Most, if not all of our traditional ZOOs are like that. One (ZOO Dvůr Králové) is also the only one anywhere in the world still keeping the northern white rhino from extinction - four of them originally. They even established a reservation in Africa and flew them across in hopes they would finally breed, because the program was unsuccessful in captivity. Unfortunately, the males passed away since, but the program managed to save their sperm. And while the females are incapable of delivering offspring (one is too old and not sure about the other one), the program managed to retrieve eggs and is continuing to do so (with safety of the animals in mind, of course), in hopes the closely related and far less endangered southern white rhino could then carry the babies for them. The ZOO in Plzeň is successfully breeding barbary lions and chimpanzees, and the list just goes on ;)

Personally I can't wait for the new polar bear enclosure. We visited twice last year, once in the middle of a snow spell at the beginning of December, and although some animals were obviously sleeping or hiding, the lack of visitors and frosty trees was a welcome new look
As a Prague resident, I have been to the zoo many times. Every time I'm in the zoo, I am there like 5-6 hours, and I was never able to walk through the whole zoo in one visit! It's that huge!
hi Czech here, the Prague ZOO is awesome, huge achievments to some animals, but in my opinion ZOO in Zlín isnt behind, so if u come to chzech again, u should visit, you wont regret it. Btw keep doing those videos, looks awesome
Beautiful shots of the animals! Would love to see more of the habitats itself. And an overview map of the zoo maybe. Enjoyed this very much. Looking forward to the next one.
Prague is amazing but it is overshadowing one more EQUALLY amazing and important zoo in the Czech Republic, which is the Lešná aka Zoo Zlín (the city name). It is gorgeous, original, takes pristine care of the animals and has their own important reintroduction programs. But sadly everyone only ever know about Prague cause it's the main city :/ There's many zoos in our country but these two are the absolute peak and they both deserve to be visited equally.
@@ZSHzootours oh hell yeah I'd be so happy to see you there. It's obviously smaller than Prague but it's absolutely gorgeous and it just feels so calming and satisfying to be there. Also there is one huge and awesome part that not even Prague has, but I won't spoil that to you!
Wow! This Zoo looks incredible with it's rare collection of animals, futher shows how zoos in Europe has an amazing diversity compared to us in the states. I'm definitely putting Prague Zoo on my must visit list. Also, I noticed that the Takin's in this video are actually Mishmi Takins, because of their darker colors, and they are INCREDIBLY rare in zoos. You're so lucky you've got to see them.
Yes, that has been pointed out to me, I didn't realise! Apparently Mishmi are actually the most commonly held in Europe. I wish RUclips let you edit voiceovers after the fact, thanks for the info!
Prague Zoo has many Worlds 1st... Those people ale pretty good at their job. In our country we have many Zoo(s), not only in the PRague. The Pragues Zoo is good because f money from trourists. But y can find very interesting Zoo all around this country. Mainly in Morava. Im from Olomouc and there is amazing Zoo heavenly perfect for kids - most of this Zoo is in forrest. But every Zoo in our country is just lovely. We love nature so much!
I am from prague but these last three years i lived in olomouc and olomouc zoo is also incredible. Quite smaller, yes, but it has some amazing habitats and multiple wolf species (which was awesome to see and hear in the night hours before closing).
Loving these tours! Using these videos to create a bucket list of zoos and wildlife parks to visit in the future. If you can, try dartmoor zoo, it has an incredible story, and even has a book and film associated with it called 'We bought a zoo'.
I managed to get two visits to Prague zoo when I was there and I think it was necessary to view the incredible diversity of one of the most species rich zoos in the world. You should also have done Plzen for that reason
Great video, I am glad you liked the visit. I highly recommend books by Miroslav Bobek, the director of the Prague Zoo! They are full of short stories and notes from his journeys, conservation efforts, life at zoo and its history etc. They are called The Red Librarian and Vultures in the Continental Hotel. New one is coming out this year as well. They are absolutely wonderful! ♥️
Amazing video and tour, I havent been to the Prague zoo in almost a decade now, but it honestly looks amazing so Im definitely looking to make a trip there again!
ZSHzootours Thank you for the very nice tour video. And I agree, Prague ZOO is really amazing. I was absolutely stunned by the new gorilla exhibit in the northern part at my visit this spring and I can´t wait for the new polar bear exhibit to be finished - and I´ll be back there to see it! Highly recommend this ZOO to everyone!
