  • In this video we go see Scott Richardson, owner of Richardson Performance in Pennsylvania to have our 10R80 Ford F150 transmission built to handle additional horsepower that we are about to throw at it when we turn our VMP Odin supercharger boost up. Scott has built 10R80 transmissions for Stang Mode and several other automotive RUclipsrs. A built 10R80 was a must to get us to the next level of horsepower with The Wolf, our VMP Odin supercharged Ford F150 5.0 Coyote. We ended up with massive heat damage in our stock 10R80 transmission that has just over 18,000 miles on it. Did we do the most damage to a 10R80 transmission ever?

    I have a 2018. F150 WITH A 2.7 eco Boost, I had my salesman find this truck for me for several reasons. I pull a camper, I generally go down the road 11,100 lbs and the manual suggests I can go 12,800. I currently have 111k miles on the truck and have had no major issues, my dealer removed the Fibre tranny cover pan and my temperature does not climb above engine temp, I live in wester PA so if you know the area I am not a flatlander.. I am an old guy and drive like an old guy, but when needed this truck will shit'n get.

    From the looks of the video from what I could tell the center sleeve in the CDF drum moved. Ford finally corrected that major failure point just this year, the 3rd version of the drum was released in April and a lip was machined for the sleeve to bottom out on, so it has nowhere to move.

    Unbelievable David. I'm amazed how you would remember to put it all back together. I'd be taking photos with every bolt and part I remove so I can remember how to rebuild it! I have around 780hp to the crank in my whippled 2020 10r80 GT. I have a performance trans oil cooler. I roll race once every month but never do burnouts. Its only a weekender (maybe 6000 miles per year: done only 9000 miles so far). You think the trans should last for many years to come or would I need to build it if I end up going up to say 900hp at the crank?

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 года назад +1

      It will go until it doesn’t one day. It will be better for roll racing if you build it. You can wait until it slips and get it done or get it done sooner and enjoy the extra hard shifts.

    I have a 10R80 Whippled Mustang around 620 horses to the wheels. It’s a stage 2 kit but I opted for a conservative tune. Done 11000 miles only trans is running great. It’s only a weekender and on the street it sees only canyon drives with the occasional pull (really no more than 5000 rpm working 3-4-5 shifts). Every 8 weeks I take it roll racing to the track and run say 60-130 10 times. I have an aftermarket trans cooler even when I’m into it through the canyons it won’t go higher than 200 deg. Only time it did get to 220 was when it was over filled by the shop after a service (I saw white smoke from the trans oil spewing out of the vent tube and on to the hot exhaust. Anyway I’m addicted to roll racing but not sure if I should ramp it up as I worry for the trans. Do you think another 50 horses would hurt the trans the way I drive it?

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 года назад +1

      I don’t think 100 more would hurt. I launched hard about a thousand times and did ridiculous Aussie burnouts every week for about a year to cool this thing.

  • @oscarmayer9823
    @oscarmayer9823 3 года назад +1

    I saw the damage from the abuse you threw at it but I didn’t hear anything about a bigger trans cooler. Is there going to be an off road style trans cooler for the wolf? I ran c-4 truck transmissions back in the day with over size cooler with electric fan.

    • @BackroadDriver
