Battle brothers is one of the most impressive games I've seen in years

BB for me... the art style, the strategic depth, the punishing nature of it, the replayablility.... it's such a master piece

Haven't played the other two, but Battle Brothers is hands down some of the best money I've ever spent on Steam. Oddly, I'm usually really into modding games to taste but I can't really bring myself to modify Battle Brothers radically because the balance, design, and focus are so tight that it doesn't really need it. That's always impressed me. I'll probably be adding another one of these games to my library soon. Just a question of which one lol

I haven't played the other two, but Battle Brothers got my vote. Everyone's talked about the combat, my biggest vote for this game is the music and sound design. Hits sound swift, decisive, and lethal without being too gaudy about it, it just adds to the realism and brutality of it all. Death sounds are visceral and gutteral, I love it. The music is just a banger, they add so much to the atmosphere.
Another big plus is orcs as an enemy, this game does orcs such justice. In Battle Brothers you do not fuck with orcs, they will carve the meat off your bones if you aren't careful. You better be prepared to face orcs, or they will chop your team to pieces.

I love BB, I like Wartales, and I tried to like Iron Oath. But the fact that I am "trying" to like it already says something.

Fun video, thank you. I liked Wartales a lot and while I am nostalgic for battle brothers, id have to give nod to Wartales if I could only play one on a desert island. Enjoyed battle brothers because positioning or numbers advantage, height advantage, and gear advantage felt really impactful. If you fight without those you're in a 40/60 win scenario where over time you will lose out in campaign. But apply those and you're in a 65/35 win scenario. 25% hit increase at tactical or scenario win after applying advantages to your gameplay feels impactful and is impactful, but a third of the time they'll crit your one of your dudes or it'll be a losing encounter so its really about playing the long game. I enjoyed wartales for feeling more alive, more diversity in different character progression profession and skill combinations, little more direction/purpose, fun mini games, positioning and gear also impactful, and overall game polish. I love battle brothers and look forward to more from the studio, a solid winner during its time and for a flashback gaming day or two, but Wartales wins if I could only take or recommend one.

Battle Brothers should be illegal because it's a drug.

Battle Brothers are still the best in terms of gameplay.

yep true, wartales really falls off because it doesn't keep you on edge with with its difficulty which ii think is because BB has RNG and I REALLY hate to admit it, but no RNG and too much unit placement/turn freedom makes wartales combat a bit too predictable/"customizable" and therefore boring. Iron Oath is third by far. I couldn't really get into it bc nothing really struck me as interesting, sadly that happens a lot with modern games lately. may that be indie or AAA. I'm super happy to have gotten back to Stronghold with its Definitive Edition. it feels so good that have this feeling from 20 years ago, it gives me so much energy. and i really needed that

It was hard to pick a winner, but ultimately I picked the one that I wanted to keep playing longer.

Considering the other two were inspired by Battle Brothers tells you all you need to know.

I love Battle Brothers, but would have picked up Wartales too if the DLC was more about adding to the world already available instead of pirates.
What continued to sell me on BB was that every DLC addon was an extension of the world and it all felt natural from the beast hunting (new creatures), the whole Nordic barbarian stuff as well as the Arabic motif.

i almost really like iron oath but I haaatee the darkest dungeon 2 system of having to baby sit the personalities of all the party members, make sure they like each other or half of the party hates your decisions while the other half love it, that's just more of a chore than anything else. that's why I like BB, they have personalities but its not too much to manage. the main focus is on the fun parts of the game, fighting, looting and trading. but ehh I still give it a try. hopefully its not too annoying to deal with

Battle Brothers is very focused game. It does few things (combat and company management). But it does them to highest possible standard.
While Wartales is clearly quantity over quality game: lots of auxiliary skills, but they’re mostly primitive craft/qta mini games, everything related to combat feels samey most of the time, world is static, etc. It’s like devs had a list of required features requested by the top management and dutifully went through it.
Iron Oath has some interesting combat features, although gameplay outside of combat is bit hit or miss.

I think its difficult to compare both games in that regard honestly. Wartales combat is not as in depth as Battle Brothers, but the sandbox aspects of Wartales outshine Battle Brothers by a mile imo. So if you want your focus to be more on battle tactics you should go for Battle Brothers, but if you like a more RP based approach I'd 100% recommend Wartales.
Not sure what you mean with the "feature requests by top management" comment, doesnt feel like that to me at all.

What's your opinion of Urtuk: The Desolation vs these three? For me, it feels like the fourth of this style of game but, like I suspect will happen with Iron Oath in a couple of months, it's barely talked about.

    • @cbh4kplays
      @cbh4kplays  10 месяцев назад

Haven't played urtuk but it does look like the 4th in this comparison. Also you might be right about Iron Oath maybe be forgotten by the gaming community.

Urtuk has some very good ideas and is very cool, imo it beats Iron Oath (but to me, IO is very meh).
But the issue is that, once you got the hang of things, it's more like rince and repeat.
I couldn't go beyond 60 hours, and I think I was pushing it to the limits.

Battle brothers is really good. But it had more time to develop, the mods are awesome too (legends still causes crash btw). I played like 10~15 hours of wartales and I liked it. But disliked a lot of things about it too. (for example the "adaptation" that occurs when you enter a side of the fight and suddently some allies disappear out of your team). I played about 5 hours of the Iron oath and didnt like it

Battle Brothers isn't woke and they never let themself talk into adding female warriors. That's why it's at least 50% above all others just because of that fact alone.
I'm just playing Wartales and my male Captain already tried to confess his love to my male Lieutenant because they fought as unit too much. Females run around swinging large two handed weapons in heavy armor and in both regions i visited until now, the leaders have female bosses. In the second region it felt like 70% female even at the lumber mill all workers were female. It's not a believable world and how the combat works is also inferior to BB in my opinion.
