Excellent narration and video with clear audio. And appears to have been an authentic presentation with little or no shortcuts to illustrate all the steps to install the Ford puck system. Way to go Eddie...
Great job...about to do this myself. I'm confirming you lost your normal bumper hitch wiring connection when you do this...??? I'd like to have both options for pulling. Know of any solutions if that's the case? Thx for the video...!!!
Thanks! We did not loose the bumper hitch connection. There is a “Y” on the cable from the Kit that keeps it connected. Just tested to confirm and we do have both options.
@@EddieAtLarge gotcha, I have the same setup as you, 19 w/o the puck system w/ a drop in liner. I'm debating on cutting holes in the drop in liner vs removing the liner every time I need to use the 5th wheel hitch. Awesome video though!
Thank you! I have never heard of 5th wheel hitches requiring the use of safety chains as the trailer pin is locked into the jaws for our type of hitch. I do believe they would be required for the Anderson style ball hitch that can be installed in the bed of the truck that also utilizes the 5th wheel prep package. I personally prefer the B&W hitch that we have over the Anderson style.
Aren't the flag nuts designed that way so that you don't need to put a wrench on them when torquing the bolt? The flag portion rotates up against the steel and is held in place there? Great video BTW!
You are correct, the flag nuts are designed for that purpose, however, I believe there was a reason I used the breaker bar on the other side (too long ago for me to recall 100%). I mentioned the wires in the conduit that may have been in the way meaning they may have been damaged if I would have let the flag nut turn up naturally. Sorry I can’t recall 100%. Regardless, once torqued to spec, those bolts should not move. I do believe I installed the upper flag bolts in the normal manner. Glad you enjoyed the video! 👍🏻✌🏻
Great video. But you can’t tell me you were able to put those puck trim pieces in with no tools. That was the hardest part of the whole process. However, you did save me $700 that my wife will spend on something 😂
Lol. Video doesn’t lie. No tools. It was a bit tricky though. Like I said, I had to bend them to work them in. Glad to hear this helped you and saved you some cash! Wish I could help you with your marital problems too, but, I have the same issues. 🫤
Got a quote last week to install this package from our local RV shop, they wanted 2200 in labor, 750 doesn"t sound so bad now, especially since my truck has been delayed from being built for almost a year and currently the 5th wheel package is holding it up due to covid related nonsense Thanks for making the video, really appreciate it!
Thanks so much for your video! It took three of use 10 minutes to remove the bed, 30 minutes to put the package on align it and torque it down and another 10 to reinstall the bed! I can't believe the "Quicklane" center wanted $600 to install it!
Sorry, I’m not sure. You will need to speak to your local Ford dealers parts department to ensure you order the correct one for your truck’s year, make & model if it’s available.
So there really is no way to get that big ole bracket in there with the bed on? I almost went this route instead of universal rails but I already had a 5W hitch.
@@EddieAtLarge one other thing. The wiring harness was included? My dealer seems to think it’s not. And they can’t find a price for it on its own. But all the ones I see online show it included.

So now I have to do this 😬 and they also forgot my upfitter switches too 🙄 I took it anyway just because I didn’t want to wait any longer and dealer’s were going to charge me like $10k-$15k over sticker to buy . Ford was going to farm it out to a 3rd party for the install and I just wasn't comfortable after speaking to them. Good luck with everything and congratulations on your new truck!!!
Sorry, I do not know & couldn't find them online or in the prep package instruction manual. I would recommend contacting the parts department at your local dealer. My kit did come with them, so, I would ask the dealer to see if they are included in the current kits.
I'd suggest drilling the puck holes while the bed is still on the truck. And for the plug hole in the side there is a template online you can print off.
It looks like you have a spray on bed liner after the install, but had a plastic bed liner that you took out prior to installing the prep package. Did you switch because the 5th wheel does not work with the plastic bed liner, or did you switch to a spray in liner out of preference?
@Steve Buenzow I switched because I prefer the LineX spray on liner and I am very happy with that choice. I could have cut out holes in the bedliner where the pucks are located if I wanted to make the plastic liner work. I would have also had to find a way to seal around the pucks where they meet the liner if I wanted to try to waterproof it. I think that would have been a maintenance issue though. Hope that helps answer your question!

