As a faithful user of Alu Power at 23/22, I finally went to 20/19 and it’s WAY BETTER. I still have enough control but the main benefit is FEEL!!! It’s not like a board anymore and I’m hitting like a madman in a mission with it! Thanks for inspiring me to lower my tension from a video you made a while back. 🙏😎🎾🏆
I went the opposite direction over the years. 97 Vcore Pro 310 @ 55lbs. Kirschbaum Super Smash 16g. Used to play in the low 40s but found I had to slow my swing down to maintain control. Higher tensions allow me to swing freely and return with precision. Never any trouble with injuries thankfully but I gradually moved up.
Playing with the babolat pure strike '98 project one 7 in 16x19 stringpattern. I use both MSV Focus HEX 1.18 and Head Lynx Tour 1.25, always strung at 25 kg / 55 pounds (mains) and 24 kg / 53 pounds (crosses). Plays really well with both strings because of the power, pop and spin of the racket and stringbed.
Kirschbaum Max Power (🔴) is most stable/durable string I've used so far. Low powered as "Max Power" is about the player having to use his own power into the shot. Plays superb on heavyweight control-orient rackets like the Prestige MP 18*19. I'll use it at an upcoming local tournament at low 20s on a Wilson BLX 95 18x20.
@@whitemarble8051 2 differences: Max Power and 4G had identical dwell-time, but 4G was more powerful. Max Power 🔴 has much better snapback, while 4G notches quite quickly. Both great for tight patterns and flat hitters
I use the Babolat Pure Drive (2018) with Yonex Poly Tour Rev 17g at 46lbs. Open string pattern, ball pocketing, and not too much feel. I can counter punch, keep the ball deep, and the spin keeps it down. Also, great ball pocketing on volleys.
After having used a blade v8 at 58lbs, i changed racquets to my new vcores 95 2021 and had to go lower because it felt too boardy, then playing with 54lbs and finally, lately ive been stringing them at 45lbs, kinda love them rn. They were all full bed of polys from pretty unknown brands
I use Hyper-G and string it at 55 pounds. It plays boardy for 2-3 hours, and then there is a lot of tension loss, probably around 52 pounds and I can play with the strings for about 25 hours. I initially tried it at my usual 51 pounds and then with lower tensions but it was too loose for me after 8-10 hours and then found out from other players about the tension loss and they string it higher and then it goes to where they want it. I find that Hyper-G is a rocket launcher at too low a tension.
I use Rogers set up. Champs choice and the difference between 57/54lbs to 58.5/55 is noticeable. I use an RF97 v13 and able to control my harder swings. At 55 lbs, I really need to dial it down for control if I’m swinging harder. I feel I hit the ball more clean and crisp at higher tensions. I’m sticking at 58-59 lbs on my mains for now. No wonder Foe can’t win a GS. He’s playing at way too low tension on tour. Imagine if he plays in finals. That will come in play once pressure factors in.
Head Hawk at 45 lbs in a Yonex Vcore 98 2023. I've had really bad golfer's elbow in thr past and this combo has kept me healthy. I restring a bit more often than i used to as the vcore 98 can get a little wild without fresh string.
Pro staff 97 with full bed of RPM blast at 47lbs. Been using that set up for about 6 or 7 years. I like my set up and I don't want to go down a rabbit hole of testing different strings and potentially it messing with my head :)

Head Speed MP 2022. My level is around NTRP 3.0. At the moment, trying to migrate to a hybrid multi/poly combo. Current setup #1: Head Velocity MLT Black (multi) 16g mains @52 lb, 17g crosses @50 lb. Good way of maturing my beginner game. Experimenting Setup #2: Head Velocity MLT Black (multi) 16g mains @52 lb, Tru Pro Ghostwire (poly) 17g crosses @ 48 lb. Good way of maturing a feeling for poly (and acceptance for wrist and elbow) . Thoughts?
When I played with my Speed Pro 5 years ago I strung it with a poly around 28/27kg - went down on the gravity pro to 25/24: After switching to the percept 97 I went more down to 23kg. So pretty big difference. All with the same string Head Lynx Tour.
Clay courter baseliner over here i play with full bed of Confidential@50lbs. I honestly feel ok with my style of play with topspin shots from the baseline.
