- Featured on The Weather Channel's "Weather Caught On Camera" series. Sorry for the crappy camera work in the raw footage This is the first video I ever recorded with a DSLR, so apologies for not staying wide (all the zooming was me trying to set the manual focus).
-------------
This was recorded in New Berlin, WI @ appx 3pm on Sept. 17th, 2012. Action gets started just before the 2:00 mark; microburst peaks at 3:00, hail continues after that. This storm was severe warned, although for wind, not hail. Maximum hail size was nickel, although it felt larger being pelted by it. Pretty sure this was a microburst event given the intensity of the precipitation at 2:54-ish and the reversal of wind near the end. No damage to report thankfully, just the mounds of hail that persisted hours after the event. Don't forget to watch in 1080p. :) Before and after image gallery here: imgur.com/a/FawNc
Someone really loves that zoom button
Wow, someone really loves that zoom ring.
@@BrewCityChaser damn you really disproved his point about how you zoom too damn much by saying there isn't a zoom button, bravo 👏👏
@@adventurefighter7501 DSLR’s have something that looks like a ring, you twist it to zoom in and out.
@Don Mean Pretty sure he knows they are saying he zooms too much. Just because he didn’t make any remark saying something about the point doesn’t mean he didn’t understand that's what they were saying. Also, if you’re going to say someone isn't smart, you should probably make sure you used the correct your.
Storms like this are rare in Southern California. When they happen, it's usually during El Nino. It usually happens in December, January, February or March.
Be careful in the storm
Sometimes they happen in mid summer
I'm glad you asked your friend for help, and you were so humble and thankful for it, so kudos to you both!
WOW You guy's get some serious weather in the US.
We get almost 1,000 tornados a year.
Ottawa gets I say at least 5 microburst a year
All places do
That we do.
@@keepingupwlee wrong
Is this an ad for that car? Like how it can withstand all weather lol
I got to experience this at the Grand canyon once. Saw the entire weather march towards me, Thunder & lightening across miles of canyon plateau, then drop into the canyon valley, then hail like crazy. When the hail came a few of us HAD to ran intro the visitor center.
Cool vid. Good job.
You really get big storms in the US
They get bad storms everywhere
@@keepingupwlee no but it's not as bad as the US.
I live in Green Bay, WI. We don't get that crazy of weather often. Great video.
I noticed towards the end of the video that the winds blew from the opposite direction. Nice video.
R. F. D. (Which stands for Rear Force Downdraft), is what caused the wind to change directions. When a downdraft of wind comes out of a Thunderstorm, it makes contact with the Earth's surface, and spreads out in all directions, kind of like a Microburst of Precipitation. As the Thunderstorm moved away from this storm, the backside of the wind, which would've caused the wind to shift from coming in from, say, the West, passed over your area, and moved on to the East. As it did so, the part of the wind shaft that was on the rear of the wind shaft was moving from East to West. That's why you experienced the shift in the wind, as to what direction it was coming from.
My explanation is a long one, but I hope that you'll understand what I'm trying to say in my text to you.
Have a great day!
Incredible footage. Congratulations. I'm from Brazil.
that was quite awesome.. thanks for sharing.. and I hope all these years later your camera still works haha..
Call that a microburst? That's an average thunderstorm in southern Indiana
That was impressive! Good video. It's weird how the wind goes in reversal at the near end.
It's because as the strong storm it was, it has a downdraft that pushes air to every direction, not only towards where it's moving.
I recently discovered and learned about "Microburst" this week. I've watched some videos of it, but this one is so crazy and scary...
I went to school with a Ho Li Kao. He was an exchange student from Asia. I guess he's in SE Wisconsin nao. Wao!
Lmao! 😂 good one!
Put that ‘Holy cow’ on repeat and sit back.
ITS WINTER GO MAKE SNOW ANGELS
AJLEE37 cool
HAIL NO!
Lmao you go out and play! I'll watch the news later to see how it went.
The amazing thing you can see the two flags in the video waving to different directions.
When the microburst strike first you have a strong headwind then the downdraft and at the end strong tailwind.
If you take a look on the flags you can see it very clearly.
This is a very dangerous weather and weather should always have our respect to him.
Thx for sharing.
That scion just sitting there like “what storm?” 😂
That’s crazy, glad you guys are safe.
I love the silence after all that noise!
