    The color tweaks are nice, but the much bigger thing for me was a way to set the parallax barrier offset to more precise values. I honestly thought "Super-Stable 3D" was anything but, but setting the offset to 4.5 (instead of either 4 or 5 in Nitendo's Settings menu) actually made it work flawlessly for me. Less yellowish/greenish? In conclusion - colors became more like on calibrated IPS screens (really looks simmilar to my QHD 165hz Fast IPS PC Screen when comparing same pictures on 3DS and PC) so I'll keep it turned on always. I'm using the rosalina version that comes with the extra "secret" brightness, same as when you plug on AC and you have a 1+ brightness level, that rosalina menu version makes it more brighter for people used to play on the switch oled and want the extra brightness, its not harmful since its the same brightness as the charger plugged, drains the battery a bit faster, and you can also make the filters to look more contrast (not ready to go like the video, but you can tweak on your own). Just reset when you turn off the 3ds or close the screen, so you need to go back to rosalina and reactivate the brightness and filter colors

    • @Unithrex
      @Unithrex 2 месяца назад

      I'm pretty sure you can save the screen filter settings by pressing the "save settings" option on the root of rosalina menu

    • @palleon
      @palleon Месяц назад +1

      @@ProphitDesigns He's talking about Starlight3Ds, an alternative version of Luma3Ds that has support for permanently changing the brightness level.
      Basically, the 3Ds screen has brightness levels between 40 and 172. The brightness level 5 of the 3ds is at brightness level 117 and level 172 can only be reached by plugging the 3Ds in, so the brightness of the 3Ds goes up when you plug it in.
      With this version of Luma3Ds, you can change the value of the 5 brightness levels in the 3Ds menu. If level 5 previously had a brightness of 117, it is possible to change level 5 to 172 and level 4 to 113, for example, in other words, having a plug-in brightness option at level 5, and the maximum brightness outside the plug at level 4. This change is made in Nand, so even if you delete Starlight 3Ds and go back to Luma3Ds, this setting will still be applied. It's important to have a backup of the 3DS and to use this option only a few times, as it could corrupt the Nand.
      In a nutshell, this setting can be made via the Rosalina Menu, but it doesn't depend on Luma/Starlight to work after being applied, it will be applied to the system's internal software, so saving the Luma3Ds “filters” won't make any difference and isn't necessary when using the permanent brightness adjustment(from starlight3ds)

    I’ve always felt like it’s kinda insane that Nintendo didn’t have better quality control with these displays and just stick strictly to ips on the more expensive models then adaptively work in the color accuracy around that it always felt very lazy especially considering you could end up with one ips and one tn display on your system

The system’s mix and match of TN and IPS screens always bug me as a person that bought multiple systems since they had multiple variants models and special editions and from my experiences the NA systems I have always had a warmer color palette, almost looking a little washed out, while two of my Japanese systems I collected have more darker colors and always felt more natural but the last system I bought before they got discontinued a NEW 2DS XL has a warmer display with a blue-ish tint giving it a darker color like my Japanese systems so I’m excited to try this out! 🤩

    The vita slim had similar issues before someone did a better job on the color profile in the homebrew scene as well. Glad to see the 3ds getting similar treatment with such weird timing. I was just playing super mario world last night, opened it on my vita and then when that wasn't fully charged, I decided to have a go at it on my 3DS which I hadn't opened in months. I don’t recommend doing this, as it will just make things worse-developers targeted the EOTF (inverse of the display’s gamma transfer function basically) of the 3DS displays as-is, so games were developed with that in-mind, not some arbitrary new gamma curve even if it’s more correct for standard sRGB colorimetry.

      I did not notice any more battery drainage than usual.
      As for whether or not it applies to all systems like NDS and GBA, I would have to do some testing but I think it doesn’t since the 3DS technically boots into a DS mode when playing DS games which is in a different isolated environment hence why you can’t access the Luma menu when playing DS games.

    • @iamdriy
      @iamdriy  2 месяца назад +1

      A quick glance at the Luma3DS source code, it seems that the color settings are essentially a LUT that is being applied to go from one color space to sRGB. This means that the color mapping probably takes on some polynomial form of a_n * x^n ... a_0 = newMappedPixelValue.
      Basically, that's just a long-winded way of saying that I don't think there is a way to quickly copy down the settings manually in the advanced mode.

    I have an IPS top display. Just tried it out in a few games and wasnt all that impressed tbh. It just sort of looks quite a bit darker and more red/orange.
    In most cases the OG unmodified colors made for a more pleasing/attractive image to my eye, though there were a couple of cases where the "enhanced colors" was preferable.

      I did this many years ago, one of my first attempts at taking apart a console/handheld. Had a second 3ds with an IPS top screen and pulled it out and put it in to my Fire Emblem Fates New 3DS. Both consoles are still working to this day, and my New 3DS is still worth over $500 with the top and bottom ips screens. It is really difficult and you have to be very careful but it's totally doable. If you can find a broken 3ds with a confirmed IPS screen (assuming the screen isn't the broken part) you can definitely switch them... but again, not easy.

    So I have a weird unique issue on this one. I have IPS screens on my display, just looking at them a certain way I can tell pretty easily (those of you who know the trick, you know)
    But system info identifies them as TN screens. And a different Homebrew application that identifies system information says that the shell for my 3DS is red. But I have a black 3DS.
    I guess replacing parts doesn't account for this

    • @iamdriy

      I'm assuming you're looking at 3dsident when seeing something like New 3DS XL - RED, the RED is not the color of the console but the product code for the New 3DS XL/LL lineup. I'd make a post on the 3DS_IPS_TN subreddit and see what others think of your displays, they might actually just be TN displays.
