I'm writing this from El Salvador. My wife's family lives here and we are visiting. I've been coming here for 10 years, and although I've never felt unsafe here, the change in this country over the past few years is nothing short of astounding. High rises are going up, people are driving Audis and Jaguars on the roads. Many of the local corner stores have removed the bars across their doors and the suburbs are spreading outward into areas once deemed too dangerous. Gastropubs, luxury hotels, you name it, its happening here. New libraries, hostpials and public parks are being built. And yeah, for us, it's exciting to see. No country would ever willingly give this up to go back to terror in the streets. Thats why 85% voted.

I’ve traveled there every 16 months or so for almost 15 years. The difference is astounding. El Salvador has gone from trucks announcing the death of citizens in the Pueblo’s, daily shootings and robbery, extortion and savage violence. You now can walk around without fear, celebrate the night life, there’s people jogging on the sidewalks and kids now enjoying their childhood. It’s truly a beautiful thing to see. Nayib has saved the country from total destruction.

*What that dude failed to mention, in his awe and overt focus on the imprisoned murderers of MS-13/18th St (INSTEAD OF THE VICTIMS) is that El Salvador went from being the murder capitol of the world, to LITERALLY the safest country in the ENTIRE WESTERN HEMISPHERE.* This is an irrefutable fact! As a matter of fact, the entire country has gone for exactly 557 days without a single murder as of Tuesday Feb 20th 2023.*
*My family is from El Salvador. I follow the events by watching "Canal 10" (Salvadoran TV) online, and I keep tabs on the stats published by virtually all organization WITHIN THE COUNTRY and Spanish media. ... I avoid foreign/western media because of their overt propaganda and crying for the rights of vicious murderers whilst ignoring the victims and the atrocities committed for twenty five years, leaving over 120,000 dead people.*

We've had the prison industrial complex in the USA way longer than El Salvador.

The USA also already incarcerates more of its citizens than any other country in the world.

Well, MS-13 originated in the US prison systems. Once they were deported back to Latin America, chaos ensued there.

What few people americans don't know is that the salvadoran gangs came from USA and not El Salvador itself. Tatoos is an american lifestyle and not a salvadorean one.

@Trancymind yes I know I watch all the gang and prison documentaries. If I remember right, the ms13 originally started in LA as a protection force from the Mexican gangs already there. But they too became corrupted. Then after many of them got deported back to El Salvador they grew there.

"they're not gonna change" will always be assumption. it's also ignores the question, "how much has been tried to change them, what better ways exist"

I just got back from El Tunco, La Libertad in San Salvador! 💯 safe! It's a lot nicer than any major city in the USA!
