One of the best bassists, and I'm proud to call him a friend. True story: met and played with Rudy at the rock n Roll fantasy camp and he later adds me on Facebook and I even had him talk on the phone with my dear friend/bandmate Grant Winand, who died of cancer 4 days later. In short, everything you heard about Rudy being a sweetheart is 100% true, and I'm proud to call him a friend! God bless him!
Billy Larouqe he seems to be a good guy. Glad he talked to your friend who was about to pass 🙏
100% seems a good one. I'm glad he pretty much found gold more than once or twice in his career! Seems a tough business as well as a total dedication to a craft.
Classy, humble guy.
He’s super nice. I used to talk to him at the Rainbow... and this is right when he joined Ozzy... and he didn’t have any attitude.
Met him a couple of times when was with BOC.He seemed to be a real gentleman.
I met Rudy Sarzo in 1983 in West Texas. He was playing with Quiet Riot on the Mental Health tour. I worked for production companies during the early 80s when I was 17 till I was 22.
I was told to take Rudy wherever he wanted to go He told me he wanted some custom cowboy boots. I took him to a man that handmade boots.
We then went to the record store and then to my house where he met my parents. We rode horses in the afternoon and then I took him back. He gave me a bunch of backstage passes. I took a bunch of my friends to the show. It was kick ass!
Rudy Sarzo is a super talented bassist & truly great guy!
Thank you Rudy for a day, I will always remember!
Boris Bellatrix: Bad ass! FYI, it's Metal Health.
Boris Bellatrix....That was really nice of him Boris. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. God bless you always🙋🏽♀️❤️🕊
Where in West Texas did/or do live? I'm out in Abilene man. Nice story, I bet it was a day you would never forget. Sounds amazing
"Mental Health"? you mean Metal Health.
Are you an El Paso boot maker?
Randy Rhoads was a very bright light, and for Rudy to be able to be seen AT ALL while on stage with Randy speaks volumes for his stage presence and charisma. The fact that his music from 30+ years ago is still revered today is a testament to how amazing the band is that Ozzy put together.
I love watching Rudy interviews. He's the most down to earth guy. Good hearted. Out of the norm for rock stars from that era. God speed Rudy
I bet being in QR with Kevin was hell. You could see in interviews how big of an ego Kevin had.
Every Interview I have seen with Rudy shows that he's a class act. He's a great ambassador of Rock music and an amazing all round very sympathetic guy.
Well he is now out of the closet. So you prob like him even more now.
actually he is married to a women you d bag ,you're probably the gay one who needs to come out of the closet
Limp wrist Willy??
I’m continually blown away by Rudy! He does every interview and tells the same stories answering the same questions, especially about Randy and he never sighs or seems aggravated or resistant. He tells the stories like it’s the first time he’s telling it. And although he’s has this amazing career and played with some of the biggest bands, he knows he’s the conduit these interviewers are basically using him to get to Randy’s story and he’s completely gracious and at peace with it. What a cool and balanced human being Rudy is. Respect!
mccartney has done the sa.e thing for almost 60 years...same questions about guys they knew for 5 to 10 years in their 20s...but I guess it comes with the territory
He's a class act 👍
Well he is now out of the closet. So you prob like him even more now.
Glad to see how important God is to him. God Bless.
“god” doesn’t necessarily mean Jesus ...
@@beppiek I don't think matters what he believes in as long as it's something healthy and makes you feel good
@@TheOnlyHollywood1 I believe in tits
@@beppiek Shut the fuck up!!!!
@Sledge Patrick your probally right here i am telling the man to shut the fuck up!!!! LOL!!!! I could go about it in a different way
Rudy has to be the nicest person in the metal scene, much respect!
Following God, that's what happens :)
The quintessential embodiment of class. And a fabulously talented musician. (The part about not being a drug addict or an alcoholic is why he got the gig is the part that resonates with me the most. I landed a position on the crew with the Scorpions in the 90's because I didn't do drugs and was considered reliable. His own experience really resonated with me.)
I spent a lot of time out on the road as a Systems Engineer (A2) and it was filled with drunk bitter divorced men. The riggers, especially, seemed to enjoy meth, coke, crack - whatever uppers they could get their hands on. It is a hard life that looks an awful lot like Groundhog's Day with each show, venue and town and blending into one hazy noisy blur. It was easier being in the military.