I’m using an ezone 98 with Polytour pro at 48 lbs. it’s good for the first 3 to 4 hours. It gets notched after that and you loose that snap back and control. I tried recently polytour pro on the crosses at 46 and confidential on the main at 48 and it was quite good. First hour wasn’t great but it got better after. This setup holds much better the tension.
i’m using toroline k-pop at 48 pounds in my pure drive 98. i used to be around 53-55 pounds about a month ago but have been trying to drop some tension after seeing it work for the pros
what do you think of toroline these days? I tried wasabi and another of theirs when they first came out a few years ago and liked it, but found that they did not hold tensions at all! Frustrating loss of tension within maybe 10hrs of playing? Can't remember exactly but it was quick.
@@ChampinOnEm they’re pretty great with ample spin and a surprising soft feel. the snapback and string movement is also impressive if that’s what your looking for, my k-pop string set up can be pretty precise directionally, but can sometimes be a little launchy (this could just be a result of me going for mid 50s tension to high 40s though). i would say the tension dropping is along the lines of what u can expect from rpm blast, pretty standard for a polyester. but aside from that, they actually don’t go dead very quick at all due to the slick coating they have which lasts longer than most other polys.
Hi Jonas, with a multi poly hybrid, which string in the main strings do you feel gives you better Spin and Snapback? And thanks for all your dedication and videos!
I use 48-50 pounds for HEAD Lynx Tour / Touch hybrid, but I drop it further during the cooler winter months (Australia) - I have tensions as low as 42 pounds, but the Lynx Touch string can become a bit launchy in hot sunny weather at that tension. 42 works well for full bed of Lynx Tour. My racquets of choice is Prestige Pro (2021) and Speed Pro (2024).
I enjoy your videos very much and find them informative with great attention to detail. I have a question regarding the variance in tension between mains and crosses. Generally most pros have a variance of 3 lbs or so lower in the crosses but some have the set up in reverse, i.e. 3 lbs more in the crosses. Could you comment on the virtue of either set up? Many thanks...
@tennisnerd do you recommend lower the tension in a high altitude city like Bogotá? I'm curious about what's the lowest tension used by a pro in that conditions
I just strung up my technifibre tfight 300s with klip natural gut in the mains and wasabi x in the crosses at 55/50. Immediately love it. Will try lower tension next string job, I figured i should go higher with a gut/poly hybrid after coming from a full bed of poly at 48lbs. I guess I was wrong!
im currently using a percept 97... i played most of my junior/college carreer at 55-59 lbs using whatever string (hyper g for the last 4ish years) since about 2 years ago i started lowering tensions from 59 to 55 and now testing and liking 51lbs rpm blast. gonna try restring zero and the wasabi's on the same tension next
Still in the test period, now String Project Sirius @ 22/21 kg on a frame and Head Hawk Touch @ 24 kg on the other. I love control and to swing big on clay, but 24 is too much, and next test will be with a less powerfull string at lower tension. Racquets are the Gravity Tour, love it.
2024 Pure Strike 100, 17 gauge Volkl V-square at 47M 50X. My kid's setup, and she's 15. Her go-to strings are the luxilon alu power but off season (colder temps) we wanted to try something softer with good pocketing and spin, like the V-square. (My main concern for her is potential wrist issues going heavier on tension. Control at lower 47x50 bviously not as great as with 53+ but want to avoid injuries.) Tried multi but it doesnt last more than 2hrs the most.
Full bed of poly often end up notching and lose tension fast. Recently, switch to poly and multi 53/55 pounds, good spin and tension maintenance. String several rackets in the summer time could often last me through spring next year.

Wilson Shift, Poly ploy hybrid, 52-54 in the summer and 48-50 in the winter. I like stiffer on light balls and a bit more pocketing with harder/heavier balls.
I didn't get on with the Shift @52 pounds when I first strung it. I went back to my Gravity MP @48, then I strung my Shift 300 @35 pounds just to mess about with a lower tension, and now I love it. I've added 8 grams to the hoop at 3 and 9 o'clock.
I use Luxilon Alu Power on 90in Head Prestige, 18 20, pre streched at 20% and strung at around 50 pounds. Lasts for a really long time and doesn't loose much tension.
