I left this feeling so motivated. I've been accepted to seminary and am so ready to lay down my life for the sake of the Kingdom. Pray for me! UPDATE: I'm into my 2nd year at seminary, God has been so good to me and I can more surely say that the advice contained in this video is golden. Please listen to this wisdom from Fr. Casey.
The Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit, if many churches are correct. The Trinity is a Family-- two Parents and a Progeny, if many churches are correct. In the Book of Job which is part of the bible, the Lord is compared to a father and also a mother with a womb. "From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens"--Job 38:29. Saying that the "Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit" is simply another way of saying that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father and the Son" which has been official Catholic Church teaching for centuries. According to the Catholic Church, the Son is begotten from the Father. If this is true, the Father is the Father (Parent) of the Son. According to the Church, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. If this is true, the Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit. Of course, the scriptures are vague if the Holy Spirit is the 3rd or 1st or 2nd Person of the Trinity--whichever of these is true, the First Person and the Second Person may be the Parents of the Third. Parent definition 1a from Merriam-Webster dictionary: one that begets or brings forth offspring.
I felt a call to the priesthood long ago, but felt no encouragement from my community. Ergo, I felt that I would not be able to lead a larger faith community well as their priest. I also had a strong desire to have a family. Later, I married, but was not able to have children because my wife was past her time. Since then, we have encountered many "children' who needed direction in their lives. This has become my vocation. ; to help those in need as I(we) can enable them. A unique vocation.
michaelinminn - I appreciate your ministry. I am doing the similar thing by help people around me to read the bible more, to apply the words of God to their daily live and to develop a personal relationship with God. Keep on trucking. See you along the way to our father home.
Unlike the Old Testament, the New Testament has no “appointed” priests but every Christian is a priest with the Lord Jesus Christ as High Priest. on Based on the Bible we can therefore state that every believer is equal before the Lord Jesus. And if this is the case, we may also say that an "appointed minister" should baptism and the sacrament can be found nowhere in the Bible. Any Christian may proclaim the Word, perform baptism and the Lord's Supper (the table of the Lord) operate. A Christian will have to use the Bible, and not church doctrine or church order, as the standard to take. Nowhere does the Bible teach an appointed pastor or preacher, these are human reservations that want to be above the Word of the Lord! public 1:6 "And he made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father." made - to Him be the glory and the power forever and ever! Amen". 1 pet. 2:5 And let yourselves also be used as living stones for the building of a spiritual house, to form a holy priesthood, to bring of spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 pet. 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people (to God) for his own possession, to declare great deeds from Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
@@AL-ns1jm btw the cermony celebrating jesus, flesh and blood is not called "the last supper" it is called the passover which is one of the 7 feasts of god, only that specific event is titled the last supper but what they were celebrating is called the passover, why do i care about what its called, i dont care too much but callinga feast of god by the name god gave himself is better😎
In my school they kinda did. They did the whole “Medicine is a vocation and not a career” spiel. Especially with how insurance works right now in my country our instructors outright said that if you just wanna be rich, just drop out right now and start a business. Funny how that after I graduated I mainly do volunteer work / medical missions, and all my money comes from my rental properties / family business.
gain wisdom through age, don't make certain life long decisions at such a young age.......experience life and its trials before big decisions like this.
Saint Charbel was actually younger than you when he longed to become a preist. Good on you for having this consideration. Try to get experience out in the world and you will see how God will work in your life. By the way pray the rosary. If you already do great. This is the best weapon in our times. Well done and keep going
@@ssabino01 you know something, many preists dont actually have life experience. Like to be honest if God has called someone to the preisthood, they dont have to worry about life experience because its much deeper than that. And i beleive in my Opinion that the reality is, the only experience he really needs, is God calling him inside. Thats the real experience.
I’m a Seminarian and I personally needed this video at this time. Thank you, many prayers and keep doing what you’re doing 🙏🏽 love the message and it’s a reminder we all need.
So true! When I was the religion coordinator at a Catholic elementary school, I asked our chaplin, one of our parish priests, if he would celebrate mass for the faculty during our retreat. Our plans were made and a retreat house booked as I wanted to be sure we had a place off campus so out teachers could be away from the workplace and really focus on our reflection of what it means to be a catechist and more than a teacher. His response to my question, "You don't expect me to give up my day off for that?" I was shocked, to say the least. My reply, "No Father, I would never ask you to give up a golf game to help our teachers understand the difference between what it mean to be a "Catholic teacher" as apposed to being a "teacher". He was then promoted and is director of clergy personnel for the archdiocese. Thankfully, the following year a different parish joined the parish and asked to be the elementary school chaplin. When I asked him about joining us for our retreat he said, "Well that's my day off..." I thought here we go again. "so nothing will keep me away for joining you and celebrating mass for our teachers." There had to be one good one in the group.