@William Noyes The kit that I had installed on my truck is Part #HC3Z-5F057-B for my 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty. Per the Ford Accessories website, this kit has been replaced by Part No LC3Z-5F057-A for all Super Duty Trucks, including my 2019 F250. @@EddieAtLarge Thanks for the clarification. I just seen they were both being sold. Some must be old stock. Frame changes must be minimal. A most useful step by step video, Ed, considering we recently bought a 34' 5th wheel trailer, followed a few weeks later by trading in our 2015 truck for a white diesel RWD 2019 F250 with an 8' bed. So far my wife and I love the truck and the travel trailer. Our new truck is equipped with a 5th wheel hitch on above-bed rails. Only problem, our old truck had a goose neck hitch and our new trailer has a goose neck. Long story shortened a bit, I was about ready to buy the Ford prep kit, but was worried it would be a bit much for me and my wife to install at our advanced age 🤔 Having watched another of your videos I suspect I'm old enough to be your much older brother, and our wives appear to be about the same height. It might take us a few days, but we have two chain hoists attached to 4" cross beams in our car port. I'll handle the muscle work and let my wife handle the brain part. Yes, she's the one who read the instructions. I will, however, let her also deal with the lower level and cramped quarter tasks. We are both so happy to have watched your installation video. Thank you.
@Dennis Mills Congratulations on the new truck and 5th wheel Dennis! And glad to hear our video has helped inform you of what all is involved with the installation. The chain hoist sounds like it will handle the truck bed much better than the Jeep top hoist that I used. 👍🏻 Please let me know how your installation goes. Good luck!
I got a question my Ford dealer installed one on my F450 and I think they installed it wrong and I’m out of town and can’t go the the dealer to see if they did like all the holes look normal but the top right hole looks open it’s kinda hard to explain is there a way I can sent you a picture how it looks to see if yours looks the same thank you

@Richard goldberg Thanks! Took me about 8 hours, however, it always takes a lot more time on projects to set up the camera and record. I would think it would take anywhere from 4-6 hours without filming.

Your video is excellent with great detail and instructions. I installed the kit on my 2018 Ford Lariat F-350 - something I would have never tried if not for your video. The only difference in the instructions that came with the kit was the order of torquing the bolts. Thanks for making the video.
@@steveh4959 So great to hear Steve! Glad all went well with your installation and wonderful to know that my video gave you the inspiration to do it. Curious to know how you removed the bed. Did you use a hoist system or another method?
@@EddieAtLarge after watching your video I bought a one ton chain hoist and hung it in my garage then used 4 straps and hoisted it up. I will use the hoist in the future to put the fifth wheel hitch in and out of the pickup bed.
@Dustin Field I'm not really certain to be honest. I would guess around 300lbs? The hoist I used was rated for 200lbs and I would NOT recommend it! A subscriber said in a comment below that he bought a one ton chain hoist in conjunction with straps to use for his bed removal. I also found another comment by someone who said they came across the installation instructions and template for the wiring harness on this web link: www.wrenchesandrides.com/downloads/2017_super_duty_5th_wheel_trailer_tow_kit.pdf Hope that helps!
Thanks for the video. Do you know how much the entire kit weighed? I'm trying to figure out how much my payload capacity will be reduced by the installation of the kit. Thanks!
@the3mutts You are very welcome! I tried to find the weight on my original order confirmation, but, it was not there. I believe it was 80 lbs though. Very solid & heavy duty.
@@resharddurdley6987 I don’t know for certain. I was trying to remember what the shipping weight was when I said I thought it was 80 lbs. I tried looking it up and couldn’t find the info. It is very heavy though as I struggled a bit to get it up onto the frame. Great product. We have been on the road full time with our 5th wheel for 1 1/2 years and it’s been great.
@@EddieAtLarge Awesome good to here. Thank you for sharing. Last onth, I placed a order for a '22 F-350 6.7 Tremor and selected the 5th wheel prep package after debating for a while. Glad I chose the option.
Great video!! Prob one of the best I've ever seen! I just got a used 2019 F250 and plan to do this same thing. I'm fairly mechanical so I think I'll try to install on my own too. We're planning to upgrade from a travel trailer to a 5th wheel next year, so I might do this soon just get it out of the way. It doesn't look too difficult. I was curious, how long did is actually take you to complete the install?
Thank you! So glad to hear that. I'm sure you can do it being that you have some mechanical abilities. Everything takes longer when I film it. Taking that into account, I would say I would have been able to complete it in 4 to 6 hours if I would not have been filming. Best of luck and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
@@EddieAtLarge Awesome thanks for the reply. I hear ya on filming. I do lots of woodworking and stronger on my IG account. Filming can take so long lol. Happy travels!
@Patrick Bergen I took a little over 8 hours to complete everything, however, that includes taking time to set up shots for the video. I'm also a little meticulous which certainly slowed me down. I would think it would typically take around 6 hours on average. Maybe only 4 hours if you're really mechanically inclined.
@@EddieAtLarge thank appreciate that. Just bought the kit and will install in the coming weeks. Thanks for indepth video. I'll let you know how long it takes me once I'm done
@David Rosendale You’re welcome! The cover is made by Retrax model Pro MX. I do love it for our application as we rarely see snow now that we’re traveling full time. If you live in a cold climate, you may have issues with it freezing/ icing up. It has started to leak a little as well. The functionality is awesome though.
@@EddieAtLarge thanks much. I do live in PA and see some snow, but for me I am looking more for security for equipment that rides around in an already open bed. The difference would be I am not loading and unloading every night. Thanks much for the info on the liner.
@David DelMonte Good question. The jeep hard top hoist that I used was rated for max 200 lbs and I'm certain that the bed weighed much much more as I had a very hard time pulling it up with that system. The bed is 8' aluminum. I searched everywhere online to try to find the weight and could not find it. I did find a thread where a guy weighed his 8' metal bed (no tail gate) and it came in at 412 lbs. I would venture to say it may weigh between 300 lbs.to 350 lbs. Just a guess though. I would not recommend using that hoist system. I think I got lucky that it held for me. I do believe 4 guys could lift it off with no problem to avoid messing with a hoist. Hope that helps answer your question! Thanks for watching.
@Terry McBride It did come with a printed instruction manual, unfortunately, we did not bring it with us on the road (we are full time RVers). I did a search on the internet to see if I could find it online and could not locate it. The printed instructions will come in the package though when you buy direct from Ford.

