The almighty RUclips-Algorithm brought me to your chanel a few weeks ago, and I was hooked from the start. You bring fresh takes to the table and I appreciate your way of seeming ever so real and candid in your videoes. This chanel is a true palletcleanser from many other watch-chanels that either tries to hard to appeal to the masses, or get attention by desperatly exclaiming some obvious "unpopular opinion" for clickbait. Keep doing what you are doing, I look forward to many more uploads.
This channel is one of the better ones. He has some truly insightful thoughts on watch manufacturers and the status of today’s watch market. I enjoy junk channels like Nico Leonard, but I don’t learn much from Nico. He just entertains me. This channel entertains me while I’m also learning.
The purpose of this gold deepsea is a substancial bundle item for those dreadful AD and flippers to eat it up in the hope of getting the popular models, good job Rolex.
my initial reaction was this gold Rolex might well be as dangerous as the most dangerous diving hazard in seawater, that kills more divers than any other - a full catch-bag of scallops. But of course - it won't get wet.
Mike, I really consume a lot of RUclips; a lot of watch content too. Your channel is by far the best watch-related content creator (up there with Wristwatch Revival) I've ever discovered. Keep it up! You are doing an amazing job and I could totally see your channel blowing up. With the thoughtfulness and analysis you demonstrate, you are one of the few people whose opinions I would blindly trust.
Except that the BB54 is every bit as vintage, if not more, and has a lot less gilt accents. Also, there was never a coke / gilt numbers combination on any Rolex / Tudor.
Nicely done mate, you’ve covered off the “lesser” brands like panerai, zenith etc. I’m growing tired of other tubers simply covering off Rolex, Tudor and the trinity. Looking forward to your follow up. Cheers 👌
Please give the Nomos some time in your trip! Iterative, yes, but I appreciate the flooding of colorways in limited batches and pricing it lower than their normal tangente date. More brands should consider lower priced limited runs!
Give the brands hell Mike! I can’t wait for your report after you do a deep dive with each brand to have them tell you why their brand is different or unique to the competition. Not sure if you can film each brand, but I look forward to getting your unique and unbiased take on specific models.
Thanks for the update, Mike. I also think they're holding it back somehow. This Luna Rossa Panerai is by the way the first ever, I could consider for myself. Enjoy the show!
The watch that caught my attention was the iwc eternal calendar. The fact they may have solved that stupid leap year issue is awesome from a technology perspective. It would be cool if you could give your impressions of it in the metal
The main thing I like about this channel is it's watches for the rest of us. It's not about fawning over releases that only the 1% would ever hope to attain, or massaging the already inflated egos of the big watch manufacturers, it's discussing this interesting hobby from the perspective of the average watch lover.
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I've always noticed the bots in the background. I suppose Gundam kits are harder than watch straps. But Bandai kits are a step up from Legos!
Great preview. Have a fantastic trip and feel free to make a long episode or two on what you see. Also will there be more JLC and Oris at this show? Seems like a very thin release from both. I mean the JLC is magnificent but it’s a museum piece regarding my budget. Today was hardly the Christmas we often get. More of a Maundy Thursday 🤷🏻♂️
I'm interested in the new Grand Seikos. In the last year GS finally offered their red-wood-plank dial in a not-limited high-beat GMT (SBGJ273). And yes, I bought it immediately, as I didn't have a GMT and have lusted after that dial for years. Love moon phases. They're also very practical if you live near a lot of werewolves. That platinum Rolex was amazing. I can't believe I'm saying this.
Fantastic video as always, thank you. As a Grand Seiko collector for decades I am biased but I just wanted to highlight that their manual winding declination of their fabulous 9SA movement is actually something a bit more than just iterative in my humble opinion. Now they can offer hi beat dress watches that chronometrically outperform most of the competition - with on top of it an amazing Japanese refinement (great GS official RUclips video on that). Finally we can dream of a return of the VFA grade on that platform in the future. Enjoy Geneva !
Mostly concur. One thing you whiffed on with the BB GMT - 39mm and 12.8mm. So they listened to customers. And you said they had too many blk/plain options then rip them for going with the retro look. Your closing thought about playing it safe. Almost like they foresaw economies going into recession and decided not to waste $$$ on upgrades/new watches that might not sell in big #s. Enjoy the show. I’m going next yr since Tudor is going to be offering factory tours to their customers - will do both the same week.
Really looking forward to hear your opinions on the watches you see. That Laurent Ferrier is stunning. I really do think they make some of the best looking watches out there.