I'm 19 and have been thinking for a few years about becoming a priest. This was a real wake up call of how much closer a relation to God I must develop first before I ever pose myself the question of priesthood again. Thank you.
I can remember encountering a nun who had an aura of the Love of God, it was so palpable that I could feel it, I think of that frequently and that is what is necessary for the Priesthood and Religious life.
I am a former seminarian and i always believed that i was called by God. I answered on that call and i lived in a seminary for almost 3 years. Until I realized that this is not my calling, i may be for a different profession. But living and experiencing a life in the seminary, tought me alot of things, and made me think that God really planned that to happen. I've learned that I have to accept my true self because I know that God loves me and my imperfections. That life experience is something that i will forever treasure in my entire life.
Well, the only acceptable translation to what you're saying is that you though becoming priest would make you better Christian, just the same a psychology student usally acts as if he/she is studing to be sane. However, I do not think that was tha case since you believed you were called. If you believed that, that means you weren't expecting to become the ideal servant, but just to wanted to actually serve, and you loved God. Indeed, you should "accept yourself". But we sometimes confusie whats a "true self". Sometimes we relate our true self to human things, corporal things or mental things. Our true self is being Christian. Accepting that is accepting one's true self. Sure we have imperfections, but we are not to embrace them, but to strive for the best. Indeed we are sick. However, we are not to accept our nature as sick -- even if we have been conceived in sins (Psalm 51.5). That's because we have been assisted by the Doctor, by Jesus to get healthier, get better, left 'imperfections' behind. It's not that we expect that to be one day to another or even one decate to another, or even in our lifetime, but that doesn't mean we will give up to our imperfections. That's not loving our selves or selfacceptance, that's actually don't loving ourselves and not loving Christ who died to assist us in this war. It's not that we are going to expect to change or that we are going to actualy hate our imperctions, we are just not to give up on them, keep trying, keep confessing, keep taking medication. Otherwise, we will be truly departed from God, as we have actually deperted to our true Christian nature.
I assure You, GOD IS NOT CALLING YOU to be a priest, unless You are a Jew and live through the tribulation going into the Kingdom, because that is future and not in the current administration (dispensation), The Body of Christ!
Do keep me in your prayers all my dear one's. As I'm joining the seminary by the month of August.😊 I'm joining the Redemptorists, also known as "The Congregation of The Most Holy Redeemer."✝️ I will pray for all of you too 🙏🏻 God bless you all... ✝️❤️
I’ve only recently started learning more about Catholicism since I was raised in an Atheist household, and the more I learn the more I want to join the priesthood, I feel like our lord himself showed me this path and I will do anything to follow it, thank you so much Friar, you have helped me find a path meant for me
Some of the best priests share your story. It is interesting how an Atheist household can produce some of the best priests. If you can visit Medjugorje it has been a place that has helped many people discern their vocation.
Alan Thompson - and there are so many people on RUclips who spend every moment criticising and denigrating our dear Pope Francis - it seems nothing he does can make them say a single nice word about Papa Francisco.
As a traditionalist who never had the chance to attend a Traditional Latin Mass, I believe that the Novus Ordo is a legitimate mass nonetheless. There are just some abuses that happens most of the time in Novus Ordo masses, like taking communion with the hands, or wearing skimpy and inappropriate clothing. As far as I experienced, none of the priests celebrating these masses address the issue, especially the former. The Novus Ordo mass in itself isn't bad, but due to some of its nature, people tend to abuse it. The youth nowadays are starting to be interested in Protestantism because they don't know the Catholic Church. Just like here in the Philippines, most of my Catholic classmates won't even go to confession because they say that they will pray it to God directly, some don't care at all. It is disheartening to see so many Catholics yet very few faithful.
@Frances Christine lmao. calm down. obviously you didn't get the memo back in the 19th century when the popes were warning about freemasonry infiltrating the Church. Or from the chief exorcist in the Vatican before he passed away. it all in God plan. But the recent news about the Pope criticizing Mary for not playing a role in our salvation is a BIG red flag. if allegations are true, I demand all the faithful to protest!!!! We must defend our Mother the same way we want her to defend us when we are at the judgement seat!!!
@@Spoons213 the thing is this, you cannot prove it is invalid. but the more important thing is this: when going to mass, how do people dress up? are they all dress up to meet a king, or are they dress up to go meet their buddy? God is not your buddy when doing a sacrifice to atone for our sins. so why dont you start dressing up and show reverence when you go to mass. maybe it will set an example to those souls God has chosen.
4:00 - That's why I'm still single.. I see religious life as a safe haven to hide from the worldly insecurities.. thank you for reminding why I shouldn't join with this intention in mind.. hope I can serve Jesus with my singlehood..🧡💙
@@paulmiller3469 The mouse who struggled so hard he eventually churned that cream into butter, then crawled out. Those are the ones that Christ calls, however keeping in mind who they will become.
