Stylist, must absolutely love what they do much more than the money. They take their time and does such an amazing job. My granddaughter's have have like the young lady in the video and was receiving the silk press but it started taking a toll on their hair. Became damaged and started breaking.
Your absolutely right! Stylist really should care about people (I know I do). And yes, too many silk presses can definitely take a toll after a while. My daughter only silk presses 1-3 times a year. I really appreciate you watching 🫶🏽

I love the steam part, I purchased steamer with a hood and prefer that to no hood at all letting the steam get away, but just my preference.

Thank you 🫶🏽 I always kept it in braids when she was little. I try to avoid manipulation at all costs. And i use an herbal hair oil on her hair.

What are your favorite protective styles? Do you wash or moisturize while in protective styles? I don’t wear wigs or weave so I feel limited. Your daughters hair is beautiful and healthy. I’m trying to get past shoulder length.
Thank you!! For my daughter, she does braids and buns mostly. Some would say that’s more of a low manipulation style vs protective though 🤷🏽♀️ I think the key for her length retention has been us keeping it in styles that require the least amount of detangling. So she hardly ever wears her natural curls out (unfortunately). And we try to keep it stretched and moisturized.
Oh yea, and yes we shampoo and condition while in braids. I’ve been liking Camille Rose sprays for moisture.

How do you like the babyliss flat iron? I wanted to get it but saw mixed reviews? It looks like it's doing a great job to me. As a stylist myself i have so many flat irons and don't need anymore but i liked that it said you can get the roots good with it. I'm a sucker for electronics and hair tools😩
Hey!! I do like it a lot for getting in there close to the roots. But I’ll be honest, it’s not my favorite of all time. I like it for straight styles mainly. Curling with this rootreacher can be kind of tricky but it does get the job done for loose curls.

I have a question. I’ve seen other stylist use a steam instrument similar to the one you’re using when washing a client’s hair. What’s the benefit for the hair?
The steam opens up the hair’s cuticle and allows the conditioner to penetrate in better. It’s more moisturizing then using the dry heat from a traditional hooded dryer. I also like to use it on clients that have product build up while I’m shampooing to help cleanse the hair.

Facts!! The most beautiful and versatile hair! I actually miss when my hair was super short how my curls went upwards towards the sky 🥰 One day I’ll probably cut mine again.
I used to get my hair permed when i was younger. However I decided to go natural at 18; My grandmother used to do them, but i dont trust myself or anybody else, I also got sick of the process and didn't want to risk health issues because of a perm.. I wanna start getting my hair silk pressed (don't want to go back to perms) because, even though I love my natural hair, having to keep up with it in its curly state is becoming a bit much, esp when I'm tired from work in the day + have school in the evening. I know continuous heat isn't good in the long run either (willing to stop at any time to allow my hair to grow back healthier if it ever calls for it), but how long should one wait in between silk presses to get one on a regular basis? Any product recommendations for maintenance?
I usually recommend doing silk presses only for short periods of time. It really depends on your lifestyle (working out for example)and weather in your area. You can get back to back presses as long as you set timeframes out of the year to do protective hairstyles. Or at least low manipulation hairstyles. Amika has an anti humidity spray called The shield that protects the hair from frizz during the week. I tell my clients do not under any circumstance use heat in between washes! So frizz prevention and proper wrapping at night is the key to maintaining a healthy silk press.

What hair dryer is this bc that looks better using the attachment than using a brush
It’s a CHI nano 💕. I definitely like the pic attachments when working with long or thick hair cause it helps me detangle gently. Sometimes I go in afterwards and use a paddle brush and concentrator to smooth it more when needed. I appreciate you watching 🫶🏽

What herbal oil do you use on her hair?
I make a natural oil at home with a combination of a lot of different herbs and oils. I actually have a video on my channel of me making it if you wanna check it out.

Thank you. I didn’t think I could grow my hair past my shoulders until I saw how long I was able to grow hers lol. I started protective styling consistently and 🤯 boom my hair grew to waist length!
What did you spray on the hair before blow drying? Any serums before flat ironing?
I used a product that I used to sell on my Etsy shop. It’s called Drenched. It’s a lightweight leave in conditioner. I also like Amika products, but I didn’t use them this particular time. Amika has a great serum you can use prior to heat styling called blockage.

Can you grow out your hair only doing silk wraps
Great question! I believe you can but you may not have as much length retention. Without breaks of protective hairstyling, you risk the chance of needing more trims because your hair is exposed. Instead of silk pressing all year, I usually recommend blow drying if your texture is the type of texture that prefers to be stretched. My daughter gets her hair blow dried several times a year (because stretched hair tangles less). But we usually only flat iron once a year.
What oil did you use please?
I usually make an herbal oil for her hair. I’ve been using herbal oil on her since she was a baby. But I don’t use it on her during the heat styling process.
