  • This is not good ! Amazing how much Lava has already creeped into Svartsengi despite all efforts to cool it again with water and move materials with Dozers and a lot of heavy equipment.
    THANK YOU so much for your support it is much appreciated and helps a lot !

    Hi Silki, I've been watching all of your videos from the Gold Coast of Australia since the first eruption in November. I share your concerns. I am wondering now, can they not dig channels instead of walls to direct the lava flows where they would cause less harm? Channels would not cause the same build up as the walls do? I don't know - that is just my instincts - at least the carpet would not be so high if it were to go into a dug out channel rather than a built up wall.
    BTW - I was a massive Fraggle Rock fan as an 80s kid - those little busy guys were called Doozers - which seems very apt for what is happening in Iceland. I think the big guys who ate the Doozers constructions were called Gorgs.
    I loved Fraggle Rock so much that I named my pet chicken Gobo after the main character. I love hearing you refer to Fraggles.
    Keep up the great work Silki - with love from a daily watcher in Australia.

    Dig a hole inside the berm, this will cause the encroaching lava to slow as it fills the hole - maybe give enough time for a more permanent solution
    puncture the volcano on the north wall to stop feeding the lava on the south / west

  • @tanyalove6983
    @tanyalove6983 7 дней назад

    Omg before this eruption I said that if there is a big deflation of the land that occured that the lava could pour into the blue lagoon and power plant area. Well that fire truck looks so tiny like a guy peeing on the lava flow. So the reason I made that prediction was that if there is a big deflation that means the fissure opened up a lot and the lava will flow easily out and keep pouring out instead of reflating the land. However look at the charts the land is ever slowly rising up as lava continues to pour out. We shall see what happens. I give it a 30 percent to 70 percent chance of containment. What they need to do is to put a new series of walls higher than the existing wall. Each subsequent wall should be higher. Than the lava may flow into a different direction like towards Grindavik. So the best solution is to create higher series of walls where the lava can solidify. Good luck and best wishes.

    Could they do the same thing firefighters use to fight forest fires - dunking those water tubs in the ocean and dropping them in that area? I mean, yes smoke will happen, not sure about ash or toxic clouds though (because i just don't know enough folks - be kind). Could that be a help to their situation?

      I think what happened is that some of the lava was going into lava tubes which was building up these last weeks under the old dry lava like the shallow roots of a tree, while the rest was from the cone. Now since the lava tubes have established themselves the cone is pushing all the lava into the lava tubes, thus lowering the lava in the cone.

    Well shoot! Id better get into town and get a horse trough so i can enjoy the show! The shizzy really hit the fizzy and i was caught off guard. I have a suggestion for where to put the lava, they wint like it, but I'm all for redirecting it to the Blue Lagoon. They wanted a hot pool to swim in, that should be hot enough. I knew the volcano was going to throw them a curveball. I think its time for them to seriously consider looking for a new place to build a power plant. A couple weeks ago i saw an article saying that the defense walls saved Grindavik. But did they? I'm not convinced. I think these defense walls are more of just trying to prevent the inevitable. Sooner or later the volcano is going to reclaim the land around it. They can only build so high and each progressive eruption is just going to out down a thicker layer of magma.

  • @barba7741
    @barba7741 7 дней назад

    Could it be ? This is a Shield Volcano forming. Lava is building up underneath a 'carpet' of cooled lava. It doesn't need to spend the energy to spew forth from the lava cone, when it can easily flow into this thick, building, lava lake and tubes. Patient and Persistent. In pulses. Building a shield volcano. I would like to see a measure of how thick and how hot, is the area underneath and surrounding the cone? I admire the courage of those working on protecting the power plant and town. But I hope that they are looking at the bigger picture.

    I wonder if they could use water tanker aircraft to douse the lava kind of like the way water is dropped on forest fires?

    At what point should Svartsengi and Grindavik be abandoned? Perhaps as part of all this, they should be trying to salvage as much as they can from the town and the power plant, using resources to relocate out of danger? Can any other place be useful for hydrothermal generation?