@@fullclipaudio: It was definitely not glamorous for me either. Groundhog would be a good comparison. I drank a bit too much the first few days on the tour, to the point that I was going to quit that morning. But Rudy Schenker's guitar tech mentored me on what to do and how to survive, and it really helped a lot. Regular sleep, eating decent food from the catering table where the bands and management ate from, and two drinks a night after sobering up for a few days made ALL the difference. Big growing experience. Rudy, Mats and Klaus are all awesome people. Looking back, I wouldn't trade the whole circus of it all for anything. Cheers mate!
Rudy is an amazing musician but a more amazing person. Notice how “ he can play this stuff” was the last reason they brought him on. Being sober, trustworthy, and reliable....all CHARACTER factors, is what got him the gig. Very humble man.
"...the audience is not supposed to know how difficult it to do what we do." So much truth behind musicianship. Spot on.
Rudy The Man Sarzo, so much respect for this great musician and notable human being.
Very proud to call this guy my friend. Greatest bass player ever
I met Rudy several times and he was absolutely great! Just a super nice guy and made you feel like you've been friends since you were kids. Thanks Rudy!
He's my favorite heavy rock Bassist. He has it all: the chops, stage presences, looks, and without knowing him-a well disciplined and organized musician. Love him!!
What a nicest guy in the music world...
Rudy is a great guy.
Proud to be able to call him a friend.
You gotta love Rudy! He's such a nice guy. I met him briefly when he was with Whitesnake and he left a great, kind, and just an overall warm impression on me. God bless you Rudy!
Always great when you hear an iconic musician give an interview and they're a cool down to earth person........
Rudy is a true musician a complete gentleman . A true Rock star
"...at my lowest I made piece with God, if I didn't make it, as long as my fingers would till move I'd continue playing." God delivered AT HIS LOWEST - and Rudy is a wonderful person (before and after)
Johnny B "peace"
Johnny B - god KNEW he would get to his "lowest point"...yet did nothing; Probably too busy watching priests molest children. Shrug.
@@potdragon8091 Watch out that hate hitting you right back. If you consider pagan mob better than Christians next door, you have a problem dude. As a minimum you are irrational. You may also need help from professional exorcist.
Interesting self serving belief...but i can assure you all that this silly “making peace with God” scenario is no where in the Bible. It just doesnt work this way. Sorry.
Johnny B Amen brother!
I love Rudy and I am honored to have played beside him; he is a truly amazing person. Long live the new originals!
Rudy is really a great guy! I have him on social media...very humble ans loves his fans!
Rudy's an awesome down to earth guy !
The definition of a pro. He is always prepared to play at his best. And, the number of acts that have called on him, and who trust him, to do the job proves it.
Rudy is such a wonderfully humble person. God bless you Rudy.
I miss Randy so much. He is an idol to me. I was 15 on that terrible day. I lost my grandmother on Monday of that week. All I wanted was to play in a great band and tour the world and record music for the rest of my life. Everything changed in an instant. I didnt touch a guitar for 14 months after that. My heart remains broken. My son is named after Randy. Love you Rudy! Stay well.💜
He’s just a class act. Thanks for posting
Rudy dropped gems..on occasion there's a innocent joke about Rudy playing in every band you can imagine but the reality is Rudy gets those situations because behind his playing he's a professional and you can't help but respect that..Rudy's "that dude"..great guy and a great asset to the music industry!
Rudy's resume simply lists the bands he Hasn't played for.
Rudy's the greatest
rudy is in Dee Sniders words "a utility bassist."
Agreed.Rudy is a pro and I think the glam and glory aren't on his radar at all who he has played with or not he just sees himself as a working musician.
No shit.Top 1000 my ass.Frankly I don't even know enough about bass to say is he good,&great or just ok or what...but obviously he is good enough to play with other professional musicians & his lifestyle is squared away enough to make it to work & be on tour where you just don't have the luxury of being sick tonight and things like that.People respect him due to his common sense and seeing himself not as a rock star but a working musician is how I see it.That's why I listen to what he has to say when he talks or gives advice to aspiring musicians.
