for anyone who is in this position right now, *KEEP GOING*. It sucks right now to fall and have people stare and or laugh, but we were all there at one point.
when i first started i was afraid of table tops, skinnies, and any drop whatsoever, including just a couple stairs.
i would practice jumping and pretty much eat shit every single week if not multiple times a week in the beginning.
I started biking at maybe 13 or 14 years old, just taking the local beginner trails, and riding street as much as possible as well. I'd get laughed at every fall by hikers, old people walking their dogs on the bike trail, and even other kids who were just slightly better.
fast forward to the summer before i began my senior year, and a buddy of mine went to snow summit with me, and by that point i had gained enough confidence to be the cool bike dude.
i was able to hit the jump course at the bottom of the summit after taking on westridge, and party wave both on different runs. i thought i would be the only one to flop the whole trip, yet somehow i went the whole time without accident or issue. my friends whole family, literally, ate shit at some point on the trip. his brother even needed stitches over his right eye. we all start at the bottom of our abilities looking like awkward toddlers.
but the work and grinding is worth it if riding bikes is what you really want.
nothing can compare to the first cheers of random people i didn't know, coming from the lift line as i cleared the jumps on the course. i literally felt like superman or like i was in redbull or some shit.
there are some assholes in the community who will try and give you hate, just as in anything else in life. just ignore them. people who want you to succeed and have fun exist too. find them and ask them for pointers, or just for a riding buddy.
it doesnt matter what trail it is, if another mtb rider needs a partner because their nervous about their first blue trail, then ill be right there with them the whole time.
in fact my favorite trails at alot of bike parks are not actually the black diamonds.
turtle trail and skyline where two of the most entertaining trails ive ever been on. turtle trail has so many amazing berms its ridiculous. there are so many spots to let go of the breaks and just pin yourself sideways while railing a berm.
skyline is a cross country trail, not much technicality if you just ride it calm all the way down. The fun on that trail comes from how fast you push the speed, and how many of the sneaky features you can catch. theres jumps with nose bumps on them, amazing alternate routes, plenty of rocks and logs where you can launch into the air and skip a portion of the trail creating a new flow line.
this is by far the best sport that ever happened to me.
when i feel alone, the trails keep me company.

Thanks everyone but it is a bit to the story. Riding with the picture little one, at a bike park, a guess a big gully is the way to explain it. She drops in disappears. I give her a few seconds head not to over take her so I can keep up the speed to make it the next little hill. However she was stopped at the top. And in a very joyful tone said she almost made it up. I told her great job.
Problem is the trail narrows and she is off to side and there was room very high burm. Appling a large amount of breaks not run Into your own child is a great idea. So is tring to go around, and hitting a very high burm. With little to no brakes it works great.
As I was tossing my bike a picking crash point, avoiding some small rocks at the bottom of burm my bike lands on me. Left hand grabs near rear tire.
Now I need to find a spot to toss the bike while holding on to one very hot break rotor
