I do not think that it's necessary to have more than 20 reps of basics. In fact I have some clients that struggle with 10 pullups but are able to do a clean backlever (and don't have any injuries or problems). And, sorry for my late reply, university kept me busy. I also had planche basic exercises like leans etc. in my plan when my basic reps of pullups were 8 on 5 sets. One does not necessarily exclude the other as long as your joints and ligaments can deal with the stress put on them. You need to find the balance. That's the most important.
