Talk to any Trumpeter, and they'll all tell you how sad they are today. Morricone's scores always had brilliant, challenging, witty trumpet parts, for he, himself was a Trumpeter, and understood the dynamics of the instrument better than anyone else. This piece, is one I've performed so many (many many many) times, and when I first performed it, it was pretty new, maybe only a year or two since it'd been arranged and I was barely a teenager. I remember the first few run-throughs I thought "he's using the lower register ...... " and that's such a relief because so much of what a trumpet performs is in the high mid to upper register. Then by the end was dying .... such a labour intensive piece to play. I remember being naive a thinking there was a mistake in the arrangement with the dissonant notes, but it was always meant to be that way .... And now, it still brings me joy. Always the finale piece, because it would destroy our chops. A bit like The Beatles doing Twist and Shout last, because it would kill John Lennon's vocal chords. Not just challenging, but so much fun, the destroyer of chops. But today, it's just for Morricone.
I was chuffed to have performed 1st clarinet today performing this. Was only handed the music 2 days before to look at 👀 not play! Felt like a pro and thankfully A new favourite piece for me. Stunning musicality 👏🏾 Well done sir 🎶🎵 👏🏾
My goodness. What an incredible, majestic piece - awe-inspiring, incredible and marvellous. The very manifestation of greatness. Shame on you who have no other words in which to describe this than "Aw, this is EPIC!!!" It is so much more than that. An honour to be able to play this at HSWB.
