    You made my wife give me a proper stare! I was on the fence of upgrading my Ableton Intro to Standard for mastering parts of my music collection, and this video did it for me. Now I have to explain to her why dropping some cash was well worth it ;-)

    very insightful. usually, I'll get frustrated with vids like this because it's a lot of BS semantics, this vid was spot on.
    may I add 1 suggestion, when using your busy spot in your track for continued reference of sound, your control group,per say, use the loop function for precise reference. there was a moment in the video when the reference section veered off into another section, slightly off putting. however, fantastic video mate! cheers.

    easily the most helpful mastering tutorial I have watched, I have been studying this topic for three years and found some new tricks in this video I have never seen before. The stereo widening trick is amazing! One question though, what is the point of adding the limiter at the end of the chain if you're already reducing the output volume in the VU meter?

    • @juhoaineslahti3665
      @juhoaineslahti3665 6 лет назад +1

      Because that way it is even more precise to see and balance the Limiters peaks when the volume is about to hit the ceiling even by a tiny amount. That also helps with the overall balancing and helps to avoid distortions. I think that is the reason but not sure tho.

    Great video! Thank you dude. I'm still confused why you chose to do the vu meter gain instead of using the limiter gain? I just need to know why for my own purposes. Doesn't it accomplish the same task? Are you just doing so to be in VU units for your own reference?

    So like you're doing this to a completed audio track -- does that imply that its unnecessary to add effects to individual tracks of midi or samples? Perhaps I've been approaching mastering all wrong.

    Hello there,
    i saw this on KVR, and this has been my first attempt at learning what exactly mastering is,and i think you did a great job explaining. But I do have a question for you.
    You seemed to randomly pick a spot in your song at the beginning and continued to use just this one spot for this whole video.
    Is there any rhyme or reason to it that i didnt pick up?

    • @kezman74
      @kezman74 8 лет назад +3

      It was a busy section in the song that had the most instruments going. When stuff is quiet it's ok for it to be quiet, but when it's loud it needs to be controlled. You would definitely make sure the whole song fits well together, but honestly that's a mixing issue.
      Dynamics (Quiet/Loud) are important to the feeling of a song, so be gentle with your compression, let your track breath. Control the heavy stuff. Hope that helps :)

    I f*cking hate mastering- I’m just lucky to have a mate who’s really good at any mastering and mixing anything I throw at him.
    Just my opinion but mastering is a whole skill all on its own - and it’s hard to find someone who is good at writing, composing, mixing AND mastering... maybe I just need better software for this purpose, dunno ?!?
