- On 2 September 1998, a fire breaks out on Swissair Flight 111 while in flight, damaging vital systems and causing the aircraft to crash into the Atlantic Ocean off Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, with no survivors. The fire was caused by faulty wiring in the on-board first-class and business-class entertainment systems.

How is this preparing you? If this happens you can prepare yourself. It's out of your control. Only thing you can do is never to step on a plane. However, this is so rare anyway, I can still peacefully watch these.

Snipers pointed at the cockpit would be very ineffective against the 1 inch glass. Even if the bullet did penetrate, because of the unpredictability of shooting through glass, the sniper might not even hit the target. But I guess they did what they could.
I wonder what kind of ammo they had at their disposal, GIGN has access to the good stuff and If they had armor piercing bullets then...