Babolat Pure Strike 18x20 gen3 with Pro’s Pro Red Devil 1.24mm at 52lbs reference tension, it feels great after an hr of hitting and a bit of tension loss and bedding in. I’m probably gonna drop down to 1.19mm gauge soon as the summer comes around as I find it feels more lively and responsive in warmer weather...
Full poly depends on which racquet i use but between 42 and 48 and depends on what poly. When ive used gut hybrid or multi hybrid in the mains i will go up to 52 mains and 48 cross.
Been playing with a speed mp with either a full bed of hawk touch 17/18 (usually 17 but it’s been hard to find recently) or a hybrid throwing velocity mlt 17 in the crosses. 48 lbs
im playing a pro staff v14 with tour bite @ 58lbs. i still have a blade that i wanna try with element rough @ 40lbs. pretty drastic change i know but one of my fav players atm Kovacevic plays with blade alu roughat 47. so if i like it ill start playing with that
New topic video: How different sports help with movement in tennis. How soccer, skiing etc has helped with footwork for tennis players. Playing with PureAero 2023. Right now using HyperG (16) at 22.5/21.5 kg (49.6/47.3 Pounds). Works ok for hot air balloon. Will probably go up (0.5 or 1 kg) in the summer.
360+ prestige mp went from 25 -25kg with very stiff pro's pro string to 23-23kg head hawk and it took some time to get use to but i really like it, finally i can get some power out of the racket without just trying to swing for the heavens. Probably won't go any lower but if any body has some recommendations i woud like to try some other polly strings that dosen't cost a fortune. BTW. Love the videos.
Wilson Pro Staff 97 v13. Mains=Luxilon 4G Rough, 56lb. Crosses=Wilson NXT Control, 56lb. Because tension drops anyway after 1 hit I can't bring myself to come down from 56.
Two Ezone 100s (2020) strung with Solinco Hyper-G Soft at 54lbs/52lbs with green organic asparagus rubber bands as vibration dampeners. All good things with this semi boring setup 😊
use to use blackcode 4s at 58-60ibs(highest being 63ibs) but now use same string at 48ibs although i'll be upping it to 50ibs for the start of the summer league season.
Yes, I know that this is a bizarre question. Been playing with a Blade V9 16x19. Looking at it compared to the 18x20 (and I know it's not designed for this, but the grommet is designed for a tie-off) is there any "damage" reason why we can't string one more cross in the space at the bottom to test out as a 16x20?
I play with Toroline Wasabi on my VCORE 100 at 47/44 lbs and I love it, meanwhile the other players in my club want their string at 55-60 pounds lol I've convinced a couple to go down but it's an ongoing fight
Imo when experimentation with tensions we should do it more drastically. For example if one strings @55 lbs normally, why not try 45 to instantly feel the difference? It that’s too uncontrollable, then dial back a little.
Technifibre TF40 305 18x20 strung with Lynx Tour 17 gauge at 49 lbs. It takes around 4 hrs of play to break in and then plays consistently well for me for around 30 more hours. After that it seems to lose spin potential and control and also uncomfortable to hit.
TN community: what's your favorite power string? I overspin the ball and struggle to get depth, currently using babolat rpm power at 52 on a speed MP auxetic
Doesn’t Thanasi Kokkinakis use the Yonex Ezone 98 custom blacked out version?? My setup is Yonex Ezone 98 16x19 with 8g’s of Techifibre lead tape at the 9 & 3. Strings: Dunlop Explosive Bite 16g Tension: mains @ 53lbs, crosses @ 55lbs
It seems based on different opinions and reviews that there aren't many downsides to lowering tension. Specially for non hi performance players, considering the advantages
In a way. I have used Hyper G at low tension with major issues and then other strings at 56lbs with no issues. The string choice still trumps the tension I have found
@@jean-pierreuys1554 I would't disagree mainly as the string gives you the feel and pocketing you're looking for. However, at the wrong tension, the right string could become a pain. And of course, there's the case that a particular string can be a dream in one racquet and a nightmare in another. Simply put, it's best to fully understand your racquet's characteristics (including layup) first in order to realise what string at what tension suits it best. Otherwise, you'll just be chasing your own tail and your elbow will get mad.
