It’s funny how EVERY video of a BLACK woman ive seen with long hair most of the comments from other Black women saying that person only grew their hair that length due to their genetics when in fact genetics play NO part in the length of your hair! Now rate of hair growth may play a factor but bottom line they took proper care of their hair now give these women their kudos for their hard work and determination. YOU can do it too.

Exactly. Awkward length is shorter than how her hair was. When it's too short to really style it or the styling is difficult.

My hair growth journey is tumultuous. I'm trying to learn what my hair likes, what regime I will practice, how often should I use oil on my edges for traction alopecia, how often to moisturize it or if it is moisturized, and what products to use which is pretty expensive. I refuse to buy another product! Anyway, my hair journey started when I was tired of paying Stylists all my money and my hair was yet still in poor condition and I never received the styles I requested or the hair care I deserved. I decided I needed to do something so I went natural and am learning my hair for the first time in my life. My hair is now healthy, my edges are "slowly" filling in, and I am retaining length after years of paying Stylists to damage and not care for my hair! Thank you Jesus!

I’ve been following you since u started on YT. I started my natural journey in 2011 and cut my 2 or 3 inches of relaxed ends off in 2014. I’ve been natural since, but I had some setbacks with other ppl who are jealous doing my hair. It was growing like weeds when my hands only touched it and I watched YT for help. Over the years I became busy and lazy with work and school, so I slacked on taking care of my hair. In 2015, I started washing my hair every week and doing puffs and wash & go’s and my hair was so healthy and growing so nicely. I went back to lazy again bc life happened, so I just wore wigs and that’s it. Now for 2019, I want to get back to caring for my hair again so that it can grow to waist length. I know with hard work and dedication it’s possible. Happy New Year everyone! 🙏🏾

I enjoyed the video and understood the points that you were making. You have always had length to your hair, but it wasn’t until you began taking better case of it that it first got a lot thicker, then finally developed enough weight and length when curly to finally drop down and show it’s true brilliance.
I really liked the point about the work that you started doing in 2016 finally paying off in 2018. A lot of us naturals - definitely myself included - miss the point that really have to consistently take care of out hair in order for it to thrive. We can’t wait for it to look like the RUclips bloggers we watch then take care of our hair. We have to take care of our hair if we want it to eventually look like theirs.

•fluffy•kookie• that's bullshit. Skin color doesn't contribute anything to hair growth. Genetics only determines how fast your hair grows but you can still get long hair no matter your growth rate. You just have to understand your hair and growth rate and do what it takes to get that long hair. It takes determination. Ask yourself two questions: how badly do you want long hair and are you willing to do what it takes to get it?

Gorgeous hair. I’m curious, do the immediate relatives in your family also have lengthy hair? I’m asking because we all want super long hair, but some studies say that everyone has a genetic cap to how long their hair can reach (without putting locs in). I just wonder whether I am psyching myself out to want a length that genetically I may not be predisposed to reach. What are your thoughts?

For everybody saying genetics, it's not all about genetics. It's about what you put in your hair & what you put in your body. Diet helps with hair growth. Some things like carrots & avocadoes might not be so pleasant to taste, use your creative mind & make a juice or smoothie out of them. Add strawberries, different berries & fruits to make it taste better. Leave a moisturizing conditioner in your hair (such as Hollywood Cholesterol with olive oil), use an overhead dryer to help open up your pores to absorb the oils & moisture. Drink water. Some of you may need a detox 1st from your hair being stressed from heat damage, chemicals & what you have eaten. If you have too much candida in your body, you might need to detox that too. Use a candida cleanse & wash your hair with antifungal shampoo. I know people who's hair never grew below their neck for 20 years. They used antifungal shampoo & their hair grew to their waist.

Genetics definitely play a part, let's be real. Yes black women can grow long hair but our hair tends to be dry which causes breakage, other nationalities tend to have the opposite problem, they have oily hair which is why they need to wash hair daily. They dont usually have the breakage African American women do which is why we have to deep condition, hot oil treatments and moisturize, etc. I find alot of these videos on RUclips of mixed women giving their versions of how to grow your hair long 🤨. Her hair is beautiful nonetheless

For me I dont like my shrinkage, I use Cantu leave in conditoner. Apply it generously at the ends first right out of the shower. Then let it air dry. Till it 99% dry. Then I twist it and put it In a bun. And my curls become elongated still curly and bouncy. I'm mixed by the way with 3b-3c hair type. This will not work for you of you have 4a-4c.

If you have the time to read this then anything is possible
I was born with a heart condition called “hypo plastic left heard syndrome” yeh I mouth full. This condition is very rare as it is where you only have half of a heart not full. With this condition it includes some stuff that u may not like, one being not getting long hair!
When I was 5 years old I hardly had hair. When I turned 7 my hair was just above my ears and it stayed like that till i was 9. Then I slowly realised some change. My hair grew!!! I was so happy cause it taken a year to grow an inch for me. And my hair was shoulder length. I decided to take care of my hair even more and hoped it would boost it.
In a year I grew about 4-5 inches so when I was 11 my hair was about 4 inches passed my shoulders. Then I heard of the “inversion method” it’s basically when you turn your head down and massage it for like 5 minutes. I have done this for 2 years now and I really haven’t done anything to my hair including heat.
Right now my hair is half way through my butt😂👏🏽( I said that. ) and 3 inches passed my belly button. ❤️ doctors are surprised. People who have the same condition as me don’t have hair at all and some only have hair that make them look like a male 😭 ima pray for them
But honestly if I can get long hair in my condition I know you can too!

      @samiraa3671 5 лет назад +14

I noticed that a lot of RUclipsrs like to use the word fast when describing their hair growing journey. But if you pay attention you'll notice that their hair is growing at the average rate of 1/2 an inch a month. This lady for instance began with about shoulder length hair in 2014. So from 2014 to 2018 she should have grown about 24 inches of extra hair, at the average rate. From the video,I would say that she grew her hair at the normal rate. The only difference between her and many other people is that she took good care of it by moisturizing and avoiding heat, therefore she was able to maintain most of the length. Avoid heat, damaging styles, moisture constantly, and you'll be able to achieve your desired length. Not fast, it takes time, but You'll get there.

I never really took care of it like moisturizing or washing it consistently but maybe during the summer I could start getting into treatments like this and it could hopefully get to you length 😁.

EVERY TIME and I do mean every time I see a video of a Black woman with long hair I see more Black women saying oh it’s mostly genetics which is so annoying because I literally don’t see this kind of talk on any other race/ethnic women’s videos smh y’all need to get it together. I feel like by saying this you are discrediting all the hard work someone put in to achieve their healthy hair. I also have not ever seen this proven by Science so it’s just folklore to me. With hard work I’m sure we can ALL have the kind of hair we want.