And being ALONE. A lot of priests quit and get married, or worse (with um... nuns or alter servers), because they don't know how to be comfortable being and working ALONE.
The bible teaches clearly that NO ONE is holy, but sinners and enemies of god by nature (the priests as well). And this changes only when the sinner realizes that and admits it in accordance with the word of god, and repents to Jesus Christ in faith to him. Nobody can earn his way to heaven by religion, and if it would be that way, the horrible death of Christ on the cross would be meaningless.
@@5hadow5talker you mean, alone in the sense that they are to never seek intimacy with flesh. But as the surrogate bridegroom, married to Christ's Church, they should never be alone. Many decades ago, priests were welcomed by the families of their congregations into their homes. They had personal relationships with the members of their flock. Recently, though, there has been a push by both the hierarchy, as well as the parish families, to maintain distance between priests and their parishioners due to fear as a result of the scandals in the Church. But priests need to feel the love of the sheep entrusted to their care. And they need to be one with Christ whom they represent to the flock. If they embrace this, they will never be alone.
@@divinemercy417 That's very poetic, but MOST people need physical intimacy. It's just a fact. That's why Eastern Orthodox Churches allow their priests to marry. Some men go crazy from never have physical relations and realizing that their whole life and livelihood will be ripped apart if they do.
@@BreakingInTheHabit- priests aren't welcoming to moms, esp. moms the same age they are. Awkward with women who are peer age. Seen this in several states - it's endemic. 😑
I almost was afraid to click on this ‘dumb’ titled video....probably from some anti church person...... but I did want to see just who is now upset with us priests.... wow ... what a shocker.... a great message and very timely too ......... I’m 52 years in the priesthood now and I was proud of your energy and dare to serve ..... your have a little lion within you ... but its alive for Christ....... Thanks Father..... well done.... !
I found this video very guiding. I have been doubting what the Lord has been asking of me. That it must be something else he wants from me and this never ending urge to become a Priest was just my mind grabbing at things, plus, frankly I do not want to be a Priest in many ways, but still this urge persists. It is like a constant battle between my mind and something else (do not worry at this point, my mental health is sound). I listened to a Priest one day talking about a calling from God when he was asked, " How do you know it is a calling from God?" he chuckled, paused and said the words that have echoed in my eyes since that day, "Because you do not want to do it, yet in your heart, you know you have to. Because when you think of actually doing that thing you do not want to do, you feel energised and at peace. That is when you know." There was more to his answer than simply that but those words burned into my mind. I've come to understand the Lord demands something of me but I have a journey and road laid out before me, he knows the ultimate destination, but I must have faith and belief in Him to gain the strength to commit to this journey. A bigger twist to this tale, I was not even Catholic. Yet this ever increasing urge to join with the Catholic faith, the same feelings as when thinking about becoming a Priest. I am now praying everyday and attending Mass everyday to grow closer to the Lord so I may actually continue on this journey of faith. If there is anyone out there that may have further insight into this feel free to reply.
Alright then... i won’t be a preist... instead, i’ll be a married layman... pray the Divine Office and teach the true faith to my children, and live my life as a layman to serve my community and God... I still want to live my life to the fullest and experience the great joy of what God has created in the world... The preisthood is not my vocation... becoming a saint is...
Really brutally honest perception everyone looking to commit their lives to others should take! I think this is one of my favorite videos of yours. Thank you for creating this.
This reminds me of a dear friend and mentor since called home. Orthodox not Roman Catholic but that dedication to Christs kingdom. Almost every time I spoke with him to see how he was he was on his way to minister to someone. He always had time when I needed him but he was also in hospitals and old folks homes caring for his flock. I love that man for that spirit of devotion although I'd have liked to see him take more time for his health I think putting others first is part of him catching pneumonia and putting it off part of it getting serious enough for it to take him. Then again every time I think of him in Heaven with the rest we are promised, though I suspect it takes an angel to keep him from running off to so more, always makes me smile.
As a teacher for 10 years i suffered pain and broken heartedness just to make people around me feel that God is real and that He is moving and working in our lives. Years ago, I have heard God's call and had the desire to be a priest but i seem like too depressed and incomplete to call myself able, fit and to consider myself as someone God is looking for as a worker in His vineyard. After watching this video, somehow i felt consoled that despite the deep sadness and weariness in those years of service, I was doing a good job all along that no one notices. It's as if I performed something on stage and the first one who applauded was Jesus at the far end of the room. It made me very courageous to answer His call. Thank you so much, Fr. Casey. PS: I'm aspiring to become a Franciscan too. May you pray for me.
This video has been out 6 months ago.. but i feel it speaking to me every moment i rewatch it.. being 23 and in my philosophical studies with my fellow brothers (in a salesian seminary); the video made me feel a deep concern after observing again what we are up against(the current world) and what we are aiming at.. we need to reconsider our Vocation! Pray for us plz.. so as we may be what God calls us to be and nothing else.. thanks alot Father!..
