  • Featured on The Weather Channel's "Weather Caught On Camera" series. Sorry for the crappy camera work in the raw footage This is the first video I ever recorded with a DSLR, so apologies for not staying wide (all the zooming was me trying to set the manual focus).
    -------------
This was recorded in New Berlin, WI @ appx 3pm on Sept. 17th, 2012. Action gets started just before the 2:00 mark; microburst peaks at 3:00, hail continues after that. This storm was severe warned, although for wind, not hail. Maximum hail size was nickel, although it felt larger being pelted by it. Pretty sure this was a microburst event given the intensity of the precipitation at 2:54-ish and the reversal of wind near the end. No damage to report thankfully, just the mounds of hail that persisted hours after the event. Don't forget to watch in 1080p. :) Before and after image gallery here: imgur.com/a/FawNc

Just because he didn’t make any remark saying something about the point doesn’t mean he didn’t understand that's what they were saying. Also, if you’re going to say someone isn't smart, you should probably make sure you used the correct your.

      R. F. D. (Which stands for Rear Force Downdraft), is what caused the wind to change directions. When a downdraft of wind comes out of a Thunderstorm, it makes contact with the Earth's surface, and spreads out in all directions, kind of like a Microburst of Precipitation. As the Thunderstorm moved away from this storm, the backside of the wind, which would've caused the wind to shift from coming in from, say, the West, passed over your area, and moved on to the East. As it did so, the part of the wind shaft that was on the rear of the wind shaft was moving from East to West. That's why you experienced the shift in the wind, as to what direction it was coming from.
My explanation is a long one, but I hope that you'll understand what I'm trying to say in my text to you.
      Have a great day!

It's because as the strong storm it was, it has a downdraft that pushes air to every direction, not only towards where it's moving.

The amazing thing you can see the two flags in the video waving to different directions.
When the microburst strike first you have a strong headwind then the downdraft and at the end strong tailwind.
If you take a look on the flags you can see it very clearly.
This is a very dangerous weather and weather should always have our respect to him.
    Thx for sharing.

"Steve", considering that your camera was new to you, you managed some pretty superb work. Nice job! Now, if there were long hills in the area; with Grades exceeding 15 Per Cent; with air temps 15 Degrees F cooler--less rain mixed in; and, the hail went on for half a day or more, I'd like to experiment with some ol' beat-up "rock skis", and see just how I'd ride. I know that Hail Events are typically short-lived; it's just something to wonder about--riding on irregular big balls (Hail), instead of small crystals (Snow). That building across the way is built like a fortress, looks like it would hold up fairly well in tornadoes less than F 3.5.

I've lived almost everywhere. MT, ND, SD, MN, WY, CA, TX, FL, WA, OR, NC, and WI has some of the CRAZIEST rain and lightning storms! I'd be frantic with fear for my horses because the lightning was literally like being in a war zone that was being bombed CONTINUALLY. But after every storm, I'd be out there, racing to my babies and they'd all be fine. LUCKILY! I've seen herds of horses, cattle, antelope, deer, and such killed by lightning and large hail. MT, SD, WY, and TX take the tops for tornados and MASSIVE hail. Big as softballs and they kill anything they hit! But in Tomahawk WI, it rains like the ocean is falling out of the sky! And hell was it's cheerleader! I don't get scared, but I was caught in my truck in one lightning storm and it was all thrills until 2 trees next to me got blew up! All that crap about your vehicle being grounded is quite literally CRAP! I've seen vehicles get hit too! I curled into ball on the seat and you couldn't of paid me to touch anything metal!! LMAO!!! :0

You mentioned that Wisconsin has some of the craziest Storms that you've ever experienced, and I believe you! I've heard a few reports, here and there, as to how crazy the Weather can be there, I believe.
When I read your comment, for some reason, I was reminded of a Comedy Movie called "The Great Outdoors", Starring Dan Ackroyd, and John Candy. Ever hear of it? It's one of the zaniest, funniest movies I've ever watched!
In that movie, there's a Character (I've forgotten his name at the moment), and this poor guy is a walking, talking Lightning Rod! This poor schmo had been struck by lightning dozens of times, and could feel a Thunderstorm coming, even before anyone else even knew that there was a Thunderstorm nearby! He'd go running to get to a safe place... only to be struck by lightning, and really...I felt very bad for him. That poor guy...you could've used him as a Human Generator!
This movie was made back in, I believe...1988. It's truly a great movie to watch. It'll pull on your heart strings one moment, and have you laughing hysterically the next! In my humble opinion, it's a must-see. I also love the parts in it, about being honest with people, and what it can be like-When you're on vacation!!! I personally give this movie a perfect score of 10 out of 10!!!
