  • The first sub 52 minute run! I am fairly confident that this is the last "minute milestone" until new strats or skips are found.
    Sorry about the black gap in the bottom of the video. There was supposed to be an input viewer but I completely forgot to turn it on before doing runs. My bad!
    The run was livestreamed on Twitch. If you want to check out my channel there, it is called DistroTV.
    Time without loads is 51m58s.
    Time with loads is 52m43s.
    Update August 2023:
    Retimed under the new timing rules: 52m33s.

    The way you completely glide through every level that I dreaded and feared so much as a child is very impressive! I can't believe I didn't know any of those tactics to skip certain parts 😮 congrats on the below 52m run! 🎉🎉

      I just saw this and perhaps I am a bit late with this reply but it was below 52 minutes when the video was released as @je4nz correctly pointed out. It is 52m33s now because the timing rules changed. Back then, the quicksaves and quickloads were removed from the official time but we found out that there is a massive flaw with that system and that doing more quicksaves would actually save time, which is obviously unintentional. That is why we changed the timing rules so only the level load times are removed.

    I watched the whole run its amazing!!! I was playing this in last year i mean 2022 and it was a little hard, there are too many moving parts
    but great game and i came to your 30 minute mark in 1 year. Maybe i get back and finish it.
    Graphics absolutely look great and people must have surprised playing Splinter Cell in 2003.
    This game lets you do stuff like this 49:06 !!!
    Gameplay is too sandboxy even the game is linear. So I usually cant find where to go which pipe to jump. for example oil rig level intro is impossible for me. And I think I was playing on easiest still than this game is hard. anyway great run, it was fun you do acrobatics,
    its amazing not many game come like this, it was like watching an action movie, no scripted stuff.

      I am glad you enjoyed the run!
      Yes, the graphics back then were stunning on Xbox. This run was actually done on minimum graphics on PC and the lighting looks better on Xbox I think. It still looks really good, though.
      The first Splinter Cell game is seriously difficult, so don't feel bad. Speedrunning it actually makes it easier in a lot of ways. I struggled on my first playthrough as well. And perhaps it helps you to know that the hard difficulty only changes the amount of damage you take and med kits give you less health back. The enemies behave in the same exact way on any difficulty.
      Thank you for watching the whole thing! :)

    That is one helluva German jumpscare when Lambert first speaks, I didn't pay attention to the menu being in a different language. Pretty funny also that there's no alternative for Sam getting hurt, it's still Michael Ironside.

    • @DistroGaming
      @DistroGaming  Месяц назад +3

      I apologize for the German jumpscare. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to pay for the therapy. On a more serious note, German is the fastest language in the speedrun. It saves around 12 seconds over English if I remember correctly.

    • @UltimaKeyMaster
      @UltimaKeyMaster Месяц назад

      @@DistroGaming I figured that's why the language was picked. That's usually why lots of games, at least text-box-heavy games are run with JP.
      It's cool to hear other voice actors, at least.

    Nicely played but there's nobody that speedruns Splinter Cell games like CotySA M. though. He was the first one who speedran all the first 3 Splinter Cell games and he did it in such a flow. I can bet if he were active on his channel now and decided to score a World Record (WR) in speedruns, he would beat everyone. Dude didn't do the speedruns for making WRs as there was no competition back then. He did it purely out of fun.

    • @DistroGaming
      @DistroGaming  12 дней назад +2

      Thanks for your comment!
      I have a lot to say about this, so let's get started!
      Coty's runs on YT are segmented. This is a really important distinction to make. He grinded out segments to perfection and then edited them together. This is not comparable to what I do, which is single segment. No editing together. I run the game from beginning to the end. This is an essential distinction.
      A LOT of people could beat me IF they put in the time and effort. I don't claim to be some kind of god. However, the "whataboutism" line of argumentation is just unnecessary. I know Coty. He knows me. We talk to each other from time to time and respect each other a lot. The last time I talked to him was literally a couple days ago. Coty is an absolute legend who I respect a lot and who found a lot of the strategies we still use today. My accomplishments don't diminish his just like his don't diminish mine. Knowing Coty, I can assure you that he would agree with me on this.
      I do the speedruns because they are fun. It's not even about the competition. I do this for myself. At the time when I set this specific world record, I was literally minutes ahead of the 2nd place. My motivation clearly wasn't the competition. There was no one even close to this kind of time after all. This isn't supposed to be a brag or anything either, just factual information to make my point clear.
      All of this being said, I respect your opinion and it is completely fine if you put Coty on a pedestal and try to diminish others' accomplishments as a consequence but it is worth noting that I see speedrunning as a community effort. A lot of people found many different strats and we just try to make the games go as fast as possible. This isn't even about me as a person. I am a complete nobody in the grand scheme of things and I'm perfectly fine with that. I hope you understand that fanboyism isn't something you should put too much time into. After all we're all just friends in the Splinter Cell speedrunning community and do our best to make the games go fast.
      Thanks for reading this. Have a nice day! :)