@Neal Jenkins Thank you! Our bedcover is a Retrax Pro MX and it is very well built! It was quite expensive, however, it is one of the best purchases we have made. Hello Ed!! I hope you two are doing well! Great video! ...and very comprehensive. That is awesome that you have the skills to take on these kinds of projects. We are special ordering our F350. Even though I quite possibly would never have a 5th wheel, I went ahead and added the 5th wheel prep package to the order. I'd possibly use the gooseneck portion. Truck update...our 2021 F350 Godzilla arrived to the dealer in Iowa (I ordered through a former army buddy). I was banking that my boss would be doing a Des Moines trip. But, it doesn't look like he will for awhile. So, I'll have to make means to get out there myself. With my current schedule, it could be another 2 weeks before getting out there. Safe travel!!
@campingalan Good Evening Alan! Glad you liked the video. We are doing well. Currently boondocking in the Bridger-Teton National Forest with a nice window view to the Teton peaks from our dinette. Cell service isn’t great, but, oddly enough works well late at night when using the booster. You’ll have to send some pics of the new ride when you pick it up. Sounds sweet! Good idea as well on getting the option for the prep package. It’s worth the little bit of extra money when you can order it from the factory and you never know when you might change your mind on the 5th wheel. Take care and talk to you soon!
@@EddieAtLarge Hi there! Oh wow....the Tetons are incredible! There are not many places in the country where you get as large of an elevation relief from the valley floor to the mountain tops like you do in the Tetons. The Sangre de Christos on the east side of the Sand Dunes National Park do that, mainly when you view them from the east side of the range by Westcliffe or Silvercliff. Have a good one!

