  • Asian carp are 4 different species of introduced fish that have caused ecological and economical catastrophes since their introductions. In this video I cover some common questions asked about these fishes.
Four species are under the term Asian carp. The Black carp, Silver carp, Bighead carp and Grass carp.
I've personally worked with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and commercial fishermen in Kentucky surveying and getting rid of these invasive species.
A special thank you to the commercial fishermen at Aurora Fish Company and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks biologists for letting me help.

In Italy we have the opposite problem. Catfish often outcompete the common carp, beeing the majority of biomass in some lakes. Good luck with the carp.

Thank you! What are some tactics that are used to control the catfish there?

@@invasivebrews Nothing spectacular like bowfishing or plana financed by the authorities. At least not some important projects. Basically, with some conditions hydrovirus and other patogens appear and reduce drastically the population.

@@invasivebrews Another important contribution Is the impact of the pre-extant professional fishing. Though they are not very Happy to catch these things. As regards me i use their meat to fish Louisiana crayfish( Another invasive that has exterminated our local crayfish and amphibians) and Blue crabs, but It Is not quite widespread. To conclude catfish( Channel and Brown)plus the blues pose a Major threat for the european eel, classified as a critical by the IUCN.
Sorry if i have been too long with my speech 😃