Great video, normally don't write comments at all, but absolutely loved this one. I just got myself Rootbeer Tudor December 2023, now bit worried about the price going down with this new release of GMT. Though, I was lucky enough to secure it for a very good price Pre-Owned. I do understand it's not about the investments (and I wear it actually), but always something I keep in mind anyway!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Agree with everything with maybe a tad more bias towards the IWC releases. I think they're striking a great balance between honouring the heritage while still creating something fresh and new, which I love most about watch making in general. Edit: I would rather get the zenith than the speedmaster even though I'm not a great fan of either.
Very quickly becoming the best watch RUclipsr, the honesty and neutral opinions are exactly what us viewers come for….. please please don’t change and become another IFL slave this year 😂
A good roundup of what to go and check out at W&W here Mike. This year looks quite a let down compared to last year which was a great show. I like the look of the UN Freak, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Thin, the Vacheron, the JLC Duometre, the Cartier Privé monopusher chronograph, the Chopard L.U.C Qualité Fleurier, the Lange Datograph, the IWC Perpetual, the Zenith A3684 and quite a few others. Looking forward to seeing them. I’ll probably be wearing my A384 as I wore my Z-Blue Milgauss last year and nearly EVERYONE is wearing a Rolex so if I hopefully see you can try it on my friend. As I say, hopefully I’ll bump into you but, if I don’t, have a great time! ✊
For me so far just the Tag Heuer panda blow my mind. Tudor and Rolex just made new colour variants. I’m agree with you with Zenith, they used to do divers so they can say that isn’t new, but the true is that they are know for they chronographs that now cost ridiculous amounts of money. For me that was a desperate move to sell some watches.
Hope you have a great time! Seems like an awesome experience! I do love a moonphase piece in silver. Its just timeless... Pardon the pun haha. If Citizen is there you might want to have a look at their washi dials and chronomasters. I think that you might like them! Stay safe and be blessed Mike!
Thanks for showcasing some things I’ve missed, I hadn’t even seen a moonphase in any other coverage. So far my favourite watch is probably the LUC but I’m not a dress watch guy.
This is the most accurate first impressions video I've seen yet. All the big watch youtubers are trying to drum up hype for obvious reasons. They know this year is a bit dull but can't say that
Atelier Wen is in Geneva as well during W&W. They flew out their guillocher and his rose engine to do live engine turning and also brought some chinese moutai liqour. They are also showing off a full tantaulum prototype watch that I think would be cool for you to check out.
I enjoy your channel a lot. When you are there could you do a little video on what the vibe is like on the floor? Also, if they taking part, could you look in on Squale, Steinhart and Longines. Essentially, because those are more in my budget.
On my drive home, I wondered whether we’d have to wait until the weekend for your coverage, Mike. So glad we didn’t have to! Enjoy your time in Geneva!
Excellent video! I too am interested in the 1908. Perhaps the new dial texture on the platinum version has added some depth to what was otherwise negative space. Also, the Cartier dual time looks beautiful, but curious as to how thick it is.
You nailed it. Pelagos 39 and FXD is the current era mil-sub/tudor sub equivalent. Not the BB. So not sure what they subdued the 41 mm further. The coke needed the no gilt, not the BB 🤦♂️
Thanks, Mike, for the insights. I can help myself, but the gold DeepSea looks exactly like a homage watch from Invicta. In addition, I will never understand someone buying a tool watch in precious metals. The German language has the precise description for this type of watches: Kitsch!
The tudor black bay 58 GMT looks good but for me I prefer 41mm. If it came in 41mm with jubilee bracelet then it's perfect 😁 The zenith defy chrono is also another watch I want to try on in person. The size is good for a 7 inch wrist like mine. If only it came out in titanium to separate itself from the other steel watches, I reckon it would stand out more in terms of positioning.
I understand your comment about a giltless 41 for variety but putting it on the GMT isnt weird to me. The gilt makes this watch and the BB58 original just great designs and very fashionably versatile. Removing the gilt for a model is fine but keeping it off all new models would chase trend instead of just making their best design for this new model. It is gorgeous.
IT's a very fair perspective. I recently had hands on a Monta - the skyquest which has a coke bezel with gilt and one without. For me - without is my favorite, but having said that the Tudor is ahead. Maybe not 2.000 dollars ahead - even with a metas movement but it is very good for sure😃
you are frighteningly accurate. The Raymond Weil, I thought I was the only person who knew about that 😂 I wasn’t to Sure about the white omega until I saw the bling Rolex threw out today .
The Panera’s subtle use of color shows a confident aesthetic. A matching pocket square or earring shape will please in ways consciously “unseen.” It goes beyond dress watch. Conversely ugly date dials, disproportionate anything, or uncomfortable bracelets have no business at these prices. Like plain language advocates battling (literally) killer directions spend time calling out shoddiness. Similarly praise those who get it. It will assist with evaluation and inspire smaller makers to do more.
