I’ve been an enthusiast for years and I can confirm this is 100% the first siren video I have ever watched. Thanks for uploading this all those years ago.
Oh, i went to that school as a kid. The siren only went off the first Saturday of ever month @ 1pm. There are several of these around the city. They were so cool sounding to me as a kid hearing all of them start up and end a couple seconds from each other.
I remember hearing this siren as a kid over in Berkley, MI and being scared to death at the sound of it. The tone of this one still raises the hair on my neck, but it's cool to hear that old sound once again. If these sirens went off you knew stuff was about to hit the fan, The modern sirens just don't have the tones of urgency these old ones had.
I can remember faintly when I used to live in Eastpointe I heard the last test of this thunderbolt, that was pretty much the first time heard a thunderbolt siren
i talked to the fire chief and he said this tbolt and veterans memorial tbolt r still up because the 2001's still need the control panels and he said the old sirens should still b up in march.probably the last time they sound.
@Cars2fan Chopper Level 5 is the standard factory setting when T-bolts were being made. A place can order a T-bolt to be set on which ever chopper level they wanted it to.
You can see two from Harper Avenue (service drive). One is closer to 7 mile (in Salter Park) going North, the other closer to 8 mile going South. That one is in somebody's backyard. I always thought as a kid that it must suck to have a tornado siren in your backyard, lol!
@Branden2732 Its a type of Thunderbolt model. I think B series were only made in the year 1980. All of Harper Woods T-bolts are B series but this one is the only offset one.
@MotocrossXtrem09 i talked to the fire chief of HW, and he said the thunderbolts will not sound off on test days unless the 2001's for some reason fail. so im guessing they are no longer online
There is no 1003s near Harper Woods or Grosse Pointe Woods. The only other Thunderbolt being heard in the background is Grosse Pointe Woods 4/5 Port running in alert signal.
@crzy4MAC12 Most Thunderbolts just have the regular rotator design but the main difference has to do with the blower types. A1 series had a bigger pulley system then the A2, B, and C series.
This is one of the best sounding TBolts on RUclips. Sounds like chopper level 6 on a 208V delta system, with 4 RPM rotation. The one at Bowen Elementary School here in Louisville sounds exactly like it, except it has a shorter wind-down.
@dockwellian45 The difference between a thunderbolt 1000T and 1003 is that the 1003 has dampers (solenoids) which aloows it to produce the hi-lo signal (alternating high tone/low tone). The 1000T lacks solenoids.

mhm, fake rumors are going out though saying it was scrapped and other rumors saying to was reinstalled in Holiday Texas because it sounds so similar to this siren. People these days
Actually this was made back in the 1970s along with the rest of Harper Woods Thunderbolts. I think this use to be a A series Thunderbolt and something must have went wrong and they decided to use a direct drive rotator which is right now the B series.
Ahh, the wind-down on this siren is just plain awesome. 3:03 or 3:04 when you hear the dual tone on it gives ya the chills. This is what I'm talkin' about! LOL
I am assuming about maybe 100 feet away. While it was sounding, I decided to walk underneath it just to see how loud it is. Then when it was winding down, I ran back to my camera.
i saw yesterday that this siren is still up along with the veterans memorial park tbolt, even though there is a 2001 bout 50 ft away from them. my question is that these r still powered on will they sound when they test them in march?
Yeah your right Jeb. Now thunderboltlover has a point about Derek's Thunderbolt 1003 video though. The fact is that 1003 in Derek's video was running underpowered compared to what a REAL chopper level 7 would sound like. So this one here is 5.
And Springfield Illinois had a bunch of the same until 2006, when the "twister sisters" went through, and destroyed some of them. Now, theres ASC T-128s all over Springfield, and some surrounding towns, but they dont compare to the "good ol' Thunderbolts!"
It's kind of funny Federal went back to the A series rotator setup to fix all the problems they had with the B series. All the bolt's around here are A's or C's.
First siren recording I ever saw. It was actually in a compilation that my dad found for Halloween, because I was gonna be a tornado for Halloween. Halloween 2015
Sounds almost just like Pontiac's Jaycee Park Thunderbolt. Rotates at 4 RPM with exact same pitch, except it rotates clockwise and is no a B series head. Sounds awesome :)
the removal of this siren (along with other thunderbolts) drove me sooo crazy that even though 2001 sirens look nice, I am starting to hate them for replacing those epic beasts!!!
I’ve been an enthusiast for years and I can confirm this is 100% the first siren video I have ever watched. Thanks for uploading this all those years ago.
First one I watched was his EOWS 612 video way back in 2016.
My first siren video I watched was the Milwaukee hurricane filmed by ramfett
The first siren video I saw was this one back in September 2019.
The first one I watched was the Civil Defense - Warning Siren Collection 1 video in 2019 I think
Same this is what got me into sirens