You should really go see a ZOO in Hradec Králové in Czech Republic. Almost every ZOO in out country tries its best to create a good habitat for animals, but this one took it a step further, making the whole ZOO Africa themed. They got rid of some animals (took them to other ZOOs) to make it authentic. It is not perfect, but it is actually amazing what did they do over just one decade
One of the giant chinese slamanders is atually currently (as far as we know) the biggest in the world - his name is Karlo 😄 The salamanders are closely associted witch Czech literature. There's a very famous book by Czech author Karel Čapek where the salamanders / giant newts defeat the mankind and take over the world.
I visit Prague ZOO at least every year and there's always something new. I would like to recommend another ZOO for next time you visit CZ the Dvur Kralove Zoo, it's even bigger and has a safari tour, where you can either take the bus tour or drive through it in your car.
Amazing tour! If you think that this tropical house is insane, i can tell you that Burgers zoo in the netherlands has 3 huge indoor area's, including one for manatees. I Will be visiting the zoo in two weeks, and if you want, i can get you some video's, photo's or anything like that. Keep it up!

Hi! Nice to see a video about our Zoo! Regarding the polar bears, I understand that they are sad in their current habitat, but as for the proposed new enclosure: it's incredibly expensive and unlikely to be paid off by visitor revenue alone. So the question is whether we, as taxpayers, are willing to contribute to preserving the bears. Personally, I believe it would be more effective to focus on preserving them in regions with more suitable climates, where it would also be cheaper. The cost of the new enclosure is estimated to be around $50 million (and likely to increase). Based on my calculations, it would take about 625 years to pay off. The zoo currently receives 1.4 million visitors annually. Even if the new exhibit attracts 10% more visitors (an additional 140,000 people), and assuming an average entrance fee of around $14 (though there are discounts), that only generates about $100k in extra in revenue per year. So the math doesn't really add up in favor of the investment.
Absolutely seconded! I visit at least once a year and it's amazing to see the zoo grow and develop. Right now, for example, they're working on a massive African safari area called Karibuni. Similarly to Prague, the zoo is located in a gorgeous hilly forest and the atmosphere is just unmatched. And although it has no animals, one of my favourite parts is the Japanese garden - so tranquil! Even more beautiful than Prague Zoo for me.
Was just gonna say that! I don't know if they still do it, but when I was there, they had scheduled commentary feeding for some animals. The caretaker will offer a nice mix of facts about the animal, feeding them, and how they take care of them at the zoo. It's quite fun!
@@esuterunokitsune3556 They do still do them! You can find the schedule online. The most interesting for me are the jaguars because, if you're lucky, you can see them hunt underwater which is just amazing to see.
Good to hear such praise from someone who's been to so many other ZOOs. If you missed the Darwin's crater, that's a bit of a shame. But the Zoo is indeed huge. I rarely visit all parts of it in one visit, but rather choose to focus on certain areas and explore/observe them in detail. I also like to visit at different time of day to get the best out of otherwise inactive animals. I've been to all the Czech ZOOs as well as Vienna, Berlin, London, Chester, Toronto. Our Prague Zoo really holds up well. Biggest glaring flaw is the horribly outdated Polar Bear enclosure, like you described. They are so popular (with the kids especially).. I just cannot understand how the directors and the city could overlook them for so long. Well, the new Arctic pavilon is in construction now and if it will resemble the one I've seen in Toronto for example, the bears and the visitors will be much happier I think. If you ever get a chance to visit the Moravian ZOO trio of Zlin + Olomouc + Ostrava, those are well worth a visit.
I am proud, we have such a beautiful ZOO in our country. We have more beautiful ZOOs, but they are not as much visited by tourists, as the ZOO in Prague. I live in the town called Jihlava, and we have also beautiful ZOO here, altough it is much smaller 😁
If you ever come back to Czech republic, visit Zoo Zlin Lešná. Its in the east of a country in small, but very interesting city called Zlin, and for such a "local" zoo, it matches, and to some extend outperforms the Prague Zoo. And it is not very well known! :)
The european groud sqirrels are being taken care of since they dont live in forests but in low vegetation plains, which is a rare habitat in their region nowdays and they are endangered as a result. We have them in the "wild" in Brno, living on a hobbyist airfield (a grass one), which is also close to the zoo but I'm not sure if the zoo itself has them or not :)
Im personally not that big of a fan of your average zoo animals, like african elephants and lions. Obv i still love them but i want to see the wierd, the rare, the overlooked species that are left behind in an attempt to bring spectacle so people buy a ticket. But im SO glad that this zoo has plenty of both, would definetly visit given the opportunity and i'd probably spend my day in there lol. (Also shoebill my beloved
Hey man love the content. Just a suggestion, try to bring down your camera exposure down a bit since right now the brightness really desaturates the whole picture and doesn't really bring out how beautiful some of these guys are. Good luck!