Probably the most prolific bassist in all of hard rock/metal❤
Anytime I’ve seen him in concert he always steals the show, he has great stage presence!
As a bassist ... he's one of my heroes !!!! really blessed and humble man !!!
God bless Rudy💖
Much Love from South Florida miami..
Seems like a humble and grateful dude I enjoyed watching the video, thank for your honesty.
Always loved Rudy since I was 12. Most underrated bass player and one of the best in my opinion.
I know what it means. Talking bout less talented bass players that get more props. Sorry I ain't on the scene. Too busy running my construction business.
Rudy is a great guy. Hes SO genuine. He feels the way i do about bass.
Funny how Quiet Riot went from @ 04:59 "we couldn't even find a manager to handle the band" to having the highest selling debut rock album in history at the time....their run was short but, in their day, Quiet Riot was awesome.
All it took was a few Slade covers!

@@bobot1981 Oh yeah! No doubt! "Come On Feel The Noise" opened the door for them but honestly, there was not one single bad song on that Metal Health album...not one! It definitely could have stood on it's own with or without COFTN.
@@CaptainVelveeta great record
Kevin Dubrow was and always will be a Fucking clown. For christ sakes he died of cocaine abuse in his fifties!! Fucking loser.
@@bobot1981 True, but it worked.
He was in a lot of great bands. He looked the part.
The Randy Rhoads years were his shining moment.
He was there when Quiet Riot broke FIRST onto a MAJOR LABEL DEAL. Everyone in L.A. was getting signed after that.
Met him in 1988.
Nice guy. Solid Rock player. You dont see many musicians with this longevity. Rock on Rudy.
Rudy is such a humble and under rated bass player but in my view he is the personification of a rock musical god
i have to say ive been playing bass for many many years and rudy sarso has the most solid time ive ever heard in a bass player hes a human metronome
No. A Metronome is just a mechanical Rudy.
He deserves to work as much as he did!
Er? John Entwhistle? He had to keep time in for Keith Moon!
i'm the worlds biggest entwistle fan, but rudy's time is more solid
rockhard
Rudy could lick his guitar neck while jamming too!
🤣😎
Why He Has Always Been Hired. I Loved Him with Dio in Dio's Later Years..
What a blessing this man was to Ozzy and Sharon after Randy Rhodes died the day I was born.
No lie, when he was with Quiet Riot, me and my cousin wound up getting first row center seats at the old Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ.
When they took the stage, the house lights dimmed and Rudy was first on stage. Rudy came right up to me and my cuz and said "Cool, you guys got the seats. They were for my relatives but couldn't make it, enjoy the show fellas"
I will never forget that. I yelled THANK YOU and he flashed us the metal horns. Class act, all the way.
I adore Rudy. I met him in ‘83 w Quiet Riot just before they tipped over into the big time, and Rudy was genuinely kind. I think of him and would love to meet him again sometime, somewhere and chat again.
Rudy Sarzo is an amazing bass player; if you haven't seen him playing yet look for videos with Ozzy and Quiet Riot where he's present. You won't be disappointed.
Met him in Madison, WI. in '83 @ a bar then called Headliners. He and Quiet Riot were there to support their Metal Health album that was just taking off. Rudy was the person I really wanted to talk to, and yes, he was a very nice man. I expressed my sadness about Randy's passing and that I was sorry that Rudy had lost his friend. He was appreciative and quiet, and I always hope I didn't upset him by speaking of Randy. It was something that was still breaking my heart at the time and I wanted so much to express it. I also called Musonia and spoke with Delores Rhoads to offer my condolences. She said she could not believe just how many Randy fans there were out there who would call. She was very touched and just a sweet, sweet lady.
Rudy is such a cool dude and just unbelievable in concert!
after Randys death Sauron and Ozzy started messing with musicians. The way George Lynch and Jake E. Lee were treated is unexcusable, especially Jake.
Jake really re-established Ozzy after Randy's passing to the point he threatened Ozzy & Sharon. Jake wrote almost everything on both of those albums he did, and it was Ozzy biggest commercial success.
