I did everything in the video step by step. Once I got to the end and tried to use the FBI apps to start downloading games FBI DIDN'T SHOW UP! I GOT AN ERROR CODE! HOW DO I FIX MY DS!!!!
When I go to settings and into MicroSD card, it kicks me out of settings. Is it because I didn’t go into safe mode? My R trigger stopped working and my L trigger fell off years ago. It could also be the files aren’t how it is in the video, but my computer doesn’t let me fix that. WHAT DO I DO 😭

Do NOT follow this video, he states to "update to the most recent software" which is NOW 11.17! IF YOU DO THAT, YOU CANNOT INSTALL CFW
I made this mistake following the video a few days ago and "updated my system" like the video said!!!
When you click the DSiWare, at about 16:20, it does NOT boot into bb3

For those who followed all the steps correctly and clicked the dsi ware button in the settings. Make sure you've taken out your sd card and flipped the small switch on the side, it's what's preventing you from actually writing anything onto your storage device. Hope this helps!

@@foxwith_a_spoon8628 its on the left side (facing the printed side with the micro sd card facing you) and is labeled "lock". slide it in the opposite direction of the arrow (usually towards the micro sd but may vary idk)

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR 3DS TO THE MOST RECENT VERSION PRIOR TO INSTALLING CFW!
A few days ago, Nintendo released a firmware update. (11.17) This update patched all current methods of installing custom firmware, including the one shown in this video. You need Ver. 11.16 or earlier to install custom firmware.
It’s still possible on 11.17, but you need a flash cart like the R4 or Gateway.
EDIT: This only affects old 3DS/2DS systems. If your system is one of the “”New”” models, this update doesn’t change anything. You’re also safe to update your old or “new” system to 11.17 after installing CFW, so long as your version of Luma3DS is the latest version.
EDIT 2: Modders found a new exploit that works on 11.17 for “old” consoles called the MSET9 exploit. It’s slightly more difficult but it works for the new update. Please only use the written guide and not video guides as they can be inaccurate or outdated.
Yeah its low key annoying, Eshop is down and the console is out of it's lifecycle, but we can still issue updates that prevent people from playing games. Classic Nintendo.

HI, i got caught on a snag. during the part where we go into DS@ware. my screen doesnt go black. it gives me multiple question marks and with the option of copy or delete. i rewatched the video and started fresh. any idea where i might miss a step that gives me that promt? please and thank you

PSA If your on anything but the New 3ds models :Do Not Proceed DO NOT UPDATE to 11.17! If you update you will be stuck waiting till its cracked for Old 3ds and 2ds.Hoped this helped save some of you the headache. P.s I went to the hacking guide and did it from there. This didn't work for me. I'm using the original 3DS XL and it has been updated to Ver. 11.17.0-50U which apparently means I can't homebrew it this way. I tried all of the steps above, and when I go to selecting the SD card in data management only random letters and a bunch of boxes with question marks appeared. No black screen with the install option. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to try a different way?
I got the same thing so I’m going to try this one I found that’s only 3 days old when I’m writing this so if it works I’ll edit this comment with the link.
Did you get GodMode9 to download? When I do it it shows up as “unconfirmed” and tells me the file wasn’t available or check internet connection

Yes, thank you so much! I've been planning on hacking my 3DS' (I own 4: Two original 3DS, a "NEW" 3DS XL, and a "NEW" 2DS XL). I wanted to hack my "NEW" 3DS XL since it's my primary one, but I wanna test this out on one of my standard 3DS first.
This new hacking instructions seems a lot easier compared to the previous ones and I'm looking forward on using it! Thanks. 👍
Edit: I've finally modded my "New" 3DS XL. I even upgraded the MicroSD into a 1TB one. Surely it takes longer to turn on, but it still works wonders! I'm now backing up my 3DS games so I could download the digital copies. Thank you. 😁

17:00 I am not sure how or why but at the DSi Storage step my 3DS would glitch out and restart itself. I found that after I backed up and removed all my photos, all other files in the ID1 folder (including backup, dbs, title) and everything besides F00D43D5 in the Nintendo DSiWare folder then it booted properly. I hope this helps someone who follows all the other steps and gets stuck on this step. Great video and I'm grateful for the update!

Followed to the T and it did not work, why? It came up with no menu on the dsi ware and my slider on the sd card was in the correct position. I have no idea why things went wrong. There is not enough info about what type of sd card to use. I reformatted a micro sd card to 32fat and used it in an adapter for a classic 3ds xl. This does not make any sense.

You never mentioned we needed another SD storage card for this, I just did all this on a 4gb card and ran out of storage.

It may ask you that the folder already exists and if you want to overwrite essentials.exefs Select Overwrite Files and Press A if it asks you

Seed Miner is definitely the easiest and most streamlined method of installing CFW. I just used it on all 3 on the consoles that I've modded.
Nice! I have no idea why YT gets its britches in a twist about that website. It's all good, though.
If I had to guess, they're probably trying to actually take bots and certain links more seriously on the platform after the LTT hack. That's just a guess though. The website doesn't even make it that easy to find either since they added new methods of installation. I just googled Seed Miner and it came right up though. Still super easy all together. :)

Makes sense. There are slightly different processes, depending on the system software, region, and model of the 2DS or 3DS. Enjoy the modded system!
so when i open the the Nintendo 3Ds folder i actually get 3 separate sub folders, 1 that says private, and 2 that have different dates and file sizes so i don't know which one to copy

If you want to get game backups later on I would get at least a 64gb sd card
anyone looking at this today (may 23 2023) don't update to most recent software as they patched out bannerbomb. or if you did (like me) we just have to wait for a new method
I use Linux Mint on my system, but I believe I'll be able to follow the instructions using the file manager provided by the OS.
I followed all steps, but when I open data management, dsiware it does not boot up, I only reads a file with numbers and symbols. Every file is where it needs to be. Am using a new 3DS. Please help.

If I jailbroke using your last video tutorial will this not work on my 3DS? Should I even worry about upgrading?
As long as you are already running custom firmware, you're good to go. There's an app that's typically installed during the jailbreak process called Universal Updater. You can update your homebrew from there rather than having to uninstall and reinstall apps or overwrite them manually. Good stuff.

Crazy useful vid. But closing the snickerstream is a hassle. Cannot click close button or righ-click close it. what I do instead of closing the 3ds first is ctrl-altl-tab and just close the active program snickerstream.
Do NOT update, because in 1.17.0-50 update you cant use soft unlock methods for old 3DS family.
I am having a nightmare with it. Cannot open the .bin files on my mac, download the unarchiver and win zip and still files wont open. Even borrowed my mother in laws windows laptop and still the .bin files wont open

Hey, idk if you will see this but after putting all the files on the SD card and reinserting it wont read the sd card anymore, it was reading it before so any ideas on what i might have done wrong
in your backup folder u have the copied files right? I’m assuming u mean reinserting on your ds system. You can copy the backup files back on to the usb drive just it case it is deleted.

i did all of this up to 18:52, then press a to reset. it never came back on. it gives off a blue flash on the power button then turn off. no setting afterwards

hay i have a question what do i do if only the bottom screen turns red but the top doesn't and wont turn green?