Excellent message and it needs to be said. So, thank you! I'm the vocation director for a religious order and one question I always ask new applicants is: "There will be times in your life when you experienced aridity, hopelessness, and lose all motivation to pray; a time when you received no consolation from God. Tell me how you think you will handle this?" I know it's easy for those who are just starting out in religious life to have a very idealized notion of it. That's why I like to ask that question. And why I appreciated your message here. Peace!
I honestly don't want to or ever become a priest sadly. I'm just not that religious. But my older brother Zach was very rooted in the Catholic Church that at the age of 14, he either wanted to be a priest or an astronaut. His favorite archangel was always Saint Michael and he wanted to be in his army in heaven someday. He is a very inspirational person to me and is the reason why I haven't given up on the Catholic religiong entirely, so thank you for giving me a good reason to help other people elsewhere and not as a priest.
Great message. If you're lukewarm and not committed to Christ, please leave the seminary or the priesthood. We need holy servant warriors that boldly preach the authentic gospel of Jesus Christ and are willing to suffer greatly for it.
Thank you so much for this video, it was really helpful! I had to click on it because the title caught my attention☺I grew up Catholic and always attended mass physically but my heart was not there spiritually. I was there for attendance purposes and I didn't feel I had a relationship with God. I struggled with lots of sin during high school and felt my life was falling apart. But this past year, after lots of prayers and discernment. I believe that God might be calling me to the priesthood. I would have never imagined myself where I am today a few years ago but I am now applying to the seminary and will be starting this fall. I've never been more happy and excited in my life. Please keep me in your prayers and pray for more vocations. God bless! ☺☺☺
Our priest came straight from the bar on his day off to give my grandmother her last rites. Blessed to have that level of dedication in our religious leader. A true man of God. Miss him terribly since he was transferred, but God’s Will be done.
17 minutes to go. This is almost like being at a real Hollywood premiere waiting for the film to start. The excitement is almost too much. I would put this up there with waiting for the doors to open at Best Buy on Black Friday.
It is Good thing you pointed out Obedience is important in our lives. As Obedience is one thing which Satan can never commit or have. Once who are not Obedient to their Superiors and the teachings of the church are most probably in Darkness and error.
Wow. That was beautiful! Thanks! I was working with an amazing group of people back a few months ago before moving. Because me and my other friend who were Bible Study leaders, we became much more when we actually started living as the church and community and started reaching out and living as a family. I took the responsibility of shepherding and making sure everyone was taken care of and the group blossomed! That is what properly loving, as you said, your flock does.Trying to connect with a new church community out here now though. Its difficult but already found individuals living for God!
Fr. Casey if you live by your words you are living the way of the Saints. Thanks for giving us this message of hope. This is mine though to all readers: if you can't keep it in, we do not need you.
THANK YOU FATHER!!! QUALITY NEVER QUANTITY!!!!! QUANTITY IS ONE OF THE REASONS OUR CHURCH AND FAITHFUL FACE SOOOOO MUCH HATRED IN THE WORLD!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICE AND FOR THE TRUTH YOU SPEAK!!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!
I am an atheist, I am a doctor, and I was once a mason (a cheap lodge), and damn, I swear I would love to be a permanent deacon, and even a presbyter, but I know that because of my life of blasphemy that is for pride, the church does not need more trash like me, the church needs holy priests, I hope that one day I will embrace JESUS 100% and without a doubt, but my work and promiscuity are for the strongest moment, but I do not doubt it, I want and I would give everything to be also a Brother Marist
Maestro Vichozo God loves all of his children and we all fall short. I’ll be praying for you and to see your worth. The church is a hospital for sinners not a home for the righteous. God bless you
Maestro Vichozo Don’t lose heart. St. Augustine used to be similar to you before he had a conversion. He is a doctor of the Catholic Church. I suggest one day that you say God if you are real help me with my endeavor to know you and the truth. You never know what might occur!
Why not give your whole life to Christ right now? The Church isn’t a group of perfect people, we’re all pilgrims on the journey of growing!!! Christ is waiting for you with open arms
Mate I think you're on the right path to something great and hearing Jesus call you. the fact you even expressed to hope to follow Him one day... I think you're putting yourself down by calling yourself an atheist. Maybe still a bit agnostic perhaps, if even that. But the fact you've thought about Christ and wanting to serve others in that capacity is something pretty amazing in itself. So don't put yourself down. You're obviously on a very strange path for yourself at the moment. And you mentioned your "sins"... I'm right there with you brother. I wish I was pure enough and felt that call to the priesthood as well. But I still know I'm not outside grace, or that I've got other ways to still contribute and serve positively. I'll pray for you. And remember, none of the men/disciples who Jesus asked to follow him were perfect (far from it) and look what they did.
