@Sub 2 Me 4 No Reason it's just a book! All of humanity needs to realize that the medium in which a story is told does not inherently devalue the quality of a story, in fact stories in the past have been elevated by the medium they are a part of.
A good friend of mine told me that when he got to the part of the game with the operating room, he killed all surgeons present for the operation. Without a millisecond of hesitation. All three of them. With his flamethrower. When told he didn't need to kill all of them, he refused to believe it. To him, the game forced him to kill them. Even when we told him that he was right when it came to the first, who had to die, he kept to his belief that NaughtyDog forced his hand when it came to the other two. This is my go-to example of this game's ability to draw you into its world, to make you "become" the characters you play as, through its excellent narrative and superbly written characters. When it comes to protecting those he cares about, Joel is a merciless killing machine. No matter how cringe it may sound, during the final area of the game, my friend "became" Joel, doing what he would do to save Ellie. Anything and everything. To his mind, three _enemies_ stood between him and Ellie. The last two being _on the floor, begging for mercy_ after witnessing the brutal killing of their boss didn't matter, they were threats to her safety... _they'd just come after her._ 58:32 is gonna be a thing with these retrospectives, isn't it?
To this day, the David boss ‘fight’ remains one of the most intense sequences ever. There’s something so off-putting about his crouching/creeping movements that send a chill down my spine. I'd forgotten how much I loved this game. Not being much of a console player, felt like that detracted from the experience somewhat, but nevertheless was an amazing experience. The sort of impact is this game has.. kinda rare.
-17:00 on my last playthrough of TLOU I started to wonder if Ellie had worked out that she wouldn't survive the operation by this point. I don't know WHERE she would have got this from- maybe the lab (with the monkeys?) - there were some X-rays I remember of skulls and the parasite growth along the brain stem? And so she might have started to figure out that this wasn't a "blood" thing. And invasive surgery on the brain is a risky business at the best of times. The fact that she talks so plainly about being prepared to give up her life in the second game ("my life would have MEANT something!") Indicates that she might have known it was 50/50 at best. And she submitted herself to it. This gives her final scene with Joel in TLOU#1 an extra kick - if you caught it. She didn't expect to be alive. Man I still remember seeing that scene for the first time. And Knowing- this was the BEST gaming experience I'd ever damn well had. So sad it was over. So glad they ended ill that way. So relieved I didn't have to go through anymore lol. Lastly there's the whole issue of fungal infection and vaccination. It's very peculiar because of course you can't vaccinate against fungal infection, so they would have been looking to isolate the nature of Ellie's immunity- which could be Anything. According to the characters it IS something to do with HER fungal mutation growing in her head, and they need to remove it and that will kill her. It's unfortunate they use the word vaccine, I think what they mean is isolate the element in Ellie's fungus, it having mutated in the petri dish of Ellie's body chemist's into something that guarantees a benign reaction to infection. It could be you take it AFTER you're infected to AUGMENT the fungal infection with whatever it is that hair made Ellie immune. But I'm on medical or bio expert.

Troy Baker's performance as Joel never fails to impress. Can't wait to revisit this masterpiece on PC with the remake. It's going to be a completely new experience.
A great game with a depth story as Attack on Titan season 4. Who is the enemy in TLOU2, or are they all the bad ones? Perspectives made TLOU2 a masterpiece.
Fantastic video. I replayed this game so many times, experiencing Joel letting his guard down and Ellie learning to trust home was a great experience. This makes the story decisions in last of us 2 make me hate it even more. Last of us is Joel and Ellie, not one or the other. Gutted.
I haven't played this game myself, and don't really plan to, but when I watched a playthrough of it, I thought that that scene didn't really make sense to me, when Sam is turning from being infected. Clearly Henry could see that for himself, and yet, simply because Sam was his brother, he shoots Joel's leg to keep him from killing him. I mean, he may've been his little brother, but with him being infected and turning like he was, taking him out was the best thing.
See for me it works because it's real. It doesn't feel like a hollywood orchestrated sad moment, it feel raw and genuine. This 14 year old girl just saw someone kill themselves, the reaction is visceral
@@LazerzZ For me, Ellie saying “omg” feels like the story writers subliminally telling me specifically how I’m supposed to feel about what just happened. Whereas Joel’s facial expression can be looked into deeper. You have a general idea of what he’s feeling but can’t pinpoint the exact emotion. It’s more left up to interpretation but the point still gets across that Joel is either disturbed, sad, shocked, or a combination. How you personally feel about the scene is what you see in Joel’s face. Personally, I felt like Joel’s facial expression said it all and the “omg” felt unnecessary and forced. I just prefer when stories lean more towards showing emotion and leaving things up to interpretation. That’s just my opinion though.
Finished this game earlier this week and my main complaint was the downtime. I don’t think there’s a lack of downtime, it is balanced very well I just don’t think there’s enough meaningful downtime. They seem to substitute good character moments for just more world building that’s self explanatory. I don’t need to know Joel didn’t stay in a 5 star hotel because I already know from the intro he lived a middle class life. Sure it lets Ellie know a bit more about Joel but that’s entirely irrelevant since an apocalypse has happened and Joel is a different person now. One of my favourite bits of dialogue in this game is Ellie’s dream, it gives insight into her character and how like the plane, she’s spiralling downwards out of control with no pilot, the pilot being a lack of a parental figure to guide her in this dark world. That’s great use of downtime but it’s rarely used like that so in the end instead of seeing a relationship slowly develop through story beats and gameplay I’m only seeing the story beats which are done through cutscene. It felt like I had to go through walking, killing clickers and people just to see the next cutscene instead of just enjoying the moment to moment gameplay. Sure not every gameplay moment NEEDS to serve a narrative but I just felt it was lacking especially after playing UC4 and seeing Nate and Elena trying to figure out their relationship and how it’s going to move forward while navigating a hostile island filled with death traps and mercenaries. It just feels wasted in comparison

As an uncle, I can’t say I would’ve done different. Looking forward for the video on TLOU2
Their recreation of SLC is interesting for sure
As an uncle, I can’t say I would’ve done different. Anyone who still begrudges Joel’s final decision either have NEVER considered what they would really do if they had kids or would absolutely sacrifice the life of their own children for “the right thing” which makes them look like sociopaths that value “the right thing” over their child
Joel is the most bad ass good guy ever..even with the name Joel.. No one gonna stop joel wick