Sauron kk makes sense lol
A lot dealt with publishing rights. Jake stated he composed the first album after joining and Sharon informed him they were assuming the master tapes for Bark at the Moon. Jake had no legal protections and had to accept them taking the tapes or be fired on the spot. The next album Jake protected his publishing rights on The Ultimate Sin (1986) LP and.it went downhill after that. I think the same may have happened with George and he wanted out after reading the fine print of the contract........and even helping find his replacement (Lee).
I am not a fan of the way Ozzy handles his business but I must admit that he has a good ear for guitarists. Tony, Randy, Brad, Jake and Zack all got to enrich our lives because of Ozzy.
@@fullclipaudio yeah i think Ozzy and David Lee Roth had a battle going on back in the day, who could recruit the best guitar player.
Rudy, Is and always will be my favorite bassist. He has class and never threw people under the bus. God bless you!
Rudy is one of those RARE classy RnR guys. Always takes the high road when talking about others. From everything I've read, he wasn't necessarily treated that well by Sharon and I'm sure it was very difficult for him after Randy's death. But the guy is all class!
Rudy is such a lovely human being.
I went 2 a concert with my mom and dad last year at golden nugget in Las Vegas...When the band cameout rudy sarzo was in the band playing bass...My mouth dropped I was like that's the guy who was in ozzy's band...I think hes in humble pie...I forgot what band it was..
Met him when I was a little kid. Great man. Class act.
Rudy, hats off to you. You are a good guy. I most certainly appreciate all you work. I followed you since I was a kid. Very tallented.
MR. RUDY SARZO is truly an icon!!
Poor guy was suffering from massive PTSD when Randy died, I do not blame him at all,,,
Awesome bassist all the way around, and in every band he was in. Just a Great MUSICIAN.
You can see him tear up when he mentioned RR he’s been blessed to be their at the right and place !
Love his playing. Very underrated.
Rudy is simply the best
Rod Johnon ] How is it possible to even say what you said? Rudy has played with all most every band there is. He is NO where near under rated. Your as confused as they come.
What a sweetheart of a man. God bless.
Wonderful man right there. I love your music and I keep you in the highest regards as a human being. Thank you Rudy Sarzo.
Great guy and musician this is why he has played with so many great bands
I love seeing Rudy play....a true talent
He's always been one of my favorite musicians. Over the years he has always been someone to look to as a guide on how to be a great player and human being.
Rudy left Ozzy and returned to Quiet Riot and enjoyed success. A year later Brad Gillis left Ozzy and went back to Knight Ranger and enjoyed success as well.
What a time to be a guitar player in the early to mid 80's.
Outwardly he is a great commincator and very polite. I hope he lives by those virtues. Nice to see a good guy that put his nose to the grindstone in a crazy music world and won.
Rudy is probably one of the most underrated musicians! He is the consummate professional and so down to earth!
Well he is now out of the closet. So you prob like him even more now.
See. This is why I rarely post on RUclips. I make a genuine complimentary comment about a musician I admire and some knucklehead has to douche it up for me. Thanx.
Me too
HonkAtMyMonkey why do you keep copying and pasting the same comments repeatedly? Wtf dude. You think you are on to something no one else knows about..... gtfo
Underrated? He's known as one of the best bassist in heavy metal
Bob Daisley, the main lyricist on the first two albums, and Lee Kerslake really got shafted by Sharon. Both albums were recorded almost back to back. Daisley is such a gentleman and a very underrated lyricist and musician.. loosing those two was Ozzy’s biggest mistake...
Ozzy doesn't give a fuck about any of his musicians, despite he oughta make a monument to all of them, I believe the only reason he worship Randy is because of the huge footprint he left to many musicians and the amounts of money Randy made for him and Sharon Osbourne
If daisley got screwed over so bad why did he continue helping Ozzy album after album? It's his own fault for letting it happen
Probably murdering Randy Rhodes was a bigger mistake, lol
@@rfd73 Not true, musicians dumped by Ozzy have said Ozzy was great, and mostly didn't even know what was going on, and it all Sharon
The wicked Witch Sharon Osbourne
Wow....thank you for this interview!
Rudy can play. The live recordings say it all. He also has great stage presence and a great rock look.
Rudy is one of my favorite down to earth kickass guitarist of mine,, so glad he is still kicking serious ass in 2024
Such a beautiful story so heart wrenching so glad I saw this video.
