this is my favourite interpretation of this piece because Sokolov's interpretation is unique... the "usual" interpretation other pianists do is like it paints a murky deep water where danger looms in, something hidden and mysterious giving an unsettling feeling of danger.... but its only Sokolov's interpretation that paints a ship battling the high seas in a thunderstorm, violent huge waves, Kraken been released.. the drama of it all!!! lols...

I like the full and expressive sound, powerful, lyrical bass melody and fluid arpeggios.... I think Pollini sounded very polished but stiff in comparison, and doesn't flow like this... BUT I feel many of those thunderous bass notes arrive a little too early and seem rushed, like the time was chopped away, reducing the grandeur and gravity of the melody. I thought "wow you can make it sound like this! But why not relax a bit?! Why in such a hurry?" Still it was great.
