I think that last line of dialogue of Negan saying "Carl didn't know a damn thing" really is what put the final nail for Ricks decisions to save him and keep him alive.
The fact that season 7 and 8 were so bad even though Negan is *literally* the best villain of all, probably because he killed Glenn and Abraham, "no exceptions" "back to it" he killed Glenn which was illegal but f*ck that hes the big bad wolf and there aint no plot armor in 7x1, he literallly broke Rick, he caused fear instead of anger which is literally what Rick felt to the TWD villains (except for CW and Whisperers ofc) except for Negan he was genuinely scared of him. Unlike Governor, Negan could've killed Rick and everyone in his group if he wished. Like bro Do you not realise how much it took jus tto take down Negan, it took them 3 communities, 2 seasons, some side quests to take down like 1/10 of his army (literally the cause of Negan to come to Rick) Negan is the best villain and you can't like him more the fact he was a gamer before the apocolypse.
