      It sounds like you have the hose on the wrong side. The hose needs to be attached to the filter intake, not exhaust.

    Thanks so much for this review. Our pool is also a Doughboy = 12 by 24. So happy to see this type of cleaner works in the same pool that you have. Ours is going on 15 years, and still looks great, original liner and all. Replaced the pump/filter 3 years ago due to the bearings wearing out. New(er) pump is also a Haywood 1 HP with cartridge filter. Just purchased Wanda based on your review. Hopefully my manual vacuuming days will be limited soon.

    June 29, 2022. Greetings from Poteet, Texas. I love the part where you show us how she works under water. I just got one. Mine doesn’t move that fast. Maybe my pump is too weak or maybe I have air in the hoses. I need to trouble shoot…

    I converted mine to work in an inground concrete pool. Basically you swap out the feet which are easy to find on the web. The only problem that I have with Wanda is trying to lift it out of the water. When it is full of water it is quite heavy and there is no place to grab it. If you grab it by the hose, the hose might come off. If you grab it on the bottom the black rubber ring will pop off although it is not too difficult to replace. If you grab it by the tail it will also come off. I got some water proof glue and glued her tail on. I now have a cheap cleaner that is essentially the same as the much more expensive inground model.

    I just rcvd Wanda today and was so excited. However, when I got ready to hook her up, I found that her hose was way to big for my Summer Escapes vacuum adapter for the skimmer. Do you happen to know what size the hose is? Wondering if maybe I could find an adapter for the hose. The manual vacuum hose I was using before is too small for Wanda. I think the summer escapes is 1 1/4, but not really sure about that either. Thanks in advance if you are able to help!

      There are adapters made to go up and down sizes, most pool supply stores should have the correct adapter for you. I'd bring a section of your hose and a picture and measurements of your current adapter with your.

If I'm gonna make it thru this season (4) I've got to replace the gear mechanism box. I have a feeling my experience is more the exception than the rule. Most non handy people can count on buying one of these every 5 years from anywhere from 150 to 190 bux. I do run mine a lot I admit. Still not so bad considering the others are so expensive.

Our new pool is a doughboy 20ft x 12ft oval pool, we're running a Hayward filter/pump on the pool. The doughboy pools are much more rugged and made to last decades. How strong (in hp) does the filter need to be to run the vacuum? I am pretty sure I have it hooked up properly but there is almost no trace of suction at the end of the hose that is in the pool-or at the underside of the vacuum. My filter pump is only .54 so less that 1. (It is the pump that came with our pool.) Do you think my issue is the weak hp? What is the minimum needed to run the vacuum?

      Wanda itself doesn’t have a filter, large debris is caught up in your skimmer, the small debris is caught up in your pools filter. They do sell a separate in-line filter that you can put in the hose if you wanna catch things before it makes it to the skimmer..

    Hi We are new pool owners and have a intex salt water sand filter. Do you know how we would hook up Wanda to this system? I will call Intex if you don't know. The directions don't tell you how to hook up to the filter system and what the filter needs to be set on. I'm thinking that you would hook the hose to the outlet in the pool and then it goes through the filter. The filter has a filter basket. We don't have a skimmer on the system like you do. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @DoItYourselfDad

      You would need to find a way to hook the hose from Wanda to the intake side of your filter. I've seen adapters that Intex makes to adapt hoses to their intakes. Just make sure your filter has sufficient flow to operate Wanda, there should be a horsepower rating somewhere on your pump.

    I literally have to play with the hose in the skimmer to make it work. If I just put it into the skimmer it does not pull. I have a 1.5 hp motor too. Once I play with it, it will work but I have to babysit it for like 15 min.

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  3 года назад

      Sounds like you aren't getting a good seal, 100% of the water should be getting pulled through the hose.

    • @maxpower2511
      @maxpower2511 3 года назад

      @@DoItYourselfDad Yeah just not sure from where. All the hoses are sung and I work out air by dunking each hose into the water too. Could be an issue with the unit as it has always done this but ultimately it does work.

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  3 года назад

      Are you still getting water coming in through the spill way into the filter box?

    • @maxpower2511
      @maxpower2511 3 года назад

      @@DoItYourselfDad Once it starts working no. If I just plug it in straight away I only get a small dribble coming into the leaf catch. I usually have to take the hose and hover it above the hole in the skimmer to start drawing air out of the line/bug for about 10 min then it will work

      I’ve gotten things stuck in mine which stopped the flow of water , connect the hose and turn on the pump, see if you get any water flow through the base of the penguin.

    What happens if air goes in the filter?

    • @DoItYourselfDad
      @DoItYourselfDad  3 года назад

      If that happens you’ll want to bleed the air out using the purge on top of your filter. You Don’t want to get too much air in there though, if you get too much air in the filter the impeller on the pump will start to cavitate and the pump could burn out

    I have “Diver Dave” (we changed his name a bit) and he DOESNT PICK UP THE DEBRIS on the bottom of the in fact he doesn’t pick up leaves in front of me! But when I walk away, he is ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS CLOGGED! I don’t understand? Why is he not able to get the leaves up and through the tube before clogging? I think @Haywayward should have made the hole bigger, this may cut down in some clogging!
    I also have a question…I’m new to this pool ownership with a dang black walnut tree so close!!! I wish they would trim it back some! If I had the means I would!
    The leaves disintegrated from last year (is what I’m told, but I closed it with no leaves), leaving a white almost powdery substance on the bottom of pool. Now Diver Dave can’t pick it up! I can stir up, but then it resettles…
    Any suggestions on how to get rid of it???
    Thank you in Advance!!!

      Diver dan should be able to get small to medium sized leaves sucked though. What size/hp rating is your pump?

    • @Lyssa_Inwonderland
      @Lyssa_Inwonderland 2 года назад +1

      @@DoItYourselfDad I know I have a Hayward and I have 2 center drains…so when I want to clean the pool I shut off the main drains and suction is great!
      The pump is only 3.5 years old and my Uncle said it was a “good one”. I don’t have the exact measurements right now. But diver Dave’s hole is so narrow that he has trouble not getting clogged. Also the fine debris he does not pick up! I bought a Dolphin E10 and I have been sooo IMPRESSED!!! The Dolphin E10 is worth every penny, and I can actually put it in the water and let it run its cycle, where with Diver Dave, I had to continually check on him and unclog him and it was such a hassle!
      The Dolphin E10 is a FABULOUS Machine so far…I’ve ran it for 4 cycles!

    DIdn't realize that this pool cleaner doesn't collect dirt in itself but relies on a pool that has something to collect dirt in. I bought a 16' pool from Walmart (red flag) this summer and have had nothing but problems. Bought this pool cleaner thinking it had some kind of collection thing inside it. Now i'm forced to buy the attachment that collects leaves and dirt before it reaches the pump.
