For the fuses which ones did you use by chance?

I am a BIG believer in dash cams... See the end... If you're thinking about it, JUST DO IT!
I came here looking for a better set of fuse locations to tap, hoping to find a trick or tip to make the destruction of the fuse box cover less destructive...
For the Viofo hardwire kit, a very clean and safe install would be to remove the grab handle on the passenger side A-pillar, and run the wires across the bottom of the dash. The A-pillar on the passenger side is easy to remove and the wires can be easily tucked in the opposite direction of the airbag system. VERY easy and the power control system (with the pilot light and voltage cut off selector) can be tucked in the wheel well and relatively easy to access.
Running along the driver's A-pillar and door gasket is a little risky as the curtain airbag explodes downward and pushes the A-pillar cover outward a short distance.
I don't like Viofo's quality control, but their options and optics are hard to beat. As I've installed these systems in my Toyotas (three 4th Generation Rav4s, two 5th Generation 4Runners (including a '20 TRD Off-Road Plain) and a 4th Gen Prius), their power supplies ship defective at a high rate and I now over buy and return the others. I've had 4 that didn't work right out of the box. If you're an Amazon Prime member, order extras, test before installing and return the extras once you're successfully installed.
Get the biggest memory you can afford that will work with the system and record at the highest resolution. I have used SanDisk 128GB MAX and PRO Endurance in very hot environments successfully. I think Viofo can go up to 256GB.
As I had worked in commercial electronics for ages, I've also learned to leave a good-sized loop of slack for the wires above the headliner. Minor adjustments aside, heat variations can be extreme up there and the vinyl-sheathed Viofo wires are the cheapest possible grade... Give yourself contraction room, even in Southern California.
Also, and this is coming from a guy who's 6'3"+, I put the camera closer to center by putting it on the driver's side of the mirror with all the Toyota safety camera stuff on the passenger's side of the mirror stem. I want as "centered " of an image and the camera doesn't obscure that much because of the mirror location. On my 2014 SR5, I put it to the left and it was perfect.
From the second week of having a dashcam system, we caught numerous "issues" on video. The first few were other people's accidents (including a freeway accident that I linked an unlisted RUclips video over to the highway patrol). Then my family had three collisions in 11 months, the most recent happening earlier this week (of this post). The front and back cameras made a world of difference. The at-fault accident was even helpful because I was more comfortable that my child wasn't texting, rather not remembering my training. Oh, and that recording of the at-fault is also good because somebody who was involved claimed injury but is clearly shown throwing a temper tantrum. An act that wouldn't have been possible if he was truly hurt the way he was claiming... I'm sure the size of the financial loss influences future insurance rates, so even bad video is good to have sometimes.
My recent accident was a guy who was drunk, playing with his phone, tired or really stupid. His wildly varying speeds documented then a slow, unsignaled, drift into a pseudo pit maneuver into my car. When we talked on the side of the road, he asked why I braked in front of him... Keep telling that story, dude, please keep telling that story... My insurance company had the video, GPS coordinates, my speed and his unstable driving all right there within a few hours of the accident. It even made my telephone calls shorter because they didn't need to take much of a statement.

Hi thanks for the video is very helpful! Which fuse did you use for ACC and Battery? I can’t get mine to work

    • @OtzleeExplains

I bought a fuse tap and used two of the fuses on the lower driver side kick panel. I just used a tester and chose one, no particular one

Thanks for the help but on 4:00 of the video I got confused. Another fuse tap magically appeared in the video and got no info about it. You jumped straight to checking if it turned on. So you found a red constant power fuse but what about the yellow wire?

    • @OtzleeExplains
      @OtzleeExplains  2 года назад +1

Yellow wire was ignition (only on when car is on) I tested the fuses underneath to find one that turns on when I turn my ignition. Some of the fuses are constant and some are ignition. You want one of each for the hard wire

How did you end up mounting the rear camera? Debating between the same VIOFO, the single cam model, or a garmin

I don’t have a volt meter, is there a way that you can tell me where did you install the fuses? Im also have the constant power / wire connection, hope you can help

I used an add on fuse and tapped any constant fuse. You should really get a volt meter to be on the safe side.

I used a test light to find my constant and ignition fuse and just added the add on fuse splitters
