    Looking at the guts of that transmission, and thinking about the design and machine work that goes into making one, I can't believe the transmission alone doesn't cost $100K. Amazing. Thanks for showing us what's inside.

    Some serious mechanical engineering with these transmission designs. SMDH over how complex and how people engineer this is totally mind blowing. As well, competent techs that can work on this are also well worth their weight in Gold!

    Wow David
    That was a roller coaster video.
    I am just a back yard shade tree wrench hack since I started working at a local auto wreckers when i was 12 in the 80’s and played with saw milling and mechanics most of my life. Was watching this vid and started feeling overwhelmed with that trans. I run a 4L60e in my chevy van and a th400 in my 66 buick.I usually don’t get overwhelmed but this is my first time seeing one of those trannies. Was really feeling down on my skills watching you, then at the end your explanation of how to take that trans and compartmentalize it clicked in my head and i got it. And it is great when the pros share their knowledge freely
    Thanks again for the great insight
    Cheers .

    Great stuff, yeah, I did many M1 tank transmissions, and many others, I'll be honest, I think the newer belt transmissions work better overall, I own several and the cars just feel a lot better, I do have a mustang with the 10 speed and to me it feels clunkier, the continuous up and down shifting just becomes a pain, it tries to stay on higher gears to keep rpm down for fuel economy and it bogs down the engine and creates droning quiet a bit. On the belt driven is very smooth up or down on the other cars. Just my 1 cent, cuz I owe the other cent to the IRS!

    My 2019 F150 has been at Future Ford in Concord CA. for 3-4 weeks with a 4th gear slipping. 1st time the dealer fixed was 1st gear shifting into neutral at apprx 55k miles and now 86k miles my 4th gear slipped and 3rd started to go just before i dropped off. The trans.overheated on me twice. i called dealer to let them know and becuase no dip stick i cannot check fluid easily they checked for me and said fluid was fine.... After watching your video i see now where the clutch packs are located and have much more info to talk to dealership trans tech about. Ford warranty will only let dealer do code check program and check and code check and inspect and replace parts for code. this is BS! I will be calling FORD customer service to figure out why the techs cannot do a proper repair job the 1st time.

      it's the result of throwing a bunch of power adders on the motors to already high octane cars and doing zero to help support the rest of the car. Or its people messing with the tuning and transmission who aught not to be, but neverthless, can't just increase power by 30% give or take and not do any work to anything else. No one builds anymore, they just slap something on the motor crank it up and break things.

    Where exactly are the gears in the transmission? I see a whole bunch of clutches and the planetary gear. I have a F-150 with one of these and it's been one of the best automatic transmissions I have ever experienced. The 8 speed in the rams and chargers are top notch as well.

    • @edwardmyers1746
      @edwardmyers1746 Год назад

      The "gears" are the different results of planetary gearset manipulation. Planetary gearsets have 3 main parts, the ring gear, the carrier & the sun gear. The input usually comes in via the sun gear, and the output on the ring gear. The clutches are responsible for either holding, or releasing the various parts of the planetary. You really need to see it in motion to understand fully. But it's all about power flow, how it's being sent through the transmission, which planets it is or isn't flowing through, which thus creates a gear ratio.

    Can't they put a aluminum pan first screw up. With that much destroyed my as well get a rebuilt unit from Ford. Or a new one. Once the converter lets go it's over for the rest. Trans lines need to be cleaned new cooler just a mess. They don't need more than a a good 4 speed trannie. A converter on my drag car went out silver oil. Took me 2 weeks on and off to get all that crap silver oil off everything. Should have just junk it and start over would have been quicker. With many new tranny parts today with labor cheaper to buy rebuilt unit from the factory. I new when they came out with that 10 speed it was going to be a mess.

      @@thomaszinsavage2959they’re slower for sure. You can go e85 stock fuel system on gen 3. Its worth it, the 1080r is decent for bolt ons. If you have the money to go past that idk what the issue is if the trans fails. You got money

    As much as you pay for these new cars, it pisses me off to see them using cheaper materials. Plastic trans pan?? Damn...