Very cool! I would like to go some day. Hopefully the animals already showing the pacing behavior already had this problem when arriving at this zoo, and aren't experiencing it because of too little space or boredom. Looks awesome from a human perspective though!
The only animals I saw pacing were the Tiger & Leopard and they were next to the doors leading to the keeper's section so potentially were waiting to be fed.
Great tour! I was wondering whether you'd say it was better than Tiergarten shcönbrunn? Because I know I would rather go to a smaller zoo (idk if it is smaller) that I know is doing great conservation work then a larger zoo with a load of unhappy animals in far too small enclosures (I'm not saying that either zoo is like this it's just my opinion on zoos in general)
Let me start by saying this is a great video, it was a real treat and excuse the lengthy comment.. I really want to see more of the gharial habitat, and giant salamander not just the animals. You had just an absolutely incredible shot of the salamander and showing off their size but not their habitat. Then the gharials.. You had such a stunning shot of them with the turtles, the absolute highlight of the video for me, but I wanted to see more of the habitat too with them in their environment. If there just wasn't much space or the shot wasn't right, it was uninteresting, too many people, etc then so be it. Just making it known that I am here for everything not just the perfect shots of the animals (Which you do incredibly btw). Seriously though great video, this isn't even a criticism, more like a wish list, because I know I will never be there myself.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Photography is actually banned in the Giant Salamander habitat 😆 Unfortunately the signage telling you this is... not very large and almost identical to the standard 'no flash photography' sign that you often see so I didn't realise it meant ALL photography. The footage you see in the video is all I got before a member of staff pounced on me! As for the Gharial that's probably my fault, I should have shot more. I think it is improving in each tour so expect better in future. This was only the third zoo tour I filmed so still learning what works.
14:50 if you like those kind of habitat there a french zoo that I got to see twice build in a mountain that chose to not heavily terraform and display a lot of mountain animal there even takin and a mix habitat of wolf and bear in a giant rocky natural slope it’s name is parc animalier d auvegne ( zoo of auvergne a middle french region )
13:22 North American river otter… 😂 just realized they’d be rare in overseas zoos. Small local zoo near me has them, along with a lot of North American species. I think lions were the most “exotic”, because of their focus on native species (native to N. America).
You've probably already been recommended it before, but Kolmården Zoo in Sweden would probably be a neat addition to your list if it isn't on there already! Lots of cool habitats, situated in a really pretty forest with a cableway ride, as well as a restaurant that overlooks a vast stretch of nature.
I was about to feel proud about our zoo, but then I looked over my shoulder and saw my half built boa contrictor enclosure and... lets just say the pride left my body as qiuckly as it entered it.
You can pretty easily, it takes like 7 hours. Been there last month after like 4 years with my family, and explored the whole ZOO in 7 hours, from 10am to 5pm. Also you have to plan your route, so you don't keep going to places you've been to already. This is easy as well.
I wonder if it is this rescuing philosophy of the Prague zoo that influenced all others; I live not too far away from ZOO Dvur Kralove and been there many times and they are also leaders in breeding endangered species and bringing them back into the wild. Used to love to go there with my family. Now that I'm older and found a new love for animals I never had, I'll make sure to visit it myself at some point soon.
Enjoy!
I didn't try it for Austria but the prague zoo you can walkalong with Google street view. made following the tour even more immersive.
You've rekindled a love for zoos i had since my youth and growing up near one. i don't even play planet zoo but your videos are amazing man.
Aww thank you so much!
That’s sooo cool, might have to put Prague on the holiday list lol
Personally I can't wait for the new polar bear enclosure. We visited twice last year, once in the middle of a snow spell at the beginning of December, and although some animals were obviously sleeping or hiding, the lack of visitors and frosty trees was a welcome new look
I bet that was beautiful!
As a Prague resident, I have been to the zoo many times. Every time I'm in the zoo, I am there like 5-6 hours, and I was never able to walk through the whole zoo in one visit! It's that huge!
It's a biggun!
It brings tears to my eyes to hear such words of praise about something I am so proud 🥲 thank you for giving spotlight to our zoo ☺️
No problem!