You are not an atheist! You are searching. You are trying to reconcile the evils and pains of this world which you know too well so closely and first-hand, with a God who loves his creation. We will never know all the answers here. Don't try. The Catholic Church reminds us in St. Thomas Aquinas that we can't appreciate the good without the bad. We will not have absolute good until we meet Jesus face-to-face in heaven and this broken world most emphatically is not heaven. You've tried finding or avoiding answers as an atheist. It didn't work so instead, read the parable of the Prodigal Son and be assured of God's love for us sinners. The story is handed down in Scripture, in God's message of Love Justice and mercy to us that was written by very imperfect people. Yet they were inspired, that is, touched and led and directed by Jesus. Also let the story of the woman who was caught in adultery penetrate your heart and mind. Jesus said, let him who is without sin cast the first stone and no one could. He is merciful and just. He is The Giver of perfect Grace. None of us measure up. We can't. We're not God. Jesus says Come As You Are. At the same time, He asks everyone to be transformed and transfigured in essence by His love. Take to heart, "knock and the door shall be opened. Seek and you shall find. Ask and it shall be given to you." Since you are a doctor, you know how fragile life is and you know that you try your very best to help those who come to you in pain of whatever kind but you also know that you are not the arbiter of life. You know that you are fragile, vulnerable and imperfect but you also know you have special gifts and abilities and you use them to your very best fidelity and ability. Consider the power, the very strong admonitions in your Hippocratic Oath. Knowing them in your full reality, you still undertook the endeavor. Your impulse to find Christ and then act on His presence and Grace tells me He is calling you strongly in complete awareness of your current frailties, past sins and prodigious love. You are a mere human like the rest of us but the human God chose to come to so that you could know Him as He who has revealed himself to you strongly yet gently. He loves you so much! Don't try to be a savior with all the answers. I need to hear that too. Christ has already done it. All we have to do is let Him in our hearts so He can work in us and for us. Let yourself believe because faith is an act of will and love. Faith is belief in things unseen. I heard a saying: science will get you to the door but faith will allow you to cross the threshold. Faith and grace are a gift. Receive them wholeheartedly and Jesus will do the rest. Surrender and your pride and past will be subsumed by Christ's love. There's no sin he hasn't or can't forgive. "For God so loved the world that He sent His Son that all might have life eternal." God bless you. I will pray for you and all your patients you touch. From a fellow Pilgrim and sinner who would not be able to endure without Jesus and His love. With all my limits and disabilities, I live by the assurance that I can do all things in him who strengthens me. He gently exhorts me, "come to me all who labor and are heavy burdened and I will give you rest." I can feel the poignant palpable repentance and regret in your writing. Let Jesus take it and let go in faith. Colleen
Wonderful message, Fr. Casey, and one that I've struggled with. I've often thought that perhaps I would make a good priest, but as Pope Francis said, "Unless you're 100% sure Christ is the center of your life, please postpone ordination" (paraphrasing). And the truth is, I don't know yet. I still have much more spiritual growth to undergo before I know for sure. I'm glad you knew and became a priest though.
I really liked this video. It needed to be said and it was said in a very profound way. Now that you’ve told everyone to not be a priest you should make a video about priestly vocations and what kind of priests the church needs
>be me >prays and asks God if he wants me to be a priest >goes to sleep >wakes up randomly (probably because cats are fighting) >opens youtube >scrolls 4 videos down to see “Don’t be a priest” >watches entire video still fully understanding what it takes to be a priest, but not sure if God sees the same thing if this is an answer to my prayer
Now that’s how you give a talk about vocations! Excellent advice on whether you should even begin to consider the priesthood. It also goes for us in the pews. I am constantly trying to avoid the pitfalls you describe in my own life. Thank you!
I am no longer a Catholic, and my church does not have "professional clergy" but I am preparing to become a military chaplain, and this video is a phenomenal reminder of how focused and strong we must be in our faith in Christ. Thank you!
I can attest to the truth of this video. In my husband's family, there have been 3 men who were ordained--2 as priests in the late 1960s-early 1970s, 1 as a deacon in early 1990s. All three of them have since abandoned their vocations, and in fact, two have left the Church completely. It has caused me much sorrow. But I suspect that all three of them lacked the dedication to the flock mentioned in this video. Now I worry that their souls are in jeopardy. Please pray for them to repent, especially the 2 who have fallen away from the Church, and to return to the fold. "For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us & on the whole world."
Their souls are not in jeopardy if they left because they realized that it was not their vocation after all. It is possible for ordained men to be laicized, and they can still be in a state of grace.
I really appreciate this video, so true and real. Your are great father. Not only priest can save souls but also Any vocation takes part in the Salvation of souls.
Great words to help discern. A humble human heart that cares and genuinely cares not just a person who floats over ppl. Someone who makes eye contact to everyone and gets to know his flock . Not a perfect person of course but one who is invested.