@@SuburbanStorms I don't mean the video I mean real life when their thunderbolts still existed
wow. such beautiful sound. such beautifal quality. i'm speechless
I think this is my 1st ever siren video I watched I was obsessed with this video Couldn't stop watching it back in 2018

That Thunderbolt actually was right next to the fence right next to the sidewalk, it wan't it the person's backyard
That bad boy has an awsome sound! Very powerful. Great vid Dan!!
This one actually moved. I passed by it today as I was coming back from Eastpointe. The Lochmoor T-bolt is still there too.
I love how you can see the middle of the screen jiggle when it winds up!
@JSU707 Yes the Thunderbolts in Harper Woods are still in use for some reason. It maybe like that for a while but I am not sure.
Wow, this was my first siren video i ever watched, i miss being a kid again.
this was the first siren video i have ever watched! congrats and im glad it was the legendary B-Series Thunderbolt 1000T from Harper Woods!

This is a 1000B
@@finneganthao9164 wrong
@@finneganthao9164no a 1000B sounds like a jailbar thunderbolt so this is a 1000T

I drive by both this one and the one located near the high school, and they both apear to have moved within the past month as if they were used

It's level 5
This thunderbolt has the most epic wind down....
In more recent recordings it's as epic as the 4/5 for used to have
I heard that Pontiac Illinois has the same siren and sound At jaycee park
In Jaycee Park in Redford, MI there's also a Thunderbolt 1000 there also but it's a single tone on level 3 not dual toned level 5
this is probably the most nostalgic siren videos of all time
@dockwellian45 The difference between a thunderbolt 1000T and 1003 is that the 1003 has dampers (solenoids) which aloows it to produce the hi-lo signal (alternating high tone/low tone). The 1000T lacks solenoids.
Oh holy crap this unit sounded great!
I am now a Thunderbolt fanboy... I crave to seek one out and hear it in person!
3:03 the shutdown echo is amazing
That's not an eco that another thunderbolt
This siren was amazing! I really love that shutdown when it stops rotating and the blower shuts off 2:59 is the best part.
Thank you Brandon. I love it too.

@bulldozer950 that's good it is still up, i was surprised it was activated for the june 5th test
@amtrak3501 Eric said to me that the 2001s are now pointing in a different direction. I guess they work now.
that 1000T is a nice sounding thunderbolt
It hasn't gone anywhere yet. What I meant was the horn moved meaning that it sounded off yesterday.
excellent wind up and tone!!!!
Well at least this thunderbolt is in good hands.

This is my childhood vid so this is how i meet tornado sirens and im trying to say the thunderbolt its one of my favorite sirens
This thunderbolt is working well so I wonder why a FS 2001 is just located 315 ft away. Hope Harper Woods does'nt take down this siren.
This siren now gone
Great video Dan, love the sirens at the end.
It was my 3rd birthday when this was filmed like wow
Nice video! Thunderbolt are my favorite. Also the 2t22 and 3t22
Geez, that must scare the crap out of the the kids at the school. Nice video!
Nice 4/5 tbolt ambince
Pretty soon this video will be 15 years old.
holy crap your right. this was the first siren video I ever watched, about 7 years ago now
happy birthday
@97Siren Probably not. I'll have to check it out sometime.
What was the “big idea” to replace it? Seemed to be working fine in this video.
Age probably
@TheFiremansavage Yep. Probably too much.

I think B series(offset rotator) were only produced for 1 year, hence their rareness
:(
Well at least the thunderbolt siren was still in production when they came up with the C Series bolts
Josh, your EXACTLY on the same page as I am. I think chopper level 4 is the scariest to me and thats what I am going to record next in Dec 6th. :)

That thunderbolt sound nice and healthy
This thunderbolt is in very good condition also sounds really rich and healthy
Most iconic siren video
Heck yeah it still there! Its not going anywhere in a few years.
@97Siren no they werent.
This is probably a stupid question, but how do you perceive chopper level? Do I hear a 1003 doing HI-LO? Sweet video.
The very first video I've ever seen on RUclips.
5/6 port = this
4/5 port = ambience

I hear a 4/5 Port 1000T on Chopper Level 5 in the Backround
That would be Grosse Pointe Woods if that's what your referring to
At the end of the video when I zoom out, you can see it on that wooden platform.
This is probably, the video of a T-bolt 1000T with the best video and audio quality despite the fact that it was published in 2008/2009

There was a siren like that on top my old grade school in Peoria IL when I was a kid, it was loud, we lived two and a half blocks from it.
siren open: 0:03 and stop 2:58 and stop effect sound 3:55
They Do not have enoughmonry to activate it. They left the 1000T In service instead! :D