@jean-pierreuys1554 previous string was Poly Tour Rev at 52lbs and was not liking it. Was stiff and made my arm hurt. I went with the sync at 48 and the arm pain went away. Still great control and on demand spin. Also been great on my one handed.

I would agree with you if you had said 60 lb, but 50 lb is not that high. Besides amateurs have less control than pros so they would get more use out of a higher tension than most pros (unless the pro is a very flat hitter).
Most recreational players don't re-string their racket for months & months. So this obsession with Tension is utterly ridiculous. Because your tension after even a couple hours of hitting isn't what you think it is. Just hit the courts and have fun. We all need to work on improving our techniques than blowing all this HOT AIR about tension, strings, grip size bla bla bla lmaoooo
Either you are interested in this stuff for your own amusement or not. If not, let people who are, do their thing. And players SHOULD restring their racquets more often, which is a problem. We should obviously all prioritize technique over gear. Most people know this.

Been playing with a speed mp with either a full bed of hawk touch 17/18 (usually 17 but it’s been hard to find recently) or a hybrid throwing velocity mlt 17 in the crosses. 48 lbs
im playing a pro staff v14 with tour bite @ 58lbs. i still have a blade that i wanna try with element rough @ 40lbs. pretty drastic change i know but one of my fav players atm Kovacevic plays with blade alu roughat 47. so if i like it ill start playing with that
New topic video:
How different sports help with movement in tennis.
How soccer, skiing etc has helped with footwork for tennis players.
Maybe, do a side by side of sprinting on a soccer court and sprinting on a tennis court.
I’m really curious because as a mom of a 10 month old, as much as I would LOVE to put my baby into tennis, I’m actually thinking about putting him into soccer first to help with his tennis footwork
Thank you 😊
Good idea! Jannik Sinner would say slalom :)
I agree with js. Skiing is very good for tennis. It improves a lot your stability.
Don't forget hockey!
Combines insane combination of movement, movement, stamina, and hand eye coordination
(55-55 lbs) to (51-51 lbs)
Nice frame in the machine., It is one of the A.A frames?
edit: 12 seconds after my post you actually sa it is the A.A. frame 😅😅
I use Wilson Pro Staff 97 v11 autograph (350 g unstringed) with Solinco Poly Fire stringed at 52 p
RF usually somewhere between 60 & 63
Confidential / Big Hitter Silver @ 60
Big Hitter Silver 7 @ 61/62
use to use blackcode 4s at 58-60ibs(highest being 63ibs) but now use same string at 48ibs although i'll be upping it to 50ibs for the start of the summer league season.
Any ideas for a good string for serve and volley type play, around 5.0 level?
interesting tour bite combos on there, tour bite/gut seems interesting, any thoughts on why this would be done?
Blade 98s V8. Main-multi 44lb and cross-poly 42lb
Are you doing a review of the Wilson Blade Pro v9 16/19 ?
Also are any pros actually playing that pro version ?
Imo when experimentation with tensions we should do it more drastically. For example if one strings @55 lbs normally, why not try 45 to instantly feel the difference? It that’s too uncontrollable, then dial back a little.
Head Gravity MP - 43 lbs - Wilson NXT 17
Technifibre TF40 305 18x20 strung with Lynx Tour 17 gauge at 49 lbs. It takes around 4 hrs of play to break in and then plays consistently well for me for around 30 more hours. After that it seems to lose spin potential and control and also uncomfortable to hit.
0:54 I watched Kokkinakis in Houston he’s still using his ezone
TN community: what's your favorite power string? I overspin the ball and struggle to get depth, currently using babolat rpm power at 52 on a speed MP auxetic
Doesn’t Thanasi Kokkinakis use the Yonex Ezone 98 custom blacked out version?? My setup is Yonex Ezone 98 16x19 with 8g’s of Techifibre lead tape at the 9 & 3.
Strings: Dunlop Explosive Bite 16g
Tension: mains @ 53lbs, crosses @ 55lbs
I still use the Luxilon Smart with 40-45lbs. So much easier for my arm and generate power. It's a shame Wilson discontinued this string.
