It's pretty pathetic that Ironman just pretends that the PTO doesn't exist. All the mentions of "Milwaukee" and "Singapore" without saying what happened there. PTO has such superior broadcasts, Ironman needs to keep up
The way IRONMAN has commercialised the sport to the point where the sport is almost secondary is not doing much for the viewer experience and therefore not attracting many new fans to the sport.
@@davidchorpenning972To be fair there is ALOT of money in the companies backing the pto races, Warner bros is one of those companies. The Ironman series relies much more heavily on advertisements than pto.
....and the commentary talking about KB "knowing the rules" at the same time😮. Laughable. These privatesed sports, Ironman and Crossfit(I do crossfit myself) have a hard time making their events legit sport events.
Lionel's DQ was ridiculous, especially when there's footage on this stream of Kristian clearly crossing a painted centerline and receiving no penalty! IRONMAN your refs need much better training.
I think there was more to this then just poor training. IM makes their dislike of Lionel very obvious. Notice that their announcers literally will NEVER say a good word about him, even last year at 2021 worlds when he was doing good, they just kept doubting him. I suspect they don't like the way he represents the sport and wanted to ensure he doesn't do well. He was leading the chase group working with Sam just two minutes from the front coming off of a great swim when this happened. They shut him down.
It makes zero sense to apply the rule to only a few. It is clear from race footage that others did it as well. Never saw the age group race but suspect there was a fair bit of imaginary line crossing
Having raced it and middle of the pack age group biker, all I can say is there was a bit of crossing of solid lines and when it came to the imaginary line section no one was following it. By that point it had been 2 hours of solid icy rain and many riders were bunched up. Even a lot of riding two abreast through those sections. The officials were dealing with crashes by that point and not calling any infractions as they had with the pros and riders in the front half of the biking. Most tried to keep the drafting legal but it was all over the place because of the hills causing variability in speeds. The only real draft benefit area was on the flats with the winds. @@curtcoetzee
World champs becomes a joke when you give out dumbass penalties like Lionel got today. Imaginary line violation????? 5 min penalty and your day is done. Let’s hear from Ironman
Got my comment deleted, will try again IRONMAN. You are commercialising a sport to an extent that makes it an unpleasant experience for viewers. I guess that’s what you don’t want. Your race coverage is more like a 4 hours commercial for all kinds of brands. It’s ridiculous how you incorporate the vinfast performance splits like it adds huge value. Take a look at PTO and learn!
Just wait until Lionel decides to switch fully to PTO and Challenge Family after having enough of the corrupt bullshit penalties/DQ. Then 60% of their viewership will be lost.
Extremely disappointed in coverage. Firstly, where was full women’s race?! Horrible way to marginalize amazing athletes. Secondly, Ironman puts its sponsors way ahead of the athletes. We are watching because we love the sport and SUPPORT our athletes! BREAKING: Ironman isn’t only game in town!! #PTO puts athletes in front and provides better production for the fans. Acting like IM Cork didn’t happen, ref’s not consistent and then, literally a massive fan favorite is DQ’d. Announcers stopped mentioning Lionel and ZERO updates for something that by the RULES shouldn’t have happened. Get better Ironman.
Shame on Ironman for letting a 90 year old on a motor bike ride into cyclists and then trying to cover it up. Then penalizing Lionel for an imaginary rule and then writing a report that defamed him by saying what he did was dangerous and that he was trying to gain an unfair advantage. You deserve to be sued and to disappear forever.
There were a few times when the commentators didn't even know the name of the athlete they were watching on screen, just embarrassing. Imagine if a rugby or football commentator didn't know who all of the players were on the pitch, they probably would be replaced pretty quickly. I also think it's disrespectful to the professionals that are racing - commentators, that's your job so do your homework
4hr info-mercial, clueless commentary on performance and conditions, antiquated penalties given by unchecked referees... What a joke... When fans can give you time marks calling out better penalties organizers really need to evaluate how they do things... PTO for me as a fan and Age Grouper...
One rule for Lionel, and obviously a different set of rules for KB, disappointing. Looking over many of the names in this race it read like a second tier event. IM today is *nothing* like the good old days when guys like Macca, Stadler, Wellington et al were racing 😒
Why do commentators from the US or UK always pronounce German names wrong and in the English version?? They should do their homework and learn how to pronounce the names of the athletes correctly….
This sport needs to be more transparent in antidoping test, I won't mention names but some athletes are racing every week and doing great performances in different continents , different time zones, it seems that they are not fatigued at all , come on!.
yes coming from you the bathroom usage would be a good idea🤣, how people tell such much crap even more of what they actually do in the bathroom @@bikingdervish
Maybe IM should get rid of most of the motorcycles, give the cyclists the whole road then you can pass easier less chance of bullshit draft penalties. The bikes are frequently in the lane of the cyclist....wtf. This road coarse is narrow to begin with.
Congrats to the Germans - especially the impressive young WC. But this was a strange race. In true IM style: boring coverage. You can clearly see where the money DON’T go. The PTO will swallow this hyped over commercialised organisation. And as always with the IM judges destroy someone’s race on a whim. Ridiculous! PTO & Triathlon League has changed it to a another level spectator sport.
Disgrace how Lionels case was and is handled. Where is the good leadership, can't see it. And therefore, there is only one outcome for a organisation that can't show good leadership.
What happened Blum? Injury? The guy was spanking the whole field in these events just last year so curious what happened…or is triathlon really evolving that fast these days? 🤔
This was his 3rd race in the span of a week in 3 different time zones (not even counting Milwaukee), and he and almost all of the other PTO Singapore participants got pretty violently sick throughout this entire week unfortunately
Turns out the road he was on didn't have any official centerline, it was a narrow road without a centerline, but the race official DQed him for crossing the actual center of the road. What a fucking joke.
Reminds me how much I love how the PTO broadcast doesn’t cut away for redundant advertisements every 4 minutes

100%
Absolutely, it’s disgusting. 8 dead @ IM events this year, 3 in the last week alone.
Whatever.. gotta keep that rouble rollin’!
You would think with all the commercial breaks (the first one at 2:40 into the swim) they could at least get close to PTO prize money
The sport is going backwards. SC reigns even with the dross that is the ITU circuit

Lucy raced last weekend. Not fair to say anyone not in a race field would have won if they’d been there. Give Taylor the respect she deserves
