I’d argue there’s a secondary part to stage 6. You truly don’t care, but bc of all the wisdom and knowledge you’ve acquired, you develop a personal uniform which elevates you to a higher stage. Stage 7: constant drip

Haven’t watched the full vid yet but can only see the beginning. Just wanted to say I love how you express yourself that you don’t have to live in LA or NY to be “someone” you can talk about clothes with wherever you are in the states/world and that’s what you explained and I love that. There’s a lot of fly people that live anywhere in the states. So thank you for pointing that out in the beginning and expressing how you feel about that.

Coping my way through expensive purchases in stage 4 is just too accurate. $400+ is a bargain now. "But it's vegetable tanned leather..." or "I got it 60% off", and it's still $500. Also some in stage 6 transcend the regular wear. They just wear basics but have so much class.

ahaha at stage 3 here, i don't have a pair of cdg converses though, but if i may add a little more details about that stage, here is what i got :
for me, it's definitely when people around you start to find your outfits "ugly", like "nah bro, that ain't it, you're doing too much" type thing. you tend to care less about what's trendy but look more into some niche inspirations and try to consume more responsibly in a way, without spending too much on it, because, you know, you're kind of broke at that moment
ps: i'm sincerely happy to see that you finally found your way into that complex world that is the one of a fashion content creator in 2024, hope to see you more, doing what you do the best man, keep pushing!🤙🏾🤙🏾

I've honestly kind of reached "fashion satisfaction", where I'm at peace with my style. I know what I like, I know what fits, and I know some off the wall ways I can experiment with my looks. Maybe there's more than one "Utopia". It's not about having the most clothes, maybe it's about loving every piece in your wardrobe equally.

Let me tell you my story. For me, that first "click" was simply the idea that I wanted to buy clothes in a size that fits me. That seemed like enough. I didn't have the problem of thinking brand names were important, and thus thinking that money and style were intrinsically connected. People complimented teenage me for having a sense of style because I wore clothes that fit nicely. I thought brands were overpriced, covered in distracting symbols and lettering, and showed I was impressionable and susceptible to advertising. My parents loved brands, so I rejected that. If something fit me and the life I envisioned, I bought it. My own creativity was more important to my ego than sponsoring the lame doodle on the side of a pair of CDG Converse.
I also wanted money for other things. When I was a teenager, I had a lot of growing to do. I thought maybe if I had travelled places and experienced things no one else had, I would be better off than if I spent all my money on trending clothes items.

I'm at the end of stage 6, where I bounce back to stage 4. I feel at that point you're bouncing around those two stages until you reach the enlightenment that is stage 5.
I never bought into designer clothes at retail because I have experience and knowledge working high end retail security jobs where people care about brand image over sustainably made, semi bifl quality pieces.
Now my minimalistic attitude coupled with my knowledge lends me to thinking about timeless classics. Heavy Raw denim outerwear, plain white ts, thrifted quality jeans or others sustainably made in usa and resoleable boots, or thrifted combat boots because quality, dependable, mendable clothes are far superior than anything with a big tacky logo or embroidered back pockets or whatever.

Stage whatever finding a uniform is. I think finding great pieces that you can wear repeatedly saves money, kills impulse purchasing, and enforces intentional wear/styling. Find a good uniform, acquire some good accessories and shoes/boots, sprinkle in some trend items that are timeless and classic.

IMO stage 6 is when you realize that no matter how u dress, u will be perceived and categorized by others. and u will do the same to them.
So even if you "don't care" about what people think, you will see other people in everyday life who WILL influence what styles you avoid or which styles you gravitate towards.
For example a person who wears archive fashion and says they "don't care" about other peoples opinions, would never wear sambas and jorts even if they think they're lowkey cool. In other words they're still acutely aware of the societal implications of any given style and will dress accordingly. Just in a counter culture way.
Once u realize that, u can start playing around with that concept. Wearing fits that look like stage 1 but that also have certain things about them that show that you've been through it all, if the other person knows whats up. Fits that look bad to people in the middle stages, but you are aware of that and that's why you dress that way. There's definetely irony in wearing AF1's when you're in stage 6 but at the same time all stages, except stage1, are just a reaction to previous stages, which makes them all valid and the same.
Knowing that, u can start adapting some aspects of earlier stages because now you're an outsider to those groups, which means you can be inspired by them again and wear the kinda fits that could be liked by anyone in stage 1 & 6 but never by anyone in the middle stages.
There's nothing like walking around in random ugly black boots that have white laces with shorts that are too long and nerdy square glasses, and seeing the fashion mf's double checking, not being able to tell if I'm in stage 1 or 6. Meanwhile normal people ignore me and never judge me bc I look like them, even though in my mind I'm walking around like a crazy person.

Insıghtful video. I agree pretty much wholeheartedly with the first four stages, but I think you are selling the fifth a bit short. It is less about finding perfection and more about not feeling the need to overextend yourself either financially or or time wise in search of style. The focus becomes very narrow because you are not actively seeking to replace most of the foundational pieces in your closet, but you are still enjoying the process and are willing to pivot in new directions if there is an internal logic behind them. The real benefit of this stage is not being so concerned that scoring one piece is going to make of break you. The wardrobe is in the background a bit so you can reprioritize your attention and return to hobbies or activities that may have fallen by the wayside, but without abandoning fashion all together. It isn't necessarily a permanent thing either. Circumstances change and your can slip back into stage four or or move to six where apathy sets in.
I'd also argue that most people aren't going to reach the contentment stage until they are out of school and various adult routines are established. Maybe it is possible in the late 20s, but more likely 30s or 40s. I'm in the latter category. I found I was in stage four for late twenties and early thirties. I went into complete apathy for about half a decade. Not so bad as regressing to stage one, but just repeating things that I had that worked and not taking much interest in finding new pieces. 2020 left a lot of time for self reflection and I returned to stage four for a couple of years and explored for a bit. For the last year or so, I think I'm safely in the contentment stage where I'm still adding carefully selected pieces, but not spending half of my free time on second hand sites or the SSense sale.

I saw it on peoples faces on the street and deep in myself. What's the POINT, i asked myself ? Of creating this so called "personal style" when it is still based on human group-psychology. Imagine this = You are ALL ALONE on this planet. Are you still gonna be designing your wardrobe for yourSelf ?. This philosophical Question makes a logical but dystopian point, so useless :) Jevon you're all right about staying in that stage 4 man.