Thank you so much for putting it together just the way it is. Well done and, well said Fr Casey. God bless you and, guide you through your journey of preaching the Gospel of the Lord God Almighty Father 🙏❤️💙😇😇
This is also why St Francis of Assisi sent away one of his priests in the 1960s movie when he saw that he longed for a marital relationship which indirectly said he didn't need him in the order since his heart was elsewhere.
Thank you father for this -- "real talk" -- perfect and direct to the heart. It is indeed a heart warming message for all of us discerning religious and priestly life. Thank you and God bless.
I will preach and teach the gospel, the truth and correcting all the misinterpretations hold against our church. I will bring Christ to many people through the sacraments and catechizing them. I’ll follow Christ in the way of St.Dominic
I’m a woman - Catholic but I do pray all day and God, Jesus and Holy Spirit are #1 in my life. I consider myself a servant and any and every decision I make I ask God - I put it in God and Jesus’ hands - learning to also call on Mother Mary and the Saints. I have prayed and asked about what it is I can do for God / how can I serve best. I believe I get answers. I do love to help or be an assistant- so even bringing a Priest in my community a new warm sweater to wear under robes during mass (we have no heat in our beautiful old chapel and it can be 25 degrees in winter - very cold). I just like to help and I always pray. I recently prayed about being a Chaplin - and lo - I met a Chaplin the next week - to answer my questions. Surrendering to the glory of God is the only way to live. God Bless and protect you and all our priests and may only enter who are true servants to God. 🙏🏼🕊
I’m 21 and Irish and soon to start my Propaedeutic year. I’ve met with many Irish priests in my discernment process and most are great men who love God and who live by his standards. Though there are some who aren’t though they will be found out soon with changes happening all the time.
Rev Billy Graham tipped the balance in 1978. Worked for AT+T for many years. I miss seminary and novitiate --God so blessed me with holy seminary priests.
You and Fr. Philip are a breath of fresh air when it comes to how people should understand how the church needs to operate under the apostalic callings of Christ. You help people understand that while you may not have all the answers you can explain what answers you do have. My thanks to you my fellow brother in Christ.
It's funny, when I was on CatholicMatch a few times a year many guys on the dating website forum would complain about their inability to find a wife and ask if they should, "just become a priest." The worst part about it was they were totally serious about becoming priests for all the wrong reasons.
Actually I'm discerning to be a Priest and then I see this in RUclips (Don't Become a Priest) from a Franciscan Priest, so I'm a little bit of confuse now.
It's click bait!! Fr. Casey loves being a Priest!!!....Both of you continue on your journey to the Priesthood! We need holy priests because no Priests..No Jesus! Praying for you both!
I was turned away from my studies and discernment to the priesthood because there were people in the Church who did not want to love and accept me as I was.
Padre says unorthodox. I say orthodox. Padre is right we need good and holy sheep, who become priests not for their praise, but for the glory of God, the salvation of others, and making others holy through your work and example.
i need to add: i can't think of a single bad priest in my personal experience. I think all or most of the priests i have met in my life have been blessings! just wonderful people filled with the Holy Spirit. I made this comment because i have heard from some people about priests who were unwilling to help or to celebrate Masses and who seem to only be waiting for their vacations to come along.
THANK YOU FOR THAT, YOU MADE ME RETHINK ABOUT IT AGAIN, I GOT TOUCHED AT A SOME POINT, MAYBE IF GOD WISHES ,I WILL GET ANOTHER PROFESSION, THIS IS NOT MINE.😢💔
@@raulbaquero5081 i found this on Wikipedia On 18 August 2014, Pope Francis said that "the process of beatification of Romero was at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, blocked for 'prudential reasons', so they said. Now it is unblocked." Pope Francis stated that "There are no doctrinal problems and it is very important that [the beatification] is done quickly." The beatification is widely seen as the pope's strong affirmation of Romero's work with the poor and as a major change in the direction of the church since he was elected. On Friday, 9 January 2015, an online news story article by Carol Glatz of Catholic News Service (CNS) stated that on Thursday, 8 January 2015: "A panel of theologians advising the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints voted unanimously to recognize the late Salvadoran Archbishop Óscar Romero as a martyr, according to the newspaper of the Italian bishops' conference." It is a key step in his canonization process. Next, the Cardinals who are voting members of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in the Roman Curia must vote to recommend to Pope Francis that Romero be beatified. A miracle is not required for beatification candidates who the Pope decrees are martyrs to be beatified, as it would normally be otherwise. If he is not beatified as a martyr, a miracle will then normally be needed for him to be canonized. You can read the whole of his story here;- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%93scar_Romero

I have had this feeling in my chest that can only describe as a deep yearning every single time I step into my local Catholic Church. Its been that way from the very first instant I stepped through the door of the Church. That feeling hasn’t left me since the first time I thought of becoming a priest. I think I’m being called. I think this affirmed that. Thank you Father.