As always good analysis, I agree with most of the points being made except Grand Seiko, a new (cool) movement and a slimmer and smaller (cool) case don’t seem that iterative imho
regarding the bb blackbay gmt with the gilt numerals on the red black bezel… looks like this tudor could be called the german gmt, causese three colours remind me a lot of: schwarz, rot, gold, ( black, red , gold) which are the colours of the german flag 😊
hello : all true , all well explained as usual… now i will bring the focus on a brand new model from hermes called the cut… even originally designed for women with 36 mm( but the ladies crap our watches too) men could consider this stunning puristic design… steel version with quick changeable metall bracelet and other straps , 50 hours power reserve , in-house movement , 100 m WR for 5.400, € even as usual some will find it too much,i would love to see what you think about this watch , maybe in a video ❤
Hermes - Funny you should mention it. They have been doing so many cool things. At some point we have to accept that they are not just a fashion house 😃
Btw , was today at Hermes in Berlin , guys should wait at least for a 38-39 mm , 36 mm is way too small, even for my wrist which is an average size, besides as often …the photos are stunning , reality is less refined and finish is on a max 1500 to 2000 Euro but not 6000 level… so my enthusiasm is getting down to a let’s say so la la impression … try to catch for us some watch hotties at Geneva 🍀✌️
Maybe I’ve been watching too many of your videos but my thoughts are surprisingly similar to yours after day 1. Rolex - the 1908 was the only one that caught my eye, the rest being largely precious metal options seem to signify a deliberate positioning choice or perhaps to divert demand from their ss options. Tudor - tame but overall solid, if only they slimmed down the opaline dial GMT. Not a huge fan of the gilt on the BB GMT but the reduction in thickness is welcome. GS - kinda meh, nothing particularly inspiring. Vacheron gold and green are nice. I do quite like that red on the Cartier Santos Rewind, and also I’ve had my eye on the Zenith Triple Calendar for a long time and will likely pull the trigger sometime next year. Safe travels and have a great time in Geneva!
I think they should have released an all blue colorway BB with the same updates, then at least people who bought a BB54 or Pelagos would have some incentive to make another purchase.
I would really be interested in getting your opinion on the Rolex 1908. I am one of those rare people who actually loved the Cellini and was excited by the 1908. This new platinum version looks stunning.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait until next year to get what we really want: that BB58 GMT without an overdose of gilt. Much live they have done with the Black Bay 41mm, which they have now made monochromatic (and looks frankly superb).
The Grand Sieko Kodo might be an interesting one to check out that stands separately from their regular slew of pretty dials. The Rolex 1908 is also high on my list, along with the more obtainable Chopard L.U.C Forest Green. I don't think I can justify two small second Chopards but you never know what the future brings 😅
Please take a look at Arnold & Son, Pequignet (was considering one), Gronefeld and F Constant. The latter produced some lovely black, white and blue dial roman numeral dress watches now with an LJP as opposed to their 'in-house' tweaked ETA thing. Be interested in the build quality of the watch and movement. Sadly, won't be there to buy you a drink , or three...Cheers!
One of my 2025 wishes: Saying Hi to Mike at Watches and Wonders and hopefully getting a few minutes of your insights as I would not be surprised if you’d have created your 50 or 100k by then :) I am just 7 videos short of covering your entire channel. Would be very happy if you could cover that gorgeous Patek and the new IWC. Find both of them very interesting. Thanks!
Moonphases - I've been on a hunt to add a moonphase watch to my collection, and have had considerations from high end (Cellini moonphase) to low end offerings, and just picked up a Citizen Tsuki-yomi, man I love this watch. Completely surprised, as I'm not a Citizen fan, but specs, features, and execution are remarkable. Cured the moonphase itch. So what will W&W reveal?
Mike thanks for your video - this is the 3rd video I have watched on this topic . . . my expectation . . . your insights will be more relevant and meaningful then other reviews. With watches it is more difficult to be creative because the item is small and has specific functionality. With other items there is more scope for . . . stop--people--in--their--tracks . . . creativity (at a cost), I could give examples buit this is a watch channel :-). I would appreciate any signs of creativity you can find in the watch world ! This may be the last year your can wander around with brands ignoring you 🙂
I might argue that JLC focusing on the Duometre rather than another Reverso is actually quite a big risk. It sticks out fairly in a class of models-with-tweaks for other brands, especially with that three axis tourbillon

That gold DeepSea is almost a satire of Rolex and luxury watches in general. Retro 80s in all the wrong ways.