RUDY THANKS FOR THE MUSIC AND GREAT PERFORMANCES ..YOIR ALWAYS SO HUMBLE AND AT PIECE WHILE TALKING ...R.I.P. RANDY RHOADS
After all I’ve heard in interviews from so many musicians about Sharon Osborne and for Rudy to not want to mention that side of her proves he’s a class act. He chose to only mention the positive where I would still find it perfectly acceptable if he mentioned the ugly side of that woman.
Got the pleasure to meet him years ago on a Dio Disciples tour years ago, was a great experience .
Rudy is a true Hall of Famer ! Randy will always be missed !
To get the love of making music back again ... it really comes down to that.
I met Rudy, with Randy and Ozzy, Sharon and Tommy A. I was a bellman working in Phoenix AZ at the then Hilton hotel. I was a employee so they didn't treat me like some crazed rabid fan. Ozzy was out of it, smoking, drinking, drugging out of his mind! Sharon at that time (the 80's) was a little heavy and didn't have all the cosmetic surgery yet. Being hispanic Rudy asked if I spoke Spanish? I told him yes and we continued talking in Spanish to me. He was totally down to earth, happy and grateful guy! I talked to Randy pretty extensively and he was a super cool guy (man he sure had a runny nose)! The only guy that wasn't cool but he still gave me his autograph was Tommy A. I was just a young man and I didn't know better, but I asked him "what happened to Pat Travers?" He got really quiet and said " it's just business man". After reading how Tommy had been through (he's been around) I can understand why the guy is a jerk still love his playing). Peace everyone and yes I remember when I heard the news about Randy! I was so bummed out but when I showed my autograph to my friend, I knew I met someone special. Peace and love.
Randy Rhodes 🌹✨
I remember the day he passes on - my school in California announced it on the school PA system and we had high school radio station KLEL Leland High school ... very sad time
Years later, I worked for Vinnie Paul & Diamond Darrell Abbott /“Pantera” for 15 yrs
and i was able to meet so many genuinely kindhearted musicians in the rock n roll industry
and most everyone spoke kindly of Randy Rhodes 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
(Of course Ozz-Fest Bands as well -Dallas Texas)
Linette Sue Crall aren’t you a special person in metal history. I’d like to hear more of your stories darling!
It was a Saturday.

When Rudy talks, you listen
Nice guys do finish 1st , killer career awesome player can't say a bad thing about this LEGEND.
I always loved Rudy Sarzo with Ozzy. He was so awesome..
Rudy seems like a really nice guy. I read his book, sent him a message on Facebook telling him I enjoyed his book. A couple days later he gets back to me thanking me for the compliment!!
I met Rudy (and his brother Robert) in 2013 when he was playing in Geoff Tate’s incarnation of Queensryche. He was such a friendly, kind person. Robert was really nice as well. Both of these guys were just really personable and classy individuals. Unfortunately, Geoff came across as a douche nozzle, but I will always remember Rudy for being so humble and welcoming. You really couldn’t ask for a nicer person.
This guy was and still is the Best around,he was so much part of my youth, major fan of his, good I wished he lived in PA, lol
ive talked to him once or twice on facebook. great guy. and one of my influences. sarzo and rhoads
My 2 favorite bassists.....Entwistle and Sarzo
A true legend who has played w the best.
Rudy is such a nice guy. Always answers any questions I have on X . Very cool.
That was one of Ozzy's best Lineups ever. Would have been great if Ozzy could have kept Rudy. Randy Rhoads a class act. He knew Rudy was the right guy and wow these guys helped put Ozzy back on the map again.
awesome interview. honest and down-to -earth. great performer and bass player,,,rr
He was always the quite one! Such a cool dude!!👍😎
Rudy was to QR what Mick Mars was to Motley. Both seem like truly nice people and talented as hell.
Gotta give kudos to Rudy for sticking to it. A lot of people had a piece of music die in them that fateful day in March of 1982.
Seen Rudy with different bands through the years. He’s a class act
Rudy is my fav bass player of all time. I always like that guy. He really kicked ass in Whitesnake!
He seems like a down to earth dude. Respect
