Sun-Ra is another fashionable jazz icon. He was one of the godfathers of Afro-futurism and definitely influenced the likes of Erykah Badu and Andre 3000’s style. I would also throw in the late Roy Hargrove into the street formal look. He’s been rocking like that since the 90s. You really can’t top the “hip-factor” of a jazz musician!
Thoughtfully created and well done video fam. I personally love the more formal attire especially as I grow older. A more mature and timeless look imo. cheers.
Agree, what I don't like is that my personal style, formal streetwear is being consumed by the masses. What I like is that, one piece can change the whole narrative of the outfit. The accessories! You slap a whole suit head to toe, match the tie with a snapback or any type of headwear. Boom! Wear a tucked in T-shirt, jeans, sneakers and finish with a beret. Boom! It's like running from streetwear and formal, and meeting in the middle.
Holy shit I can't believe I just stumbled upon the greatest fashion content ever. You're so surgical with it. You got answers for questions that aren't even there yet in my mind. Peak RUclips.
such a good video, i feel like my style has shifted into this category over the past 2-3 years and i’ve had a hard time finding the term / word to describe it. Formal streetwear is perfect
This has been around for a long time. It’s sort of what one end of Casual ended up in. My part of the world has a lot of shops that deliver this look with a lot of the labels you mention
i absolutely hate this style but also think the individual pieces are really good. the execution is literally what hypebeasts were doing back in the day but it just looks more refined and considerate. Wearing all expensive brands isnt inherently stylish but it is seen as fashionable.
Very good video thank you. When mentioning the name of a piece or brand it’d be nice if you could write it down or show a pic of its logo or something bc many times i can’t type them in google. Thank you!
I have seen new clients who want me to make them dress shirts, polo shirts, suit coats, waistcoats, and trousers. They just like the creative side of formal clothing like all of the endless fabrics and details.
Really liked this video but not mentioning Lemaire is criminal. Absolutely THE leading high fashion brand when stylistically considering this lineage of dressing.
I think if you’re a stylish person it should translate to your overall life. Calling out people for “coping your style” lol is not being stylish . Be flattered and keep it moving we all get inspiration from someone or something. None of these people in this video are originals of any of these styles. Great video keep it positive and uplifting
Yeah, it’s a stretch to think Tyler stole that look from Nast since Tyler been rocking leopard print for almost a decade, and sweater vests are not a new style (technically it should be called the Wes Anderson look, he’s been doing it for more than 25 years, is Nast giving Wes his flowers? No? Thought not) Like all styles, they revolve back into popularity. Just because it got big in the hip hop world recently, doesn’t mean other people haven’t been wearing them as part of their style for decades. I’d also want to ask Nast where he stole his style from because many many people have dressed like him for decades and decades, he isn’t even close to inventing that look. Just read Black Ivy by Jason Jules and you’ll see how long it’s been around. I did like the phrase “someone who has crated a wardrobe that fits their own individuality” which is hilarious when you consider how homogenized style/fashion is today for the average person.
I do love the baggy pants with a fitted upper look, I’ve loved that silhouette for years and often wear it for a dressy casual function. I’ll also add that I don’t care how big loafers get, I’ll rarely wear them since I dislike the overall look of them, but that’s not to say I dislike dress shoes (and there are tons of comfortable dress shoes now) I will say girls can rock the hell out of loafers with the right outfit.
You should do a video on classic heritage Americana but it’s not on tiktok so idk. Its essentially going back to Marlon Brando- engineer or service boots, japanese selvedge denim jeans, tubular knit tees, bombers & leather motorcycle jackets. Best style
Cheap formal footwear made of synthetic materials is uncomfortable. Get a pair of high quality leather footwear that uses little to no synthetic materials and is goodyear welted/blake stitched, and they will be comfortable, just not in the foamy/squishy way sneakers do.
Why is fashion so focused in New York? I get that New York is high in fashion, but there are other parts of U.S that need some love or more fashion exposure, Come on!
I agree in a sense but truly the only reason it looks that way is because younger people are wearing stereotyped older people clothing, you can’t wear sweatpants and dunks forever, when style is done right it’s quite elegant, but in some cases I have seen it used for green washing
I agree it looks terminally online, they are essentially outing themselves as middle-upper class suburban social media freaks. Its really cringe I bet these people never faced adversity in their lives.
What the hell did I just watch?? Seems like these kids are just stealing classic fabrics and colors but abandoning the value of fit and silhouette. By the way wear your new shoes around the house for a week or so to break them in. No need to wear tea cozies as shoes. I miss when streetwear was just athleisure.
I understand where your coming from. Taking the cloth but not keeping the traditional look. I would say that alot of times I dont even like some of the modern restyling's of certain shirts and pants but people always want something that feel fresh and new. And right now the overarching trend for everything is baggy/comfortable , understated quality, and formal adjacent styles. I think its good that people are buying things they can wear for many years. Nikes, jordan and underarmor is cool to workout in but wearing it all the time sometimes makes you look immature.

So basically pieces that juxtapose each other but in a semi formal and streetwear type way. I love it
You're a sheep.
Formal street wear been the style for the mature since 2021 in my opinion
Everything got so weird after 2020. Everything is labeled. I wasn’t even aware I was wearing ‘Gorpcore’.
right! like just not caring about what you wear is now called Adam Sandler Core 💀💀💀
90% of Asia has been running formal streetwear for years

Formal streetwear is Aime Leon Dore adjacent imo.
Lol: Yes Aime is a UP1 GUCCI ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ DONT FORGET THEO LONDON
I have figured it out… just formal enough to get you in places.. but if you end up at a night club you don’t look too pressed up for it either

Nast has drip, without a doubt. But bro thought he invented a button down shirt/shorts/sneakers...
Yes that look is so common. People have worn that for more than 50 years now.

Cole-Haan had these oxfords that had Nike Air soles and they were so dope. I couldn't afford fuck all in 2002 so yeah.

Kenijima probably had the biggest impact in the online fashion sphere when it comes to formal streetwear since like 2019/2020
3:48 the Swedish leather motorcycle jacket is a sick piece to own, definitely not cheap but really nice item I wanna add to my wardrobe.
It’s like a duffel coat jacket with how it uses a toggle enclosure system.

lot of good shoes made of synthetic. leather is outdated, also ugly.