The purpose of this gold deepsea is a substancial bundle item for those dreadful AD and flippers to eat it up in the hope of getting the popular models, good job Rolex.
Looks like an invicta 😂

@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch You have misunderstood me, in the sense that I would trust your advice on watches if I was blind. 😄
The Tudor GMT 58 is still a ‘58’ and vintage inspired, so I understand the gilt.
Except that the BB54 is every bit as vintage, if not more, and has a lot less gilt accents. Also, there was never a coke / gilt numbers combination on any Rolex / Tudor.
Zenith is the most interesting for me. And I agree, the Defy Skyline is supercool.
The Frederique Constant releases looks like they could be a sleeper hit. Some really nice designs there.
The Rolex 1908 with the guilloche dial looks a stunner !!
agreed. surprisingly, this is the best of all the new Rolex releases
I hope the 1908 does as poorly as the Cellini so it plummets in price like the Cellini lol. I love the 1908. Such a class watch.
absolutely 😀😀
I feel like Tudor is a year or two late with the BB58 GMT. Black Bay fatigue is real
They should've just gone with a smaller version of the regular BB GMT. That new 58 GMT is trying too hard to look "vintage", IMO.
It very well might be... 😀

The Czapek Promenade Goutte d’eau is particularly nice. Also I am enjoying seeing FC and Bulova making moves rather then running on auto pilot.

regarding the bb blackbay gmt with the gilt numerals on the red black bezel… looks like this tudor could be called the german gmt, causese three colours remind me a lot of: schwarz, rot, gold, ( black, red , gold) which are the colours of the german flag 😊
I baptize the new GMT Master II the "Black Bolt" as the character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics 😍
Great content!
Thanks 😃
This 1908 is gorgeous. If only I could afford it.
you and me both 😀
hello : all true , all well explained as usual… now i will bring the focus on a brand new model from hermes called the cut… even originally designed for women with 36 mm( but the ladies crap our watches too) men could consider this stunning puristic design… steel version with quick changeable metall bracelet and other straps , 50 hours power reserve , in-house movement , 100 m WR for 5.400, € even as usual some will find it too much,i would love to see what you think about this watch , maybe in a video ❤
Hermes - Funny you should mention it. They have been doing so many cool things. At some point we have to accept that they are not just a fashion house 😃
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch 👍🍀
Btw , was today at Hermes in Berlin , guys should wait at least for a 38-39 mm , 36 mm is way too small, even for my wrist which is an average size, besides as often …the photos are stunning , reality is less refined and finish is on a max 1500 to 2000 Euro but not 6000 level… so my enthusiasm is getting down to a let’s say so la la impression … try to catch for us some watch hotties at Geneva 🍀✌️
40% off new Zenith A384 and A385 at Watches of Switzerland Group in UK, you better get your order in. Just picked up the A384 myself.
Eeshh... That's a bargain 😀
I would totally love to see how your socks can be blown off in that gentlemanly tone. It would be physics defying.
lol. Funny and oddly inappropriate 😂😂
Group think 😂😂
I think they should have released an all blue colorway BB with the same updates, then at least people who bought a BB54 or Pelagos would have some incentive to make another purchase.
I would really be interested in getting your opinion on the Rolex 1908. I am one of those rare people who actually loved the Cellini and was excited by the 1908. This new platinum version looks stunning.
Grand Seiko sub-10mm high beat watch, is my standout. The future looks rosy 🙏
I wonder your take on the new Code 11.59 in rose gold. Look amazing in the photos! Enjoy W&W
Zenith please 🙏🏼
WIll do 😀
Please take a look at Arnold & Son, Pequignet (was considering one), Gronefeld and F Constant.
Thanks!
I’d love to hear you thoughts on the Bremont relaunch, please, Mike! Definitely a pre- and post-Kern Breitling dynamic emerging…
Just as you said it, my reaction was also ‘wow, this is a super lame year’ 😂
But solid video as always and look forward to in person impressions
Cheers 😃
LU Chopard has a rather nice new green dial micro-rotor three-hander that should be worth a look.
The platinum 1908 will be Bucherer ONLY. Agree?
Same for any future more complicated or precious metal 1908 releases (moon phase, chiming, etc).
A solid gold Sea Dweller... I mean, honestly. For what exactly? For what?!
To hang from your dive belt as balast, I think 😂
Reasonable perspective. Agree 😀
You must check out Arnold & Son and their new Longitude Titanium. It looks great, at least in the pictures I've seen
Excellent preview. Nothing really excites me this year except that Rolex 1908. Wow! Otherwise, mostly meh.
Sinn going to be there? I heard there may be a new 903????
