When returning home and you have the actual "return to home" function enabled hold the right stick forward instead of doing 17 miles an hour back you'll do 29 you get home a lot faster and it doesn't kill your battery like it would if you were in sport mode..... I always always do this I do it with my mavic Pro...(instead of rth 22 i get 31mph) same with my p4p too.. you will also stay in return to home mode so it's not like pressing the right stick will take you out of it figured this trick out a few years ago I always tell everybody about it it's nice LOL.. you can actually get a little more range out of it because you're saving leg on the way home so you can take it a little farther... anyways this is especially helpful if winds started to pick up on your way home you will get a little more speed.. nice Run tho! :)
This is good to know. I thought that touching the controller sticks might terminate RTH. Right stick forward means full nose-down tilt. I take it the left stick throttle should not be touched during RTH?
Good stuff. Gives me a lot of confidence. The furtherest I have flown so far over water was 1300 ft. And that was scary. Love the dog at the end going nuts over the drone.
Very nice demonstration of the Mavic Air's ability! Where I live there is a lot of water and I am trying to get up the nerve to fly along the coastline but I think I will wait until I am more skilled with my Air. I know it's easy to fly but I am not much of a risk taker (yet). Thumbs up to you!
great test - i am in the city so i don't get nearly as far distance. I would be scared to try the 4k run, but I love that the advertisements aren't lying for the product. thanks!
That's awesome bro...I finally just got me a Mavic Air and I'm crazy about it for real. I thought my Bebop 2 was bad ass...and it was but the MA blows it out the water.
Great test Eric! My P4 with stock antenna I've hit 3.1 miles before I lost my video feed. Over the water seems to carry the signal farther, but makes me nervous! I have pushed it out and lost all signal, the time that it takes to go into auto RTH, and waiting to get a connection again, seems like an eternity! Range test flying into the wind on the way out sounds like common sense, but I've seen too many videos where guys haven't did that, so that is a great tip brother!
Fantastic test and thank you ! I have an Air and I live out of the city , every time I try get some distance from about 400 meters I start getting ALL sorts of warning ! Lost connect etc etc so I say Stuff this I am turning around !! I have never got to 500 without it saying Connect lost etc , very very nerve wracking , let alone 4000 meters
Maybe this is dumb question. But did you check both the controller and the aircraft for firmware updates. Someone on a different channel was having those same issues and firmware updates corrected it. So I thought I would mention it. Also I noticed my spark has that type of issue if I don’t but my phone in airplane mode, I suspect the Bluetooth from the phone causes some interference. I could be way off base on that as I’m absolutely no expert, but simply putting my phone into airplane mode cleared up the interference. I wish you only the best of luck getting your range issues sorted out though.
Awesome, now if i could just move to where you live all would be great. Lol. I live in Philadelphia and I'm truly lucky to get 2000ft without rth that's On a good day. My mavic doesn't do much better at about 6000ft before rth. LOL. With that being said i absolutely still love this mavic air simply for the portability of the drone. It goes everywhere with me now. Awesome video. Thx friend Michael
PhillyDroneLife Michael D I got 11,000ft one way over congested Central Florida. Had my signal stayed strong it would of went a little bit further BUT the battery would not of made it home. I landed with 10%. Altitude 300ft 5-10mph wind, flew out against and returned with. That’s the limit for my particular Air.
Nice video, I have to disagree about getting maximum range and not using sport mode, the increased speed gets more distance than the same amount of battery drain in p-mode. At least when it comes to my mavic air. I honestly got 16200 feet under ideal conditions with no wind , I reversed the drone rather than turning it around returning until I figured it wouldn’t lose signal turning around , they seem to get better reception facing away from the controller, I also used a set of those antenna boosters that slide over the antenna, it landed with 11 percent battery left, I normally don’t push my battery past 20 percent though, I range tested once out in the middle of no where with perfect weather conditions. I think it would have went further, but I was down to 54 percent battery, it was a nerve racking last 3 or 4 thousand feet, it’s why I never repeated any type of range test, I was also not educated on the visual line of site rule , so I stick to 4 to 5 hundred feet now days.
mgr5550 this was fixed with firmware update I have not experienced the off gimble since update there was high wind that day which I believe contributed to this error
Nice, maybe not a good idea to do range tests over water though in case it struggles to get back? Buying one of these as an upgrade to the spark. Still small and compact but oh so much better.
I made sure I stayed right along the coast in case I needed to land the coast was nearby I would not recommend testing over water if there is no land nearby.
The battery is what limits this drone. I couldn’t go past 11,000ft at 350ft alt. Over central Florida with a mild wind. That’s impressive 13,123feet, I wish these had a little bit more battery life.
I got goose bumps by watching this video. :) I've Just Bought myself a Mavic Air, and one thing is reading its cappabilities in a piece of paper, but seeing it for real is a totally different thing. Thanks for the video. Greetings from Portugal.
Very interesting. But... letting the machine blow up sand so it'd easily get into the drone, into the motor housings.... The sand grains were visibly dancing up/down in front of the camera after touchdown.
Donald Martim. He is filming in 1080/30fps, using screen capture on his phone so he is probably only showing a 720p image, add RUclips compression = poor picture quality but the purpose of the demo was range. At the end he says he will post the full 4k footage in a separate video so give that a look.
I'm sorry, but I OCD about this stuff but it's DJI and not DGI, I know you know this but the way you pronounce it is making me go crazy! But great video man good job!
two things I noticed. First, you came home slower although you were RTH with the wind. I'd try to cancel RTH next time and fly it back manually (if connection is good). Second you craft seem to fly forward with 30° to the right of the craft. You can see that in your flight path, because the red arrow is not pointing in the flight direction.
Tobias Tesching yes I did notice the tilt maybe due to only having 7 sats I guess rth speed is slower than Just manually flying but all in all a success she came back to me! Thanks for Watching please like share and subscribe