Zoos are evil.
hi Czech here, the Prague ZOO is awesome, huge achievments to some animals, but in my opinion ZOO in Zlín isnt behind, so if u come to chzech again, u should visit, you wont regret it. Btw keep doing those videos, looks awesome
Thanks for the tip! I've had a lot of recommendations for Zlin and other Czech zoos actually. Would love to come back one day!
a delightful cute little docu. Thanks for making it, I hope you find success and get to make more of these.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful shots of the animals! Would love to see more of the habitats itself. And an overview map of the zoo maybe. Enjoyed this very much. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks! I'll try and get more habitat shots in future. I'm planning to incorporate zoo maps from next week as well
Prague is amazing but it is overshadowing one more EQUALLY amazing and important zoo in the Czech Republic, which is the Lešná aka Zoo Zlín (the city name). It is gorgeous, original, takes pristine care of the animals and has their own important reintroduction programs. But sadly everyone only ever know about Prague cause it's the main city :/
There's many zoos in our country but these two are the absolute peak and they both deserve to be visited equally.
You're the third person to recommend it, I'll try and go one day!
Great Inspiration For Planet Zoo. Thank You SO MUCH For Touring Such Historic and Beatiful Zoo
Glad you enjoyed it!
super excited for this video, im from czechia!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@ZSHzootours you can be sure 😼
@@ZSHzootours It's all good. I actually saw some at the San Diego Zoo earlier this year, and I think they're the only ones in the states!
As far as i know Golden Takins are in the Liberec Zoo that is in the north part of Czech Republic.
Holy sh*t a cute red panda
Isn’t it!
Quite smaller, yes, but it has some amazing habitats and multiple wolf species (which was awesome to see and hear in the night hours before closing).
i spend my whole childhood there) lovely memories 💖
Loving these tours! Using these videos to create a bucket list of zoos and wildlife parks to visit in the future. If you can, try dartmoor zoo, it has an incredible story, and even has a book and film associated with it called 'We bought a zoo'.
Thanks! I've read the book! Would like to go there one day.
I managed to get two visits to Prague zoo when I was there and I think it was necessary to view the incredible diversity of one of the most species rich zoos in the world. You should also have done Plzen for that reason
Plzen is on the list, one day!
Thanks for the tip! I love a good zoo book!
Amazing video and tour, I havent been to the Prague zoo in almost a decade now, but it honestly looks amazing so Im definitely looking to make a trip there again!
Thanks!
I managed to miss the new Gorilla bit, didn't realise there was two 😆
Amazing video! Just found the channel and looking forward for more!! Much love from Brazil‼
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Great channel idea, and with the commentary too
Welcome to the channel!
Thanks for the tip! It's already on my list, hopefully one day I can tour it
Wow I would love to go to this zoo! Great video mate! Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot!
enjoy the content and would love to see more shots of the habitat as well as the animals. keep up the good work
Thanks, I’ll try and get more habitat shots in future
One of the giant chinese slamanders is atually currently (as far as we know) the biggest in the world - his name is Karlo 😄
The salamanders are closely associted witch Czech literature. There's a very famous book by Czech author Karel Čapek where the salamanders / giant newts defeat the mankind and take over the world.
Wow!
i've once seen two red panda's play fight in Rotterdam zoo, unfortunatly i was to late to get it on camera but it was still amazing to see
Aw cute!
The prague zoo also has javan green magpies, one of the most endangered birds in the world!
Oh yeh? I'm not really a bird guy so I wouldn't have even realised 😆
Another great video, looking forward for next week :)
Thanks! Next one is out tomorrow 😁
I visit Prague ZOO at least every year and there's always something new. I would like to recommend another ZOO for next time you visit CZ the Dvur Kralove Zoo, it's even bigger and has a safari tour, where you can either take the bus tour or drive through it in your car.
Thanks for the tip, Dvur Kralove is on the list, hopefully one day I can tour it!

If you think that this tropical house is insane, i can tell you that Burgers zoo in the netherlands has 3 huge indoor area's, including one for manatees.
I Will be visiting the zoo in two weeks, and if you want, i can get you some video's, photo's or anything like that.
Keep it up!
I'm hoping to go myself soon, it looks amazing!
Absolutely loved this, your commentary and chosen shots make it a really good watch! Hopefully we will start to see some inspiration from these zoo visits in your own! Also would love to see you tour UK zoos, so i know where to plan my next trip 🤣

That's really interesting, I hadn't thought about it like that. I presume the zoo gets government funding as well?
❤❤🎉😊 Forever😅zoo
finally a new tour
Yup 😁
Amazing video ❤ thank you
Thank you!
I recommend visiting the Zoo Zlín in the Czech Republic, for me it is the most beautiful zoo in the CZ ❤
Thanks for the recommendation
Navíc tam teď mají mladé kapybary
what a beautiful zoo 🤩
It is!
Zlin has been highly recommended, not heard of Olomouc or Ostrave though. Looks like I need another trip 😁
Wow, this zoo is amazing, great video!
Thanks!