It seems based on different opinions and reviews that there aren't many downsides to lowering tension. Specially for non hi performance players, considering the advantages
You need to have the poly in the main and multi in the crosses to still get spin right? Multi in the crosses just helps for feels and softness?
Not always true.. easy snapback with softer string on the mains.. a notched multi on crosses grabs the poly..
I play Wilson Blade V8 with Solinco tour bite 22 / 21 kg
Have you ever tried lower main tension than the cross? Probably 48-50, what would it feel like tho? I'm really curious
More boardy feel, lower launch angle.
so it doesn't feel good at all? @@user38479
If you want to know what string and what tension suits you best, just ask your elbow :)
Otherwise, you'll just be chasing your own tail and your elbow will get mad.
go lower tension and create a damp trampoline string bed, I highly doubt that setup helps anyone in the recreational level
Is Alex Michelson's Aero the 100 or 98? Any idea on his customization?
100
I play with 25 kg gut in the mains/24 kg polyester rough in the crosses
hello. i enjoy your channel and the content. for some reason i can barely hear you and i have my pc volume high. thank you.
Oh sorry about that, sound mix is a little low, will fix for next video
Percept 100D with Restring Sync at 48lbs here.
How is that working? What was your previous string and tension? I have bought sync and not sure if I should drop tension. Heard its lower powered.
@jean-pierreuys1554 previous string was Poly Tour Rev at 52lbs and was not liking it. Was stiff and made my arm hurt. I went with the sync at 48 and the arm pain went away. Still great control and on demand spin. Also been great on my one handed.
May as well have put them in order xD
Blade v8 16x19 multifilament wilson comfort at 57lbs. I string that or 53lbs ptp
43 lbs Poly tfight 305 iso
Is it true that the ATP top 10 are not many players playing with Alu Power anymore?
It is not as popular as it once was in the top 100
Which strings does Shelton use? Can not see it :(
Yonex Poly Tour Strike / Pro hybrid.
I string my racquet with natural gut at 25 lbs.😊
47 for 4G gonna try SIlver 7 Tour soon
I use Hyper G at 55lbs in my vcore 98, and Head Hawk touch 61lbs in my Dunlop Black Max pro. 61 is too high haha
Great Video Thanks . I like synthetic gut ( yes I am old school ) but realize I am losing power and like control. I do not like poly. I am thinking of doing a mix of synthetic and multi together any suggestions. Also I string my own so synthetic for mains and multi for cross ? Thanks
How about Head Velocity MLT (multi) mains, Diadem Evolution (Azure Blue) (syngut) crosses?
@@rogeriocrispim thanks for the suggestion
Blade 98 V9, 16x19. Head Hawk Power 45 mains, 43 crosses.
I am playing with ezone 98 tour with babolat hurricane rpm strings. My tension setup is 23/22 (kgs).
Really enjoy lower tension!
There are no right and wrong for string tension. I would say use the lowest tension that you can fully control the ball. The more free power the better.
45lbs with gut. Wow! You gotta be able to control that.
Baseline spin at 44 lbs
Tecnifibre Triax at 45 lbs.
Weekend warriors might disagree but your arm health should be a priority and not to stringing 55-60lbs like a maniac
21/21 kilo prostaff rf 97
Blackcode tecnifibre
I bought ravjets . The obe itm i niticed or say its feeling is westrrn made racjets like certain say geography surfaces. The strungs then match the csrbon of tge ravkrt frames stem. Don’t like lower tensions
Same same
Thanks for that info. What's your preferred brand of toothpaste?
Same.
Nothing less than 55lb / 25kg, full poly.
A full bed of smooth poly at 25 lbs feels like butter
Its an acquired taste.
48lbs k-pop
Those who say I can't control low tension really mean to say "I hit flat as hell and can't generate enough topspin".
It seems at the highest level you have to compromise control to combat unlimited power. Kokkinakibwith the aero is unseemly and excessive
Any non ATP pro using a tension above 50 lbs is kidding themselves…..I don’t care what anyone says.
Dunno why you’d say that. My TiS6 is perfect with 4G 1.30 at 72lbs.
Using PA23 and msv swift at 18kg
Why is everyone posting their set ups? Nobody cares
the man literally asked us to do so at the start of the video, why are you angry?
I care!