Long story shortened a bit, I was about ready to buy the Ford prep kit, but was worried it would be a bit much for me and my wife to install at our advanced age 🤔
Having watched another of your videos I suspect I'm old enough to be your much older brother, and our wives appear to be about the same height.
Good luck!
Keep making videos very well detailed.
@Jose Vallejo Thank you!
I got a question my Ford dealer installed one on my F450 and I think they installed it wrong and I’m out of town and can’t go the the dealer to see if they did like all the holes look normal but the top right hole looks open it’s kinda hard to explain is there a way I can sent you a picture how it looks to see if yours looks the same thank you
Sure. You could send it though our Facebook page via Facebook messenger. Here is the link to our page: facebook.com/HomieAtLarge Just click the message link when you get to the page.
Hello... how long did it actually take?
Nice job...by the way
@Richard goldberg Thanks! Took me about 8 hours, however, it always takes a lot more time on projects to set up the camera and record. I would think it would take anywhere from 4-6 hours without filming.
Would this be the same kit to use for my 2020 F350?
@Jesse Ramirez The kit that I had installed on my truck is Part #HC3Z-5F057-B for my 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty. Per the Ford Accessories website, this kit has been replaced by Part No LC3Z-5F057-A for all Super Duty Trucks, including my 2019 F250. That being said, they most likely made some minor changes to the kit and the install should be very close to the same as the kit that I installed in the video. You can order the new version kit at accessories.ford.com/vehicles/super-duty/2020.html directly from Ford and pick up at your local dealership. Note that all dealers do not have the same pricing. I saved around $90 by checking pricing for different local dealers on the Ford accessories website. Hope that helps. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
@@steveh4959 Cool. Thanks for letting me know!
VERY good video! May be doing this same project soon, you made it look EASY!
Where is the template for the electrical connection?
@Dustin Field Not sure that there is one. I made my own and explained how at 19:22 .
@@EddieAtLarge how much would you say the bed weighs
@Dustin Field I'm not really certain to be honest. I would guess around 300lbs? The hoist I used was rated for 200lbs and I would NOT recommend it! A subscriber said in a comment below that he bought a one ton chain hoist in conjunction with straps to use for his bed removal. I also found another comment by someone who said they came across the installation instructions and template for the wiring harness on this web link: www.wrenchesandrides.com/downloads/2017_super_duty_5th_wheel_trailer_tow_kit.pdf
Hope that helps!
Thank you for the video. If i only need the center hole, do i need to drill the other ones?
@Karl Roby You are very welcome! You will need to drill all 5 holes as all of the pucks will protrude up through the bed.
@@EddieAtLarge
I thought Ford factory 5th wheel prep is 165lbs. Its close to this because of the payload I see on blueovalnews and Ford tremor...
@@EddieAtLarge
Awesome good to here. Thank you for sharing. Last onth, I placed a order for a '22 F-350 6.7 Tremor and selected the 5th wheel prep package after debating for a while. Glad I chose the option.
@@resharddurdley6987 Great choice! Definitely worth it if you’re ordering new from the factory. Congratulations on your new truck!
Excellent, step by step instructions! Thanks!
@DA7Heaven Glad it was helpful!
How long did it take you?
@Patrick Bergen I took a little over 8 hours to complete everything, however, that includes taking time to set up shots for the video. I'm also a little meticulous which certainly slowed me down. I would think it would typically take around 6 hours on average. Maybe only 4 hours if you're really mechanically inclined.
@@EddieAtLarge thank appreciate that.
Just bought the kit and will install in the coming weeks. Thanks for indepth video. I'll let you know how long it takes me once I'm done
@@patrickbergen3875 Cool! Glad you liked the video! Yes, please let me know and good luck with the install.
Thanks for the video. Plan to do this in the coming weeks.
Separate topic, who made the toneau cover?
@David Rosendale You’re welcome! The cover is made by Retrax model Pro MX. I do love it for our application as we rarely see snow now that we’re traveling full time. If you live in a cold climate, you may have issues with it freezing/ icing up. It has started to leak a little as well. The functionality is awesome though.
@@EddieAtLarge thanks much.
I do live in PA and see some snow, but for me I am looking more for security for equipment that rides around in an already open bed. The difference would be I am not loading and unloading every night.
Thanks much for the info on the liner.
@David Rosendale No problem, glad to help! Definitely much more secure than your standard tonneau cover and comes with a keyed lock mechanism.
Great video - Thanks for sharing - what do you think the bed weighs
Did your kit come with printed instructions from Ford? If so, can you share them, please?
@Terry McBride It did come with a printed instruction manual, unfortunately, we did not bring it with us on the road (we are full time RVers). I did a search on the internet to see if I could find it online and could not locate it. The printed instructions will come in the package though when you buy direct from Ford.
@@EddieAtLarge I bought the kit direct from a Ford dealer and the box came unopened and intact as far as I could tell but no instructions were included.
@@terrymcbride4553 Sorry, really wish I could be of more help. I would recommend contacting the dealer to see if they can get you a copy. Or maybe contact Ford directly.
@@EddieAtLarge Yep, no worries. I'll find it somewhere. Cheers.
@@terrymcbride4553 Hey Terry, I've got some great news! I did some digging this morning and found that I did in fact bring the manual with us. I uploaded it to Google Drive. Click on this link to view the installation instruction manual for Ford Prep Package Part #HC3Z-5F057-B

Very nice job, what is the part number for the prep package
@Jason McCoy The part number for the 2017 through 2021 Ford Super Duty is LC3Z-5F057-A . Glad you enjoyed the video!
Not only are your demonstrations very good, but you're also really good at the editing! Thanks for the video. It has been extremely helpful. I haven't bought the Puck System to install yet, but when I do I'm gonna re-watch this video a couple times! Side question - Where did you find that torque wrench that could handle above 150 ft lbs?
@2305kb Thank you so much glad it was helpful! I bought the torque wrench from Summit Racing in Akron, Ohio. They do have 3 other locations in the US and you can order online as well. Best of luck with your install!
@@EddieAtLarge Thanks for the info! Take care.
Nice job 👍
@rout9291 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
When can I visit so you can help me install LOL!
Well, we are currently traveling through Utah and headed toward Wyoming. You may have to chase us down the road... 🤣
Great job and excellent details! May I ask what brand roll up bed cover you have? I like the look and it appears to be solidly built. Thanks!
@Neal Jenkins Thank you! Our bedcover is a Retrax Pro MX and it is very well built! It was quite expensive, however, it is one of the best purchases we have made. We've had it for over a year now and absolutely love it. I also installed it myself and it was relatively easy to do. We purchased it from etrailer.com Feel free to let us know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!
GREAT video! Subscribed to your channel to get you a little bit closer to that 1000 subscribers mark.
