there is only one strip of squares on the right and left of the front. Take a look at the schematic layout of the different sizes in the pattern to see where the increased squares are. Size increases are usually in the center so as to keep the arms in perspective. The model cardigan is colors coordinated to present the cardigan in the best light and not to have no two of the same square together....if following the color schematic of the model photo you will have many individual colored squares, not the same while some will repeat 2, 3, 4, and 5 squares of the same. This pattern is in Ravelry and there are several folks who have made it already that you might find the answer you specifically seek. The kit and pattern I believe are designed to use a specific amount of yarn so using the model color schematic may cause more yarn use.
What if your squares are only 3.5 inches?
You could try using a larger hook size! If you make the cardigan with smaller squares, the whole thing will be smaller and won't fit as well