I am proud, we have such a beautiful ZOO in our country. We have more beautiful ZOOs, but they are not as much visited by tourists, as the ZOO in Prague. I live in the town called Jihlava, and we have also beautiful ZOO here, altough it is much smaller 😁
What's it called?
GOOD VIDEO!
Thanks!
Hello from Czech Republic
Hello!
8:37 I swear every time I visit the Prague zoo I get to meet this peacock wandering around.
you should visit Pilsen Zoo.. also pretty good, with a Dinosaur park sort of thing..
nice goat wall
Have you seen the Darwin crater section? It's one of the newest parts of the zoo.
I missed it sadly, was on a very tight schedule that day!
hi. or in Czech Ahoj. thank you for beatififull video. the yurt make near prewalski horses is work of my firm.
Hello! You did a great job! Best Przewalski's habitat I've seen!
If you ever come back to Czech republic, visit Zoo Zlin Lešná. Its in the east of a country in small, but very interesting city called Zlin, and for such a "local" zoo, it matches, and to some extend outperforms the Prague Zoo. And it is not very well known! :)
Thanks for the tip! It's already on my list, hopefully one day I can tour it
The european groud sqirrels are being taken care of since they dont live in forests but in low vegetation plains, which is a rare habitat in their region nowdays and they are endangered as a result. We have them in the "wild" in Brno, living on a hobbyist airfield (a grass one), which is also close to the zoo but I'm not sure if the zoo itself has them or not :)
did my thesis working with the gorilla group before the move to the new enclosure, the zoo is very protective
👞💸 ❤
Hey man love the content. Just a suggestion, try to bring down your camera exposure down a bit since right now the brightness really desaturates the whole picture and doesn't really bring out how beautiful some of these guys are. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip. I noticed this when editing and reduced it as much as possible but will try and solve the issue at source in future
@@ZSHzootours love your videos
@@ZSHzootours I see! It is very hard to decide without doing a study, so one can only assume. Thank you for the reply, made me happy :)
I've lived in Czechia for years now and Czech ppl in general seem to care ab animals, which is nice imo 🤷🏾♀️
You certainly have some amazing zoos!
Have you ever been to pairi daiza it’s my favorite zoo. You can spend the entire day there and not even see everything because it’s so big.
No but it is very much on my list!

Thank you! I've been to Chester and loved it, tour coming soon! I will add the other two to the list!
Please visit Zlín zoo, most beatiful looking zoo in my opinion
Thanks for the rec
Thanks! It's hard to choose, I think Prague is the better zoo but I just love old zoo architecture so Vienna will always be one of my favourites!
@@ZSHzootours Ohh that makes with the giant salamander. At least you weren’t kicked out haha
Sounds amazing!
13:22 North American river otter… 😂 just realized they’d be rare in overseas zoos. Small local zoo near me has them, along with a lot of North American species. I think lions were the most “exotic”, because of their focus on native species (native to N. America).
Yeh we have European River Otters here so I guess there's not much call to import the American ones.
Great video, but how much time do you actually save by saying “orang” instead of orangutan 😂😂😂. I love this new channel.
You know why, I always said 'Orangatang' when I was a kid and now I struggle to pronounce it correctly so I shorten it to make my life easier 😆

You should go to the Fuerteventura zoo. Probably the best zoo ive been to. (im czech btw so i can confirm that the Prague zoo is great!)
Thanks for the tip, I've never heard of it!
You've probably already been recommended it before, but Kolmården Zoo in Sweden would probably be a neat addition to your list if it isn't on there already! Lots of cool habitats, situated in a really pretty forest with a cableway ride, as well as a restaurant that overlooks a vast stretch of nature.
Sounds great, I only know the big faux rock entrance! Thanks for the suggestion.
I was about to feel proud about our zoo, but then I looked over my shoulder and saw my half built boa contrictor enclosure and... lets just say the pride left my body as qiuckly as it entered it.
i would recomend zoo & tierpark berlin.
also pairi daiza
Thanks for the rec, all on my list, hopefully one day!
1:00 of course we are the cutest, always
the fact you cant see ll animals in a zoo due to time is a demonstration of the zoos size
Yup!
Yep, Prague zoo is massive. I think I walked at least 10km and still haven't see all animals.
It's a pretty big ZOO focusing on Africa and they have a huge drive-through Safari - If you havent been, I heavily recommend it.
Also pretty much any other zoo or animal park i've ever been to in Czechia have at least one or two species where they work on reintroducing them to natural habitats; It's something I can take pride in as a Czech person who loves animals ♥
Yes, Czechia seems to be full of great zoos!
