I’m 17 and I’m still fine with it and I can do laches and (ledge) muscle ups now, so I’ll just stay at a healthy weight and never stop training/playing outside. Also, you can just start working out/walking/playing outside/doing some small physical activity to try getting over small obstacles/whatever else you can do and just get better at it and lose weight over time, plus go into a caloric deficit.
@@nabranestwistypuzzler7019 I’m 21, haven’t done monkey bars in ages but always been able too, used to do weighted dips and stuff. I’m going to start doing monkey bars with added weight and improve
The first time I made it across the Sawtooth bars at the savage race it felt like pure awesomeness! I'm only 5'3 so I went with the straight on approach bicycling my legs the whole time. Wish I could bottle that feeling up and drink it everyday!
@@Wonyoung_fan_number1 because seven years ago when they started creating these obstacle course races, they made the obstacles way too high for shorter people to get a good start on.
I do this down the kids park. Great fun, hard at first but feels great once you get it. Good mental challenge too as you have to not worry about looking like the weird man in the park.
It should be highlighted that the first technique (sideways) is the safest for slippery bars. I have fallen using other techniques on slippery bars in mud races, and my grip is strong.
As a kid between ages 6-9, I woke up every day it didn't rain and was at the park swinging on the monkey bars. I started out slow and had hands covered in carpets of blisters. As time went on, I became stronger, faster, and I stopped getting blisters more serious than surface level. The technique I mastered was bunch my legs up under me and using each bars momentum to propell me to the next and twisting my body to compliment the counterweight, skipping one bar in between. By the time I was 9, I was moving across the bars faster than people could run. So fast that at the end of the 30 bar stretch I had a choice (assuming I was not holding back), to either latch the last rung and use my momentum to lift my body above the bars and step up or to let go and fly out 15 or so feet. The exhilaration one feels from the joy of doing something so well is beyond words. It ended when I outgrew the span between the bars, causing my forehead to connect and lay me out, staring up at the sky with a broken heart. For years after, though, it left me with ridiculous upper body strength. 7 one arm chin ups at 10 isn't bad! To this day I have very pronounced shoulders. The secret to building the speed is not holding on with more than one hand at any point. I enjoyed your video though!
I'm loving the videos! Gearing up for my very first Spartan Race and recording every step of my training and nutrition on my channel. Any input you have would be welcome! Again, great stuff!
I can't do them but at my local park their are only like 4 bars so I can reach to the end and pull my self to the other side or I can just climb on top of them, slide a across then jump down
@@demonix2131 you'll get there. Try doing pullups to gain upper body strength if you can't do a pullup you can build up to it doing deadhangs, negatives, and scapula pullups which I recommend. You can also buy a resistance band for cheap to make the movement easier then just as you progress lower the resistance. I'd also recommend doing Bicep curls and pushups as arm strength matters alot. Overall I'd do a combination of pushups Bicep curls to start then use a resistance band for pullups while doing scapula raises aswell once you get proficient enough and can do chin ups which are easier I'd start doing them along side it aswell Edit: grip strength also matters alot but this will be build as you progress with what I said but if you want doing deadlifts with moderate weight can help with that but it's not necessary
I think my problem is grip strength. I can get across some of the rungs but I spend too much time trying to get a good grip before I move to the next rung.
I'm 22 and I've never been able to do monkey bars, even as a kid. And I was a pretty healthy kid too, always playing sports and exercising. Idk what it is about monkey bars...
I can't hang with one hand so I would try forgetting you can't do it think about being happy then quickly take your hand off the bar and put it on the next remember do it as quickly as possible
The third technique is the one that was my natural one. Also tried the second technique, that failed because I could not keep my arms bend to reach to the next bar.
Is it better to wear gloves? The reason I ask is that I did an obstacle course event a couple of years ago and the monkey bars were really hot and it took the skin of my palms off. All the water obstacles were filled with salt water. It stung like hell. I know you have to go through a bit of pain doing these things but that took the piss!!
That depends on the glove and the weather. A lot of gloves will be more slippery on the bars than your bare skin, especially if your hands are wet or muddy. Some are great - the wide receiver style. Toughest made some, of which one batch were great but if you buy the later ones they may fall apart.
I used to not be able to do the orangutan, or the monkey bars itself, but I’ve been doing a lot of muscle workouts, cuz I’m almost like a stick if u saw me irl, but now I can finally do the orangutan
I'm a wimp and when I was at the playground trying to face my fears, when I got a hold of the first bar I freaked out and got back onto the steps because I'm not used to the way it feels and it makes me feel like I wanna throw up
Dude when I was 7 my whole school raced each other on monkey bars and boy those kids were fast and they did "tricks" I became the fastest in my school lol.
i used to be one of the most athletic kids in my grade, then quarantine hit. but i'm doing better with dieting and staying active so i should be back in shape in a few months.
I did not make the comment as any kind of statement. The technique may be the same but the way women approach certain scenarios is different. My comment was more towards tutorials such as getting over the walls. That was all.
I know i am 2 years later, but if you even do monkey bars anymore a good thing to do is try not to look or focus on the ground just focus on the monkey bars.
Need to do this during my standard obstacle course in the army. With helmet, webbings and rifle
So easy to do as a kid, much harder as a heavy adult

@@Wonyoung_fan_number1 because seven years ago when they started creating these obstacle course races, they made the obstacles way too high for shorter people to get a good start on.
I saw plenty of people fall doing #3. The bars and your hands will be wet, and you can easily slip out
I can do it even though i weigh a lot, just cant hang in one place, gotta keep swinging
When I was a kid I didn’t know how to climb the monkey bars oh wait. I am still a kid.

I've tried and I think it might have to do with the fact that I have very little upper body strength. Thanks for the techniques though.
It’s all in the grip

I do the orangutan swing ! #1& 2 can only do a Couple of them
I can't do it because I not strong enough to hold my weight
Skittles girl 👧
you must do grip training before you start, and you need to go faster when you are loosing grip.
same
i can hold for like 20 seconds with both hands when im using when i can only hold on for like 2 seconds so i have half or your problem
Why is the first guy kicking forward as if he’s pedaling in a way? Does it help with something??
I like the last last one. So fun

Turns out this is one of the most important exercises to maintaining balance as you grow older. Like jogging, it is a very good exercise to keep up.
I can close a captain of crush #3 and I can't do monkey bars.
what happens if you fall

Can I use Reebok training glove for it?

It's all in the grip once you have good grip you can do flips and handstands as well 😎
Im late, but try learning how to use your scapulae (the showder/back bone)
If you had fallen, what would you have fallen into? Something soft?

So grippy fingerless gloves work?

What is underneath the bars? Is it a huge hole???
Thank you I can do it

No swinging and legs straight is what I was thought.