Thanks fsther Casey for the z Godly messages to all those who wants to be a prjiast, it is true many priest who sometimes leave the parish and its flock with only one morning Holy Mass and went for prosesion to anather parish ,you have brought the right speech in modern times there are such priest doing so as you said and remind other priest who watch this video to be more careful in present.

May the Lord God guide you and be with you al who wants to be a priest.

They should give similar speech in medical school.
Why would they? College is a business.
Best. Idea. Ever.
They should give such speeches for every profession
In my school they kinda did. They did the whole “Medicine is a vocation and not a career” spiel.
Especially with how insurance works right now in my country our instructors outright said that if you just wanna be rich, just drop out right now and start a business.
Funny how that after I graduated I mainly do volunteer work / medical missions, and all my money comes from my rental properties / family business.

Hmmmmmm
I've been denied confession on two different occasions by two different priests because it's not convenient for them!
Your story surprised me and moved me. How did the former priest in the story respond to your statement about giving up his golf game?
....oh, so sorry 😔 😥
I'm 19 and have been thinking for a few years about becoming a priest. This was a real wake up call of how much closer a relation to God I must develop first before I ever pose myself the question of priesthood again. Thank you.
Same I'm 18 and thinking about that
Don't forget to include permanent deacons.
Why become a priest?
You don't like girls 🤣
I can

I am a former seminarian and i always believed that i was called by God. I answered on that call and i lived in a seminary for almost 3 years. Until I realized that this is not my calling, i may be for a different profession. But living and experiencing a life in the seminary, tought me alot of things, and made me think that God really planned that to happen. I've learned that I have to accept my true self because I know that God loves me and my imperfections. That life experience is something that i will forever treasure in my entire life.
How did you realize it was not your calling?
If God wants me to become a priest. He will surely lead me.
I assure You, GOD IS NOT CALLING YOU to be a priest, unless You are a Jew and live through the tribulation going into the Kingdom, because that is future and not in the current administration (dispensation), The Body of Christ!

I appreciated the part where you say "If you think you know more than the Pope .... we do not need you" - that is so absolutely true
Alan Thompson - and there are so many people on RUclips who spend every moment criticising and denigrating our dear Pope Francis - it seems nothing he does can make them say a single nice word about Papa Francisco.
SOME DO NO MORE TRUTH THEN A FAULSE POPE !!!
We need priests that are holy. Comfortable In silence and prayer.
@@5hadow5talker good priests are always busy involved in the community.

What do you have to do to be a priest
I'm hoping to enter the Postulancy for the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate this next August. This makes me even more excited.
Dan - yes, we all are called to be holy. If you are called to be a holy husband and father to you wife and children, then do it.

This give me the fire to become a priest more

Years ago, I have heard God's call and had the desire to be a priest but i seem like too depressed and incomplete to call myself able, fit and to consider myself as someone God is looking for as a worker in His vineyard. After watching this video, somehow i felt consoled that despite the deep sadness and weariness in those years of service, I was doing a good job all along that no one notices. It's as if I performed something on stage and the first one who applauded was Jesus at the far end of the room. It made me very courageous to answer His call. Thank you so much, Fr. Casey.

Ask and it shall be given to you."
Since you are a doctor, you know how fragile life is and you know that you try your very best to help those who come to you in pain of whatever kind but you also know that you are not the arbiter of life. You know that you are fragile, vulnerable and imperfect but you also know you have special gifts and abilities and you use them to your very best fidelity and ability. Consider the power, the very strong admonitions in your Hippocratic Oath. Knowing them in your full
reality, you still undertook the endeavor.
He gently exhorts me, "come to me all who labor and are heavy burdened and I will give you rest."
I can feel the poignant palpable repentance and regret in your writing. Let Jesus take it and let go in faith.

As somebody discerning on an application to the seminary, this video is a very good reminder of what's at stake. Thank you, Father.
>be me
>prays and asks God if he wants me to be a priest
>goes to sleep
>wakes up randomly (probably because cats are fighting)
>opens youtube
>scrolls 4 videos down to see “Don’t be a priest”
>watches entire video still fully understanding what it takes to be a priest, but not sure if God sees the same thing if this is an answer to my prayer
Now that’s how you give a talk about vocations! Excellent advice on whether you should even begin to consider the priesthood. It also goes for us in the pews. I am constantly trying to avoid the pitfalls you describe in my own life. Thank you!
Indeed! THIS is how vocations should be taught! Not a calling to be taken lightly! Amen!
Thanks for reminding us that each vocation is important and that priesthood is a serious matter that is rooted in intimate friendship with Jesus!
Very well said Father. We need such priests for today's world. I am,as a priest tires my best to be a such priest. God bless you. Inspire us more.
I pray daily for the increase of religious vocations. May we have more priests like you Fr. Casey. God bless!