@@mgr5550 not sure I do know that most of the android flagship phones like Samsung galaxy series moto x series and google pixel phones usually work pretty well I think it may tell you on the app in the playstore what operating systems are compatible

Petarboom it's 500 meters in the app, unless you are recording footage of something that is over 400 feet tall this is well over legal FAA regulated 400 feet in the United States
Thank you very much! Here in Spain we have very similar (if not the same) restrictions. The maximum altitude is 120m above ground level, or 120m above the highest obstacle within a radius of 150m (500 ft). The purpose of my question is that I want the drone to climb a canyon which is 400m high from the river at the bottom, maintaining an altitude of 30m AGL during the climbing. Than you again!
8/ms is slow going.... it would come back faster not in RTH mode. then if you put it in atti mode, it will come back even faster. 8ms is way to slow, mavic air should be able to cruz with the wind at 15-20ms in normal mode, atti 20-25ms. basiclly your using more battery at 8ms flowing with the wind, than say 20ms going with the wind just due to the amount of time your in the air.
Sorry, missed that. Such a handy app. Seemed a lot stronger. What elevation to you have that wind speed at? I put mine at 308 ft. On my version of that app it show the elevation you set it at.
gareth5000 it may go further but battery will deplete faster which may cause low voltage landing before it can make it back home dji states in there manual that when they did the range test it was not in sport mode for that reason
I've just done some research and it looks like you are right, gps will give you 10% more distance than sport mode. (At least with a Mavic) ruclips.net/video/cgO6CdgnE2o/видео.html I'll try what Mike suggests below...

Sorry, missed that. Such a handy app. Seemed a lot stronger. What elevation to you have that wind speed at? I put mine at 308 ft. On my version of that app it show the elevation you set it at.
swooshdave mine does sometimes
So do you mind sharing what elevation it's set at?
swooshdave I just set the elevation to 315 feet got it now thanks I did not realize you could change
I disagree, it will go further in sport. My Spark does anyway...
It will do 4000m plus.
gareth5000 it may go further but battery will deplete faster which may cause low voltage landing before it can make it back home dji states in there manual that when they did the range test it was not in sport mode for that reason
Man, your quick to respond! I'll sub you for that:)
I've just done some research and it looks like you are right, gps will give you 10% more distance than sport mode. (At least with a Mavic) ruclips.net/video/cgO6CdgnE2o/видео.html
I'll try what Mike suggests below...
300 metres and mine struggles. 🤦♂️