Good job on the HD... Better quality video than some peoples... :)
"Steve", considering that your camera was new to you, you managed some pretty superb work. Nice job! Now, if there were long hills in the area; with Grades exceeding 15 Per Cent; with air temps 15 Degrees F cooler--less rain mixed in; and, the hail went on for half a day or more, I'd like to experiment with some ol' beat-up "rock skis", and see just how I'd ride. I know that Hail Events are typically short-lived; it's just something to wonder about--riding on irregular big balls (Hail), instead of small crystals (Snow). That building across the way is built like a fortress, looks like it would hold up fairly well in tornadoes less than F 3.5.
Those guys can have a graupelball fight
'and the flag was still there...'
This would be a perfect video for the National Anthem.
SaltySaiyan No, no it would not be, that's corny.
SaltySaiyan I think there was one flag pole down

Oh say does that star bangle banner yet way oh the land of the free and the home of the brave
I lived in Dousman, just south of Oconomowoc when that hit us. No hail, just intense wind at 118 est and tons of down huge trees. Still have pictures.
Crazy video!! I was stuck just south of National on Moreland in my work vehicle during this. I too took some video of it, but I had way too many f bombs to post it lol very intense 2 mins...and then all was quiet! You caught this at the perfect moment!!!
That was one hail of a storm! 😅
Nice video! I was wondering how my t3i would fair with weather video. The new t4i has autofocus but you can still hear the noise of the lens focusing. Oh well. Good pic though.
We had one of these in Wichita Falls Tx on August 10th. Did a lot of damage to about 70% of the city.
Wow. That was quite intense
Yeah! Luckily, it didn't last any longer than it did. If it had, they might've been in real trouble! Those Micro-burst types of Thunderstorms are nothing to play with!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Must not have hit so hard up in Richfield because I don't remember this at all. Love the hail though....looks like snow!
A typical hailstorm will drop 100 stones a minute. I this case, it dropped over 1000 a minute
I have seen this kind of storms usually in October here in Glendale, Arizona.
Holy cow!
Wow that's pretty crazy for Wisconsin if I do say so myself.
Just read the description and the peak wind seemed to be around 40 mph
What was the name of that tropical storm? 😋
Scientific reconstruction of the weather if UK was combined with Canada.
Das Neko UK weather is not bad
I noticed the gust front wasn't strong. I also noticed in that rain and hail core the winds were powerful then went calm before shifting to the east half the speed if it was a direct hit
Micro Burst Videos ARE THE Best to me
That was insanely crazy, all that hail😯
in Italy I never seen hail storm like this!! amazing!!!
We have some huge thunderstorms. But Pulaski has its share
In Italy i saw storm like this so many times
Why dont you use the stabilization feature of youtube?
I am also in the south eastern part of the state, if you don't mind saying, what city was this in and when did it happen?
Where is this holy cow?
"Holy cow!"
Too much camera movement which started to give me a headache. Nice catch though. I feel like if you used your phone it would have come out better and trying to focus it while millions of little hail are falling wasn't working either. Still glad you got the video of it
Who gray car is that
Where are they a hotel or something?
That grey car's got the aerodynamics of a brick 😦
Moorland*
Moreland is in Waukesha.
I AM SO GLAD I WASNT IN WISCONSON THAT YEAR :D
Any dents on the cars?
i have been through that lol. in tulsa 2012. i say a group of kids and ran to them offering my apartment as shelter. they went home after it dissipated
WOAH! THATS ONE AMAZING STORM!
Near Racine?
You see that cloud and you know some serious shit is about to happen lol
that was crazy i never saw a Hailstorm that look like a Blizzard in New York
when will people start videoing proper.
Что такое SE WI
Я не знаю этой аббревиатуры.
Надо было название целиком писать
Мы ж вам не пишем Екб вместо Екатеринбурга или Спб вместо Санкт_петербурга, чтобы голову ломали над этим.....