Good message father,
Oh lord, Make all priests HOLY
God bless you for this video. I needed to here this.
Thank you, this video is on point and clear and necessary.
It is possible for ordained men to be laicized, and they can still be in a state of grace.
it's a call to the church to change its sinful ways.
Really love your videos explains a lot about Catholic aspects and so on, really awesome indeed . God Bless
I live in the state you were ordained. I shall come see you preach one day :)
I really appreciate this video, so true and real. Your are great father. Not only priest can save souls but also Any vocation takes part in the Salvation of souls.
This is a great video! Regards from a Syriac Orthodox faithful ☺️
I am discerning priesthood, pray for me
Great words to help discern. A humble human heart that cares and genuinely cares not just a person who floats over ppl. Someone who makes eye contact to everyone and gets to know his flock . Not a perfect person of course but one who is invested.
I agree with you. True words of wisdom, Father Casey !!!!!
Thank you so much for putting it together just the way it is. Well done and, well said Fr Casey. God bless you and, guide you through your journey of preaching the Gospel of the Lord God Almighty Father 🙏❤️💙😇😇
I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to be a real priest. A whole life of true sacrifice. Amazing!
“Don’t become a priest”
Don’t worry, I can’t.
Lol 😂. Maybe a sister if you're discerning it
😂😂😂😂😂
You can become a nun!
This is also why St Francis of Assisi sent away one of his priests in the 1960s movie when he saw that he longed for a marital relationship which indirectly said he didn't need him in the order since his heart was elsewhere.
Please pray for me as I enter the seminary this formation year. May God bless you!
You're right my dear friend Father Casey. Thank you so much. GOD BLESS YOU MORE. AMEN.
I'm wanting to become a Catholic monk then a priest
I got really concerned when I saw the title. But everything you said is true I just wish Irish priest hear this and change their ways
There are some great priests in Ireland unfortunately it may depend on where you live... Just like schools.
I'm confident that God will lead me to the vocation He has chosen me
I am so very touched by many of your postings. Bishop Barron, and you are the best!
Let the spirit of God descern and lead all his chosen ones🙂
A true message frm a young priest✨️✨️Thnkyou Father.. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Actually I'm discerning to be a Priest and then I see this in RUclips (Don't Become a Priest) from a Franciscan Priest, so I'm a little bit of confuse now.
I'm meeting with the Vocations director today lol... and Fr Casey says Don't Become a Priest lol
It's click bait!! Fr. Casey loves being a Priest!!!....Both of you continue on your journey to the Priesthood! We need holy priests because no Priests..No Jesus! Praying for you both!
I'll make sure I ask my parish to be praying for you guys in your vocational journey. My parish is big on vocations!
@@michaelperez7677 Thank you very much☺️
Great video straight to the topic.. nice explanation why ..may God bless you🙏
as a seminarian it teaches me a lot. i pay for God's grace to live the message behind it.
I was turned away from my studies and discernment to the priesthood because there were people in the Church who did not want to love and accept me as I was.
I happy because, i am a Catholic. thank you so much my dear father may God bless you all your life. let us pray for like this perists.
Padre says unorthodox. I say orthodox. Padre is right we need good and holy sheep, who become priests not for their praise, but for the glory of God, the salvation of others, and making others holy through your work and example.
Loving him and keeping his teachings in all it's fullness.😃
I am only a layperson, and certainly my conscience has been tweaked about areas I need growth in for my walk with Christ. Thank you Father Casey.
This is all so true Father! There are already enough priests who see the priesthood as a job
i need to add: i can't think of a single bad priest in my personal experience.
As an aside, I love the icon of St. Oscar Romero you have in the background!
Peace and Good !, i have a question regarding St Romero, what was the miracle that made him saint, details ??? Thanks !
AVE MARIA IMMACULATE !
@@raulbaquero5081 i found this on Wikipedia
On 18 August 2014, Pope Francis said that "the process of beatification of Romero was at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, blocked for 'prudential reasons', so they said.
Oscar Romero was NOT a saint- but a communist. It is telling that this glib priest has an image of him on the set.
@@jm08050 Oscar Romero was canonized on 20 October 2018. He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations, and torture amid a growing war between left-wing and right-wing forces.
What precisely is wrong with that? Do you think that poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture are good things which should be supported?
And by the way your insult to Fr Casey is totally uncalled for '
God bless you
@@emtedee985 The truth hurts. Stop being such a fan boy.
The last “if you think...” was my favorite
Thanks fsther Casey for the z Godly messages to all those who wants to be a prjiast, it is true many priest who sometimes leave the parish and its flock with only one morning Holy Mass and went for prosesion to anather parish ,you have brought the right speech in modern times there are such priest doing so as you said and remind other priest who watch this video to be more careful in present. May God bless you and your team to move forward with the help Of Mother Mary to be more faithful towards God in your congregation. Amen. From a Catholic North East India.