Holy smokes and holy cow must mean something in WI. Lol
that is a shelf cloud/rollcloud
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
I've lived almost everywhere. MT, ND, SD, MN, WY, CA, TX, FL, WA, OR, NC, and WI has some of the CRAZIEST rain and lightning storms! I'd be frantic with fear for my horses because the lightning was literally like being in a war zone that was being bombed CONTINUALLY. But after every storm, I'd be out there, racing to my babies and they'd all be fine. LUCKILY! I've seen herds of horses, cattle, antelope, deer, and such killed by lightning and large hail. MT, SD, WY, and TX take the tops for tornados and MASSIVE hail. Big as softballs and they kill anything they hit! But in Tomahawk WI, it rains like the ocean is falling out of the sky! And hell was it's cheerleader! I don't get scared, but I was caught in my truck in one lightning storm and it was all thrills until 2 trees next to me got blew up! All that crap about your vehicle being grounded is quite literally CRAP! I've seen vehicles get hit too! I curled into ball on the seat and you couldn't of paid me to touch anything metal!! LMAO!!! :0
+Akerley1959 - if you haven't even been outside the US, what do you actually know? You're not even close to well-travelled, you ignoramus.
AlbertaGamer he was comparing states and their extreme weather. He never mentioned anything about international weather is not as extreme as the Us. He was just confirming that yes the Us does get some crazy weather..god people annoy me..
You mentioned that Wisconsin has some of the craziest Storms that you've ever experienced, and I believe you! I've heard a few reports, here and there, as to how crazy the Weather can be there, I believe.
When I read your comment, for some reason, I was reminded of a Comedy Movie called "The Great Outdoors", Starring Dan Ackroyd, and John Candy. Ever hear of it? It's one of the zaniest, funniest movies I've ever watched!
In that movie, there's a Character (I've forgotten his name at the moment), and this poor guy is a walking, talking Lightning Rod! This poor schmo had been struck by lightning dozens of times, and could feel a Thunderstorm coming, even before anyone else even knew that there was a Thunderstorm nearby! He'd go running to get to a safe place... only to be struck by lightning, and really...I felt very bad for him. That poor guy...you could've used him as a Human Generator!
This movie was made back in, I believe...1988. It's truly a great movie to watch. It'll pull on your heart strings one moment, and have you laughing hysterically the next! In my humble opinion, it's a must-see. I also love the parts in it, about being honest with people, and what it can be like-When you're on vacation!!! I personally give this movie a perfect score of 10 out of 10!!!
What’s se wi?
Thanks cool video! 👍
I realize it's been ten years since you made this video but I hope in that time you quit obsessing over the zoom button and auto focus feature.
How to feel seasick in three minutes, give this guy a camera.
Imagine if you remembered your car windows were open. Do you really want to go out in that to close them?
Good call on the "it'll start in about 2 mins" that was a pretty accurate guess lol :)
INCREDIBLE!
Hail, the size of soccer balls hit in Tokyo once
if you see an upper trough that looks like clouds rolling behind them...hide under cover. We had this Micro burst in East of UK, it was crazy.
No way I
Live in the UK and would love to
See this
Domolikesyoshi everyone thought it was a tornado lol it happened in august the sky was blue at first no air air...very still. 1 hr later you could see there intense cloud build and then it came out of nowhere. literally fell as light rain then came down this intense rush of water and gales. trees and rubbish going everywhere so funny but scary. hole i show you clip of it from distance in another country to help you understand its power
6 years ago today!
He is enjoying it as I would.
Why is it called a microburst? Nothing "micro" about this.
Remember the one in Stafford on February 25 2017
I never seen a hailstorm like this in wisconsin.
That's quite a storm!
New Word learned what's Microburst?
Jan Rauschütz Its this.
Toy Freddy Fazbear Description:
Jan Rauschütz Google, bing, yahoo, take your pick
***** Dude, these things make you all stupid if I wish it from a person who knows it then i dont want to hear "Search the Internet"!
+Jan Rauschütz A microburst is a mass of air that sinks and collides with the ground, bringing high winds, heavy rain and sometimes hail. They are usually caused by severe storm clouds.
Awesome day!!!
Be careful with the storm
Aaahh, no excuse. Too much panning, too much zooming in, too much blurriness. Great storm though!
That’s when you start worrying about the roof drains. Are they clean, overflows clean!
at 3:17 you can barely see
Great video but rather frightening!
Great vid!!!
Car wash...anyone? As the man keeps saying.... HOLY COW!
'Holyeee Cowww'. 'I've seen worse, I've, I've, I've'.
Hold still and move slowly with the cam, I had to turn down the speed I got dizzy lol
Oh to be sitting in one of those cars.
good indication of a microburst.
A few seconds of sideways drenching rain then the hail kicked in...
Holly crap don't think I would want to be out in that
hope everyone has full coverage lol
awesome stuff
That's insane!
Winter in the ending of winter......
Wow
Holy...cow
